I can bring down Congress government in Andhra: Jagan

Hyderabad, January 11: Former Congress MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy said here Tuesday that he could bring down the party’s government in Andhra Pradesh but was doing it a favour by not asking his legislators to resign.

Jagan, as he is popularly known, came to the capital with more than 3,000 supporters and held a massive show of strength that included 24 Congress legislators and two MPs. He undertook a daylong fast to highlight the “injustice” to Andhra Pradesh in the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal Award and the plight of farmers.

Congress under no threat in Andhra, says spokesperson

New Delhi, January 11: The Congress in Andhra Pradesh is under no threat, a party spokesperson said here Tuesday as former MP Jaganmohan Reddy sat on a daylong fast with thousands of supporters, including several Congress legislators and two MPs.

Putting “speculation to rest”, spokesperson Manish Tewari said: “The Congress government was never in any kind of a threat, is not in any threat and neither will be.”

Stating that “we are not here to criticise anybody”, Tewari told reporters: “Mr Jaganmohan Reddy is not a part of the Congress party.”

UPA government may “collapse” anytime, says Venkaiah Naidu

Guntur, January 11 Senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu today said the countdown for the Congress-led Governments at the Centre and in Andhra Pradesh has started and they may “collapse” anytime.

“Both Governments are facing growing instability and may collapse anytime. Time is running out for them,” he said told reporters here.

Naidu said launch of a political party by former Chief Minister Y S R Reddy”s son, Jagan Mohan, will hasten the end of the Congress in Andhra Pradesh.

A.P. student held for harassing russian woman in goa

Panaji, Jan., 10(NSS): A student from Andhra Pradesh was arrested here for indulging in eve-teasing of a Russian woman here on Sunday evening.

According to the information, Sai Kiran, a 20-year-old student, reportedly asked the lady relaxing on the beach, for a cigarette. Even after she gave him one, he did not leave her. He trailed her and tried to get her into conversation. He also refused to heed her request to leave. Then the Russian woman called the police and handed the youth over to them.

Andhra water wars: Telangana farmers feel neglected

Hyderabad, January 11: On the New Year’s Eve, a day after the Srikrishna Committee on Telangana had submitted its report to the Union government, Venkataiah hanged himself to death. His borewells and crops had repeatedly failed, debts mounted and hope had perished.

“I have five children. The borewell failed. We have more than 3-4 lakh rupees in debt,” said Chandrakala, Venkataiah’s widow.

Jagan brings his water war to Delhi, to sit on fast at Jantar Mantar

New Delhi,January 11:Former Congress MP and the late YSR’s son Jaganmohan Reddy has brought his water war to the national Capital.

He will go on a day-long fast to protest the “injustice” meted out to Andhra Pradesh in the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal verdict. Jagan will sit on a fast from 10 am at Jantar Mantar along with his supporters.

Scam riddled Congress has failed on all fronts: Babu

T protests spread to KU, students rally for Forces withdrawal

Warangal, January 10: Demanding withdrawal of Central Paramilitary Forces from the Telangana region, the Joint Action Committee of Kakatiya University students staged a massive rally on the campus on Sunday.

Raising slogans against the state government and Home Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy, the JAC students condemned police action against the Osmania University campus and demanded immediate withdrawal of the Forces from Telangana region.

The JAC students also entered into heated argument with police.

BJP blocks roads demanding lifting of restrictions on the media

Warangal, January 10: BJP has staged a rasta roko on the Hanumakonda-Karimnagar highway on Sunday, demanding that the restrictions imposed by the government on the media be immediately lifted.

There was a heavy traffic jam because of the rasta roko.

BJP leaders have alleged that the government has imposed restrictions on the press freedom, to suppress the Telangana movement. The party has demanded immediate withdrawal of the central forces from Telangana.

Police have arrested M. Dharma Rao and other leaders of the BJP and cleared the traffic.

Maoist dumps unearthed in AP

Visakhapatnam (AP), January 09: Maoist dumps have been unearthed in Koyyuru and Kannavaram in the district and ingredients of explosives besides material for making weapons have been recovered, a senior police officer said today.

Acting on a tip-off, a police party carried out combing operation in Kannavaram forest area yesterday and recovered pipes, iron rods for making single barrel guns and other material used for making weapons besides a gas-cutter, Narsipatnam DSP N Narasimha Kishore told PTI.

No hasty decisions on Telangana: VHR

Hyderabad, January 09: Senior Telangana Congress leader and MP V Hanumantha Rao today asserted that they (Telangana Congress MPs) would not take ‘hasty decisions’ on the separate Telangana issue and would first place the views of the people of Telangana before a meeting to be convened by the Congress core committee member and Union minister Pranab Mukherjee by this month end. He noted that during the last meeting, the MPs had already made it clear to Pranab that they could not go to the people if the Centre goes back on the statement it made on December 9, 2009.

