Andhra techie’s murderers held in the US

Washington, June 21: Five men have been arrested for allegedly robbing and killing an Indian techie from Andhra Pradesh in the US, the Telugu Association of North America (TANA) said.

A native of Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh, Venkata Subba Reddy Cuttamanchi, 35, was allegedly shot dead in a motel in Southfield near Detroit Wednesday by the boyfriend of a Mexican woman where he had gone for an internet date, TANA said.

Police was informed by people who witnessed the shooting at 2.00 a.m.

‘100 superannuated men are still on TTD rolls’

Hyderabad, June 20: A Member of the TTD Trust Board, V. Vijaya Sai Reddy, today moved the High Court questioning the continuance of people aged over 60 years in the service of the Devasthanams. Complaining that there were at least 100 such persons on rolls, he specifically cited the case of ‘Dollar’ Seshadri and said that he was being continued in contravention of the court’s orders.

1.92-kg ornaments stolen from bus

Hyderabad, June 20: Two employees of a Mumbai-based gold company lodged a complaint with the Afzalgunj police stating that a bag containing 1.92 kg gold ornaments was stolen from the bus during their travel to the city from Kurnool today.

The two persons, Dinesh Kumar Suthar and Jitender Kumar Mewara, are the employees of a Mumbai-based Sagar gold company that makes gold ornaments. Dinesh and Jitender, residents of MG Road in Secunderabad take orders for gold jewellery from jewellery shops in the state.

New multi-role fighter aircraft for IAF

Hyderabad, June 20: Minister of State for Defence M.M. Pallam Raju has said that 126 multi-role combat aircraft, the latest fighter aircraft, are being inducted into the Indian Air Force (IAF).

Speaking to media persons after reviewing the Combined Graduation Parade at the Air Force Academy at Dundigal here on Saturday, the Minister said trials by the fleet were over and vendors who qualified in the evaluation process would be invited to submit financial proposals.

Task Force constituted to ensure Sambhavi’s enrolment in school

Kurnool, June 20: Kurnool district Collector Ramshankar Naik on Saturday constituted a Task Force to ensure that the Sambhavi, the girl claimed to be bestowed with supernatural powers, be enrolled in school.

The Task Force will be headed by District Education Officer M Ramalingam.

The need to appoint a Task Force to enrol a seven-year-old girl arose when the State Human Rights Commission ordered the authorities to ensure that the girl gets proper education.

Andhra engineer shot dead in Detroit

Washington, June 20: A software engineer from Andhra Pradesh was robbed and shot dead by a group of five people in a motel near Detroit, where he had gone to meet a Mexican woman.

The victim has been identified as Cuttamanchi Venkata Subba Reddy, 35, hailing from Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh. Venkat Reddy was shot dead by a group of people in Southfield near Detroit on Wednesday around 2:00 a.m., the Telugu Association of North America said.

The police have arrested all the five individuals, including the boyfriend of the woman, who were involved in his killing.

AP Cabinet criticises Congress seniors from Telangana

Hyderabad, June 19: Several Ministers denounced the action of a group of senior Congress leaders from Telangana in levelling ‘baseless’ allegations of corruption in Jalayagnam and demanding changes in the design of Polavaram project.

The utterances of Palvai Govardhan Reddy and others dominated the Andhra Pradesh Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister K. Rosaiah here on Friday. FIVE-YEAR OLD CHILD RAPED

Chittoor, June 19: A five-year-old girl child was sexually assaulted in the town on Saturday.

According to police, one Amir Pasha raped the girl living in Nakkabanda colony. He was taken into custody by the police. (NSS)

One held for selling train tickets in black

Medak, June 18: Railway vigilance officials conducted raids on the Sangareddy Railway Reservation office on Friday morning and took into custody an employee.

The employee, identified as one Ramesh, was reportedly held for selling train tickets in black.

The raid was conducted by Secunderabad railway vigilances officials after complaints of ‘Tatkal’ tickets being black-marketed were received by commuters.

Fire ravages through 100 huts, 1 killed

Srikakulam, June 18: A young woman lost her life when fire ravaged about 100 huts, turning them to ashes on late Thursday night at Penasam village, G Sigadam mandal of Srikakulam district.

The victim is identified as 19-year-old Pidugu Adilakshmi.

The fire is believed to have started when Adilakshmi accidently knocked down a kerosene lamp while cooking. The lamp fell on the can of kerosene which spread the flames rapidly.

Adilakshmi could not escape from the spreading flames and she became victim to the inferno.

88 school buses seized

Vijayawada, June 18: Road Transport Officer, here today, seized 88 school buses which were unfit to run.

Road Transport Officer Chitti Babu told UNI that it was found that some of the school buses were being run without good condition of brakes.

It was also found that some of the drivers of the schools buses did not have licenses which was reflecting the indifferent attitude of the school managements in running their school buses, he said.

TTD forest workers demand better deal

Tirupati, June 18: TTD forest workers under the banner of CITU took out a massive rally from Anna Rao Circle to Alipiri today demanding solution to their long pending problems. Later, they staged a dharna.

CITU district vice president Murali alleged that the TTD was not sincere in implementing the resolution adopted by the trust board on reinstatement of ousted forest workers.

He said the CITU would intensify its agitation if the TTD failed to consider the report of the subcommittee appointed by it on the forest workers’ problems at the trust board meeting scheduled for tomorrow.

Plea for ban on course in Vaastu

Hyderabad, June 14: Protesting against the teaching of Vaastu, astrology and `muhurtam’ courses at the Sri Potti Sri Ramulu Telugu University, Jana Vignana Vedika has demanded that the state government ban the courses “which encourage superstition in students’’.

Girijans fear loss of tribal status

Hyderabad, June 14: The conference of tribals in the State held under the aegis of the Girijana Aikya Vedika has urged the Government to address the problem of migration to towns.

A memorandum to this effect was submitted to the Chief Minister. The meet adopted other resolutions as well on tribal problems and sought their amelioration.

Aikya Vedika president and Rajya Sabha member T Rathnabai and general secretary of the organisation K Vivek Naik stated in a press release here today that representatives from 35 sub-tribes participated in the conference.

TTD sends 51 special appointees home

Tirumala, June 14: The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has sent 51 special appointees, including P Seshadri aka Dollar Seshadri, PVRK Prasad, Kamisetty Srinivasulu, Samudrala Lakshmaiah, Anantha Padmanabham and Venkata Sharma, home.

TTD executive officer IYR Krishna Rao issued an order to this effect today. Many of them worked for over a decade in the TTD after their retirement.

AIKS plea on minimum support price

Hyderabad, June 14: The All India Kisan Sabha, affiliated to the CPI, has expressed serious concern at and disapproval of the declaration of minimum support prices by the Centre for the important agricultural produces for the coming period.

The MSP announced for the paddy, groundnut, sunflower and other produce were insufficient and not based on growing input costs prevailing in the market, said AIKS national president CK Chandrappan.

Speaking to reporters here today, he demanded that the Centre should reconsider the MSP once again.

12 irrigation projects are ready but useless

Hyderabad, June 14: Twelve irrigation projects have been completed under the state government’s ambitious Jalayagnam programme but they are not serving any purpose as it will take at least another three four years for these projects to become fully operational.

According to the officials, 12 of the total 86 projects under Jalayagnam are completed and 20 other projects are partially completed `creating irrigation potential’ for 18.47 lakh acres. The irrigation potential was created for 3,20,633 acres with an expenditure of Rs. 1,389.76 crores on completing these projects.
