Bar panel to probe charges against CP

Vijayawada, January 06: The Bezawada Bar Association Human Rights Committee has decided to set up a committee to probe allegations against city police commissioner PSR Anjaneyulu. A decision to this effect was taken by Bar Association president Chalasani Ajay Kumar. It was alleged that the police commissioner had not only sent SMSes to some women but also made innumerable phone calls to them seeking sexual favours.

Political parties appeal for calm in Andhra

New Delhi, January 06: Four political parties, which attended a meeting convened by the Centre to hand over the report on Telangana by Justice Srikrishna committee, on Thursday issued a joint appeal to the people of Andhra Pradesh to maintain peace and harmony.

The “joint appeal” issued after the meeting also said the parties have agreed to the suggestion of Home Minister P Chidamabaram that they will meet again later this month after discussing the report within their respective parties.

Minister’s son helps suspect get gun licence

Khammam, January 05: Investigation into the murder of factionist Maddelachervu Suryanarayana Reddy has unearthed a surprise link between the prime suspect, Bhanu Kiran and Khammam district.

According to police, Bhanu, a trusted aide of Suri, had applied for a pistol licence from Wyra in Khammam district on September 26, 2006 and got a licence for 0.32 pistol on November 23, 2006 despite he not being a resident of Wyra.

Bhanu mentioned his address in the application for the licence as Bhanu, son of Damodhar Rao, 5TH ward, Wyra town.

165 NDA MPs will back T Bill: Gadkari

Adilabad, January 05: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Nitin Gadkari today reiterated that 165 NDA MPs would support the T Bill if the UPA introduced it in Parliament.

Speaking at ‘Telangana Poru’, the public meeting organised by the state BJP here, Gadkari said if the Union government tried to suppress the Telangana agitation, the NDA would stall the Parliament.

Body of Suri taken to his native vilage

Anantapur, January 05: Body of Maddelacheruvu Suri, who was murdered yesterday, was brought to his native village Maddelacheruvu in Kanaganipalle mandal today evening.

The funeral will be held tomorrow. Suri will be cremated near his parents graves.

Suri’s widow Bhanumathi and his son Vishnuvardhan Reddy along with their relatives accompanied the body from Hyderabad.

People from CK Palle, Ramagiri and Kanaganipalle came in large numbers to Maddelachervu to pay their last respects to Suri.

Congress to keep its Telangana flock together

Hyderabad, January 05: The Congress MPs from Telangana have been summoned by the party high command to be around in Delhi tomorrow, ahead of the allparty meeting convened by Union home minister P Chidambaram on Jan 6.

Party senior leader and Union minister Pranab Mukherjee will confer with them tomorrow at 3 p.m. They are expected to be advised against embarrassing the party with agitations if the Srikrishna Committee verdict goes against formation of a separate Telangana state. Already, some MPs left for Delhi and others are leaving tomorrow morning.

Corrupt official dismissed

Hyderabad, January 05: MK Ismail, a mandal revenue inspector at the office of the tahasildar, Yammiganur in Kurnool district was dismissed from service by the principal secretary to government (Revenue) following his conviction by the additional special judge for SPE and ACE cases for accepting a bribe.

He was trapped in June 2007 while he was accepting a bribe of `3,000 from a complainant for doing an official favour.

Killer shivered before firing fatal shot

Hyderabad, January 05: The man, who shot dead faction leader Maddelacheruvu Suri, is believed to have shivered as he opened fire, a team of forensic experts at the Osmania General Hospital have concluded. The evidence: two bullets extracted from Suri’s body had a gap of eight inches between them.

‘’Two bullets were recovered — one from the cerebellum and the other from the right ear bone. The gap between the two was eight inches.

Hyderabad, January 05: Factionist Maddelacheruvu Suri’s murder could well be a preplanned covert operation. Investigators believe prime suspect, Bhanu Kiran, was lured by a group of people, over the past one year, to eliminate Suri for a variety of reasons.

Sources associated with the investigation told Express that ever since Suri came out of jail about a year ago, he had made several enemies, mostly in land disputes and due to his involvement in tenders’ process.