Hyderabad, January 09: War of words took place between Health minister and Mydukur MLA DL Ravindra Reddy and supporters of former Kadapa MP Jagan Mohan Reddy today.

Alleging that Jagan was blackmailing the Congress MLAs and forcing them to join hands with him, Ravindra Reddy, at a press meet, challenged the five MLAs of Kadapa district backing Jagan to quit and win the seats again on Jagan’s party. “I will also quit if they want me to do so. I have won the seat on the Congress symbol, but not by having YSR’s photo,” he said.

Hyderabad, January 09: Welcoming the recommendation of the Supreme Court’s Empowered Committee for cancellation the Obulapuram mining lease given to Karnataka BJP minister Gali Janardhan Reddy, senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member V Hanumantha Rao today urged chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy to order a comprehensive inquiry into illegal mining at Obulapuram that had been taking place for several years and to bring in a legislation to check such illegal mining in the state.

Hyderabad, January 09: The Telangana Telugu Desam Party Forum (TTDPF) wanted Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy to withdraw the paramilitary forces and other police forces from Osmania University and other educational institutions in the Telangana region.

TDP Telangana MLAs led by Forum convener Nagam Janardhan Reddy submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister this evening.

They contended that the police and paramilitary forces were indulging in unnecessary provocative activities.

No police in Osmania varsity: Andhra minister

Hyderabad, January 09:Even as Telangana leaders across the political spectrum continue to demand the withdrawal of police forces from the Osmania University here, Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Sabita Indra Reddy Sunday claimed that no police or central paramilitary forces were deployed on the campus.

She told reporters that only local policemen were deployed at the police station located in the campus.

Ramanamurthy is the new CID chief

Hyderabad, January 08: Senior IPS officer S V Ramanamurthy became the new chief of Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Andhra Pradesh. He was among the nine IPS officers who were transferred and given a new posting today.

Ramanamurthy will replace A Sivanarayana who has been posted as the Additional DGP, Coordination.

Revenue officer caught taking bribe

Hyderabad, January 08: Sleuths of the Anti-Corruption Bureau trapped Adi Ravinder Rao, village revenue officer in Pudur village in Rangareddy district when he accepted a bribe of `15,000 from a complainant for doing an official favour of processing his file and mutation of his land. The accused official reportedly went to the national highway No 7, parked his Zen car and instructed the complainant to put the amount in the dash board of the car, after which he was caught by the ACB officials. The tainted amount was seized and Ravinder Rao has been arrested, said an ACB release.

Telangana employees threaten non-cooperation

Hyderabad, January 08: Government employees from the Telangana region today threatened to launch non-cooperation movement immediately unless the Central paramilitary forces are withdrawn from the region immediately.

They demanded that political parties from Telangana should react and pressurise the government for withdrawal of forces and also introduction of a bill for formation of separate Telangana state in the forthcoming budget session of the Parliament.

They took out a rally at the Secretariat expressing their solidarity with the agitating students of Osmania University.

Vice-Chancellors reshuffled

Hyderabad, January 08: The State government today relieved Osmania University vice-chancellor T Tirupati Rao as in-charge vice-Chancellor of Kakatiya and Telangana Universities. He will be replaced by Palamuru University vice-chancellor V Gopal Reddy until further orders.

Similarly, Gopal Reddy has been relieved as in-charge vice-chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi University and will be replaced by Tirupati Rao until further orders.

Irrigation experts invited for consultations

Hyderabad, January 08: The State government on Friday invited irrigation experts to participate in consultations seeking certain explanations and guidance from the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal (KWDT) over its verdict on Krishna river waters recently. Andhra: North winds blow in more chill

Hyderabad, January 08: The twin cities continued to shiver in the grip of a cold wave with temperatures plummeting further in several districts of Telangana.

Hyderabad and Secunderabad reported 9.3 degrees Celsius today while Adilabad reported the lowest temperature of 4 degrees, Warangal 7 degrees and Nizamabad 9 degree Celcius.

However, the city recorded the lowest temperature for January at 8.3 degree Celsius on Thursday after the 6.1 degree Celcius recorded on January 8, 1946 .

Kadapa bypoll before June 7

Hyderabad, January 08: The byelections for the Kadapa Parliamentary constituency and the Pulivendula Assembly constituency will be conducted before June 7. Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwarlal has already written to the Election Commission of India (ECI) in this regard and bypolls will be conducted soon after receiving orders from the Commission.

The seats fell vacant after Kadapa former MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy and his mother Vijayalakshmi resigned to their respective posts in December, 2010.
