Hyderabad, July 31: Festive atmosphere prevailed on the Osmania University campus today with the victory of TRS and BJP candidates in the byelections. The Osmania University Students Joint Action Committee (OUJAC) termed the victory as a clear mandate by the people of the region for a separate Telangana. “It is a victory of students and also of those martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the cause of separate statehood,” OUJAC said.

Andhra leaders too plan similar renunciation

Hyderabad, July 31: Claiming the byelection outcome in Telangana region as based on sympathy to MLAs, who resigned and caused elections and not Telangana sentiment, the Andhra Joint Action Committee (JAC) is mulling the option of doing a similar showdown in Andhra and Rayalaseema.

“We see that around 20 MLAs from Andhra and Rayalaseema resign and cause elections in the next six months. We see to it that all the resigned MLAs get re-elected and our United Andhra slogan be strengthened,’’ Andhra JAC convenor Prof M Samuel told Express.

TDP loses deposits in seven constituencies

Hyderabad, July 31: The Telangana voter has given his verdict: He will not settle for anything less than Telangana. In the by-elections to the 12 Assembly seats in five Telangana districts, the voters gave a resounding victory to the TRS candidates in 11 seats and to the BJP candidate Y Lakshminarayana in Nizamabad Urban, demonstrating their commitment to the Telangana cause.

Siddipet: Congress, TD candidates lose deposits

Sangareddy, July 31: It was once bitten thrice shy for the Congress in Siddipet Assembly segment where the party lost its deposit for the third successive term. For TDP candidate and popular comedian P Babumohan, this was the lowest number of votes that he secured since his entry into active politics. He could get about 5000 votes.

From the beginning voters in Siddipet always stood by the family members of TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao. Chandrasekhar Rao won from here from 1985 to 1999 as TDP candidate.

In 2001 he won the bypolls on TRS ticket.

Govt committed to solve students’ problems: CM

We Will Pick Up In 2014: Lagadapati

Hyderabad, July 31: The Congress MP from Vijayawada, Mr Lagadapati Rajagopal, has said that the party would pick up in the 2014 general elections.

Talking to the media here on Friday, Mr Lagadapati said that despite the defeat in the by elections in Telangana region, the Congress party remained strong in the State. He, however, admitted that the results had caused pain to the party leadership.

Babus behind Bholakpur tragedy ‘bailed’ out

Hyderabad, July 30: The Hyderabad City Police on Thursday arrested five officials of the Hyderabad Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board holding them responsible for the supply of contaminated water, more than a year after it claimed the lives of 13 people in Bholakpur. All the accused were released on bail minutes after their arrest.

The arrested were Chief General Manager (Narayanguda division) P Manohar Babu, Deputy General Manager Rajasekhara Reddy, Deputy Manager Praveen Kumar, grade-1 technician Uma Maheshwar Raju and lineman David Raju.

Amani’s kin sent to judicial custody

Nellore, July 30: Film actress Amani’s brother Srinivas, his second wife Devikala and mother who were arrested in a dowry harassment case, were remanded in judicial custody for 14 days when they were produced in court today.

Amani, who is also an accused in the case, is still at large.

T Polls: KCR’s nephew breaks YSR’s record

Hyderabad, July 30: While the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) is thrashing Congress in Telangana by-polls, the nephew of TRS chief K Chandrasekhara Rao, T Harish Rao, has broken a record held by late Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy with his impressive victory in Siddipet assembly seat.

The TRS leader retained his seat in Siddipet with a vote margin of 95,858 votes, which breaks the record of former CM YSR.

AP bypolls: Congress loses from Nizamabad Urban constituency

Hyderabad, July 30: In a major setback to the ruling Congress in Andhra Pradesh, the party’s state unit president D Srinivas lost the bye-election from Nizamabad Urban Assembly constituency today.

BJP candidate Y Laksmi Narayana defeated Srinivas by a margin of 12,000 votes. Earlier in the 2009 Assembly elections, Srinivas had lost from the Nizamabad Urban constituency to Lakshmi Narayana.

The bypoll in Nizamabad, alongwith 11 other constituency in Telangana region, was necessitated as the sitting MLAs had quit their posts in support of separate Telangana statehood demand.

AP bypolls: TRS wins five seats, leading in six

Hyderabad, July 30: Riding on the Telangana sentiment, Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) swept the assembly by-elections in the region, winning five seats and leading in six other constituencies Friday. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is ahead in the remaining one seat.

Proving that the Telangana sentiment is still strong, TRS retained Siddipet, Sirpur, Dharmapuri and Chennur seats with huge majority and wrested Vemulawada seat from Telugu Desam Party (TDP).

Hyderabad, July 30: The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) is leading in 11 constituencies and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in one as the counting of votes in the by-elections to 12 assembly seats in Andhra Pradesh’s Telangana region began Friday morning.

Early trends show the two parties may retain their seats while the TRS has also established lead in one constituency held by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP).