CWC gives technical clearance for Polavaram

Telangana: Srikrishna panel gives 6 options

New Delhi, January 05: The Justice Srikrishna Committee is understood to have recommended six options to deal with the Telangana statehood demand on which the government may take a call in about six weeks.

Sources also said the government would like to take a decision on the recommendations of the panel possibly before the Budget Session of Parliament starting February-end.

AP Cong. leaders meet Pranab on Telangana issue

New Delhi, January 05: Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday told Congress leaders from Andhra Pradesh that a meeting on Thursday on Telangana was just to hand over Justice Srikrishna Committee report to political parties and that they will get some time to give their opinion on the issue.

A day before the meeting convened by Home Minister P Chidambaram, regional differences in the ruling party persisted with MP K.Sambasiva Rao and MLA Uttam Kumar Reddy, who hail from coastal Andhra and Telangana regions respectively, meeting Mr. Mukherjee separately.

Huge cache of ammunition recovered in AP

Srikakulam, January 05: District Police Superintendent Sanjay Kumar Jain congratulated the efforts made by special police party in unearthing huge dump of explosives and grenades in the district.

According to the a police press release here yesterday the officials confirmed the district to be peaceful after the recovery.

The dump included 40 grenades, eight treasure mines, 52 safety lever pin grenades, Maoist literature and 10 pairs of Maoists’ uniforms.

Main suspect in Suri Murder Case at large: DGP

Vijayawada January 05: Security beefed up for Palace on Wheels Director General of Police K Aravinda Rao today said Bhanu Kiran, the main suspect in the sensationl murder of Factionist G Suryanarayana Reddy alias Suri, is absconding and the police is investigating the case in all aspects.

Talking to reporters here, the DGP said the police were also investigating car driver Madanamohan Reddy’s version on the case.

Maoist dump found in agriculture field

Srikakulam, January 5: A Maoist dump was found while a farmer was ploughing his field in Bharanikota village under Meliyaputti mandal of this district on Tuesday.

The shocked farmer informed the police, who dug up the field to take out the dump. They found 40 grenades, eight pressure mines, nine gas sticks, 52 grenade safety levers, uniforms, revolutionary literature and banners.

The police have shifted the material to the district headquarters.

Why are you refusing to give a complaint form?” fumed 65-year-old N Chalapathi Rao, holding photocopies of representation of problems in his water meter. Staffers at the Prajavani of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) had refused to give him an application form saying the time was over when it was only 12.30 p.m. Customers were given time for obtaining forms till 1 p.m.

Automatic meters to check water theft

Hyderabad, January 04: With the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) loosing out revenue due to water tankers stealing water, the Board has decided install clear water meters at 96 water filling stations.

It has invited tenders from private agencies for supplying, installing and commissioning water meters having Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) and GSM technology. The meters would also be capable of transferring data to the Board’s Revenue Billing System (RBS) wirelessly.

Arogyasri camps to be held from January 6 to 12

Hyderabad, January 04: The Hyderabad district administration is going to organise Arogysri camps in all 16 mandals of the district from January 6 to 12, collector Natarajan Gulzar said.

On January 6, Arogysri camp will be organised in Chanchalguda of Charminar mandal, Erukula basthi (Saidabad) and Indiranagar (Musheerabad).

The next one will be held on January 8 in Karmika Nagar in Khairatabad mandal, Quli Qutub Shah Nagar (Golconda), Mangalhat (Nampally), MCH Quarters (Himayatnagar) and Tulasiram Nagar (Amberpet).

PM presents Ramanujan award to JNTU-K VC

Kakinada, January 04: Prime minister Manmohan Singh presented the prestigious Srinivasa Ramanujan Birth Centenary Award and a gold medal to JNT University-Kakinada (JNTU-K) vice-chancellor Allam Appa Rao at the inaugural session of the 98th Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) held at SRM University in Chennai today.

The ISCA selected Prof Rao for the award for his contribution to the development of science and technology, specifically in the area of Computational Biology, Software Engineering and Network Security.
