Teacher found with assets worth Rs 1 crore

Karimnagar, October 12: A government school teacher of the assistant cadre, J Ravinder Rao, was arrested by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths at Jagtial today for owning disproportionate assets. Assets with a registered value of Rs 1 crore were seized from him but their actual market value would be about Rs 4 crore, ACB DSP Jaipal told Express.

CPI leader tells MFI borrowers not to repay loan

Hyderabad, October 12: Warning of an impending financial distress in the rural areas of the state due to harassment of small borrowers by microfinance companies, CPI state secretary K Narayana on Monday advised them not to repay loans to the companies.

He said the state government has been remaining silent on the issue and urged it to initiate stringent action against the companies. Meanwhile reports continued to come from several parts of the state of microfinance borrowers buckling under the burden of repaying loans to microfinance companies.

Former Naxalite held for threatening businessman

Hyderabad, October 12: Police today nabbed a former Naxalite who joined hands with self-styled commander of Revolutionary Patriotic Tigers chief Patolla Goverdhan Reddy and threatened a businessman in a land dispute.

Neelam Mallesh alias Sagar alias Pandu alias Ramdas, is a former member of the erstwhile People’s War group (PWG) Giraipally dalam member. He hails from Dhammakpalli village in Medak district.

In 1996, he joined the Giraipally dalam of the PWG and later worked in Narsapur and Ummadidala dalams.

Faction attack leaves TD man dead

Anantapur, October 12: Faction feuds flared up once again in the district with rivals attacking two Telugu Desam leaders in broad daylight near the busy Srikantam Circle here this evening.

Of the two, one died on the spot and the other is battling for life in the government hospital. The victims were identified as Raghunath Reddy (45) of Reddipalle vilage in Peddapappur mandal in Tadipatri Assembly constituency and Chandrasekhara Reddy (43) of Seetharamapuram village in Tadipatri Rural mandal in the same constituency. Both were close followers of Tadipatri TDP leader Peram Nagireddy.

‘Humiliated’ man kills wife, self

Kadapa, October 12: Allegedly feeling humiliated over the scolding by his family elders for a domestic spat with his newly-married wife, a 23-year-old youth slit his wife’s throat and committed suicide under Koduru police station limits in the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.

According to Inspector Surya Narayana, Kondaiah had got married to Anuradha (16) 45 days ago and was residing in KS Agraharam, Chitvel Mandal in Kadapa district.

Women attack microfin offices in Karimnagar

Karimnagar, October 11: Tension prevailed for sometime at Jyotinagar here today when over a hundred CPI women functionaries led by district unit secretary M Venkataswamy attacked two microfinance company offices alleging that they had been harassing women’s group members for repayment of loans. Hyderabad, October 11: Gadar’s Telangana People’s Front (TPF) has clearly rattled TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao. After announcing in Warangal that he might launch another fast unto death after December 31, he has gone into an overdrive.

His thrust, going by his own statements, is going to be on bringing a Dalit and minority dimension to the TRS to weather the storm being kicked up by Gadar. Since TPF focus is on giving primacy to Dalits, Chandrasekhar Rao appears to have decided to use the same card to fill the vacuum in his own party and pre-empt a possible Gadar impact.

Jagan’s yatra likely to reach Nellore on Oct 13

Nellore, October 11: Congress MP Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy’s ‘Odarpu yatra’ is likely to reach Nellore district on October 13.

As per initial plans, the yatra was supposed to reach the district tomorrow. However, it was postponed by two days as the ongoing yatra in Prakasam district has been extended to several other villages, Congress MLA in Nellore M Chandrasekhar Reddy said.

Chandrasekhar, his brother and Nellore MP M Rajamohan Reddy have come out openly in support of Jagan’s yatra.

Meanwhile, Jagan’s yatra continued in Prakasam district today.

70,000 devotees have darshan

Vijayawada, October 11: Indrakeeladri, the abode of Goddess Kanakadurga, witnessed a heavy devotee rush today. Speaking to Express, Kanakadurga temple executive officer N Vijay Kumar said 70,000 devotees had darshan on the first day of Devi Navaratri festival. On the second day, the number of devotees visited the temple came down to 40,000. About 70,000 devotees had darshan of the Goddess till 6 pm on Sunday. The number is likely to cross one lakh by midnight. The sale of Laddu and Pulihora prasadam also increased.

CM seeks report on botched eye surgeries

Hyderabad, October 11 : Fourtee n labourers of Gogulapadu village of Gurajala mandal, who underwent eye operations at an eye camp in Hyderabad, have developed infection and five of them face the risk of losing sight. The surgeries were performed at the Rangareddy Lions Eye Hospital near Gandhi hospital in July.

Following a complaint by Gurajala MLA Y Srinivasa Rao, chief minister K Rosaiah sought a report on the matter from the district administration besides ordering that necessary treatment should be provided to the victims either at Guntur or Hyderabad.

TPF steering committee meet on Oct 14

Hyderabad, October 11: The Telangana Praja Front (TPF) steering committee meeting to be held on October 14 will discuss the resolutions adopted by TPF yesterday. Apart from this, the meet will also take some crucial decisions on future course of action, TPF president Gadar said.

In a press release issued here on Sunday, he said the meeting will be organised at Oxford Grammar School in Himayat Nagar.

The steering committee meet will begin at 10 a.m. at the venue. All the members and district committee members will participate in the discussions, he said.

Call for abolition of death penalty

TDP leader, relative attacked in Eluru

Eluru, October 11: A Telugu Desam Party leader and his relative were left battling for their lives in hospital in an attack by unidentified persons which took place on the National Highway No 5 near Eluru in West Godavari district early on Sunday.

The East Godavari Telugu Desam ST Cell president Nakka Satyanarayana and his brother-in-law Yeddla Raju were on their way to Hyderabad when the attack took place.

According to eyewitnesses, the car was stopped on the Highway and before the victims could realise what was happening, the assailants forced the car doors open and dragged them out.

Missing forex employee found dead, Rs 5 lakh stolen

Nalgonda, October 11: The body of a man from Hyderabad, who had been missing since the past three days, along with Rs 5 lakh in cash, was found at Chikati Mamidi, Bommala Ramaram mandal in Nalgoda district.

According to Sub-Inspection Narasimha Raju, the victim, Chaitanya (32), was an employee of Central Foreign Exchange in Somajiguda and was resident of Old-Bowenpally in Hyderabad.

Chaitanya had left home for office on October 6. He did not however turn up at the office. His worried parents had lodged a complaint with the Bowenpally police after waiting for him later that day.