Dowry harassment case against Amani

Nellore, July 29 Police are said to be looking for actress Amani who has been named in a dowry harassment case filed by her sister-in-law. Her brother Srinivas was reportedly arrested by the Nellore police along with his mother and second wife on Wednesday evening.

Amani’s sister-in-law, Leelavathi left her marital home and returned to her parents’ yesterday and filed a dowry harassment case against Srinivas, her husband of 13 years, alleging relentless harassment.

EC pulls up TRS chief for remarks against AP Minister

Hyderabad, July 29: The Election Commission today expressed strong displeasure over the alleged comments made by TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao against Andhra Pradesh Home Minister P Sabita Reddy and other leaders during the campaign for by-elections to 12 Assembly seats in Telangana.

All set for vote counting in Telangana by-polls

Hyderabad, July 29: Counting of votes in the by-elections to 12 assembly seats in Andhra Pradesh’s Telangana region will be taken up Friday.

The state’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) I.V. Subba Rao said all arrangements were made for counting of votes, which will start 8 a.m. The first result is expected by 11 am.

Since polling in five of the 12 constituencies were held through ballot papers, the last result is expected by 6 p.m. The results from seven constituencies, where electronic voting machines (EVMs) were used, are likely to be announced in the initial two to three hours.

PRP walks out of Srikrishna panels hearing

Kakinada, July 28: Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) representatives, led by its District President Jyothula Nehru, today staged a walk out from the public hearing held by Srikrishna panel at the Vidhana Gouthami Hall at the Collectorate here, protesting against the meagre time allotted to them to voice their views on Telangana issue.

The member secretary of the committee Mr V K Duggal expressed his inability to give more time to a single organisation and wanted them to give their views in writing or come over to Hyderabad

Srikrishna Committee visits East Godavari district

Rajahmundry, July 28: The Justice B N Srikrishna Committee would submit its report keeping in view the best interests of the people of Andhra Pradesh, a panel member said today.The Centre-appointed panel on the Telangana issue will keep the interests of the people of the state in mind while finalising its report, V K Duggal, Member-Secretary of the Committee, said here.

No names missing from voter lists: CEO

Hyderabad, July 28: Chief Electoral Officer IV Subba Rao on Tuesday denied charges by some political parties that the names of some voters were missing from the voters’ lists in Nizamabad Urban Assembly constituency.

Talking to media persons at his Chambers in the Secretariat, Dr Subba Rao said that all contestants were shown the voters’ list on five separate occasions and they had raised no objects at any time.

He said that a ‘protest’ by some persons believed to be affiliated to some political parties that their names were missing from the voters’ list was baseless.

CEO Defends Stoppage Of News Telecasts In Nizamabad

Hyderabad, July 27: The Chief Electoral Officer, Dr I V Subba Rao, on Tuesday clarified that the District Magistrate (Collector) and Sub-Judicial Magistrate (RDO) have powers to stop telecasts of News Channels, if they air content against the Cable Act. He also backed the decision of the Nizamabad RDO for stoppage of News Channels telecasting in Nizamabad.

CI With Illicit Affair Escapes From Village

Nalgonda, July 27: A police circle inspector, who had an extra-marital affair with a woman, ran away after the villagers locked him up in a house, in Taskanigudem village under Chundur mandal on Monday.

According to the information, Lakshman Naik, the police officer, was in the house of the woman with whom he had illicit affair, when the villagers caught him. The angry villagers locked him up in the house and complained the matter to the SP.

The officer, however, ran away from the back door, by the time police arrived there. He is absconding since then.

BJP alleges govt officials biased against T-parties

Hyderabad, July 27: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader on Monday met Chief Electoral Officer IV Subba Rao and complained to him that government employees in Nizamabad Urban Assembly constituency were showing undue favour towards one particular political party.

After submitting a memorandum to the CEO, Mr Vidyasagar Rao alleged that the government officials in general and the Revenue Divisional Officer in the district was acting in a biased manner against pro-Telangana parties.

AP for provision of seed prices’ regulation in Bill

Hyderabad, July 26: The Andhra Pradesh government today requested the Centre to incorporate provisions for regulation of seed prices and royalty in the Central Seed Bill, which is expected to be passed in Parliament in the current monsoon session.

Appreciating the Centre’s initiative in moving the Seed Bill, state Agriculture Minister N Raghuveera Reddy said that regulation of sale price has become essential with several international players entering the Indian market.

Online counselling going on smoothly

Vijayawada, July 26: The online counselling of EAMCET medical stream started at NTR University of Healthy Sciences and three other centres in the State, including Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam and Tirupati today.

Eleventh rank holder Jakkala Srilakshmi Surya Tejaswini of Mandapeta in East Godavari district was the first candidate to enter the counselling hall. She opted for an MBBS seat in Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad.

Top rankers, including 32, 37, 38, 44, 47, 48 and 49 attended counselling here.
