KCR Urges Telangana Cong Leaders to Quit Posts

Adilabad, January 20: Mounting pressure on the leaders of Congress, TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao today said the MLAs and MPs of the ruling party should quit their posts, if need be, for the sake of separate Telangana.

“Would you (Congress MPs and MLAs) die if you quit your posts? I had resigned four times earlier. Did I die? I have been talking about resignations. Still, you have reservations. I say that you have to decide whether you want to create history by resigning or lost in history by hanging on to your posts?,” he said.

Jagan to hold Jana Deeksha on petrol prices

Hyderabad, January 19: Not content with the massive show of strength – Jala Deeksha – at New Delhi on Jan 11, Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is planning a dharna at Visakhapatnam on January 22 to corner the Cente on the recent hike in the petrol prices.

Jagan, who is on his odarpu yatra in Visakhapatnam district now, will end the exercise on Jan 21 and would sit in the dharna – Jana Deeksha – on the next day.

YSR’s Ratchabanda comes back to haunt Telangana

Hyderabad, January 19: Apprehending political backlash from T supporters, 11 of the 16 ministers from Telangana reportedly opposed the government’s Ratchbanda programme in the region, scheduled to commence on Jan 24. The ministers are learnt to have expressed their displeasure to Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy during a meeting at the Secretariat here on Tuesday.

Hyderabad, January 19: For a change, TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao has turned a reel hero.

He played a brief role of a Telangana leader in the film ‘Jail Bolo Telangana’ being directed by Shankar.

He was filmed garlanding the statue of Telangana Talli at Telangana Bhavan and addressing a public meeting. The film shoot, in fact, took away the sting out of the TRS state executive meeting which was held to hammer out the future course of action for taking the Telangana movement forward.

Amit Garg is new Vijayawada police chief

Hyderabad, January 19: After keeping a few IPS officers in suspense for the last few days, the state government today appointed Amit Garg as the new Vijayawada police commissioner. He is likely to take charge of his new assignment on Thursday.

The government today gave postings to 10 IPS officers, most of whom were promoted from the rank of SPs to DIGs. The post of DIG of Karimnagar range, which was lying vacant for the last several months, was also filled up.

Bill soon to help tenant ryots

Hyderabad, January 19: The state government will bring in a legislation during the budget session of the state Legislative Assembly next month for the benefit of tenant farmers who suffer loss during natural calamities, and to simultaneously safeguard the interests of landowners and banks.

The draft legislation has already been prepared and circulated to all political parties, farmers’ organisations and other stakeholders inviting their objections and suggestions in this regard.

Seemandhra MPs get Delhi summons

Hyderabad, January 19: The Congress high command on Tuesday summoned party MPs from Andhra and Rayalaseema regions for a meeting with Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee in Delhi on Thursday. Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief D Srinivas sent a brief message to this effect to the MPs.

TRS indicates its wish to attend Telangana meet

Hyderabad, January 19: TRS Tuesday appeared to be open minded on attending the meeting of eight recognised political parties from Andhra Pradesh to be convened soon by the Centre to discuss the Telangana issue, saying it will take a decision after the agenda of the meet is made public.

Maoist arms dump recovered in AP village

Anantapur, January 19: Police have recovered an arms dump of Maoists in Srikailasam forest area near Gundipally village of Penukonda mandal in the district today.

Acting on information provided by forest workers, police searched the area and found 110 gelatin sticks, stored in a plastic drum, after digging the ground, a police officer told PTI.

The arms dump is about 7-8 years old, police said adding that further investigation is on.

Drinking water project hits another roadblock

Hyderabad, January 19: Works for the Phase-I of Godavari Drinking Water project are going to be delayed further as the government rejected sanction of Rs 1,000 crore.

Instead, it has directed the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) to approach the Housing and Urban Development Corporation Ltd (HUDCO) for seeking loans by mortgaging the latter’s prime properties, for which government has agreed to give assurance.

‘Nothing heavenly about Makara Jyothi’

Hyderabad, January 19: The annual ‘makara jyothi’ at Pulmedu near Vandiperiyar in Kerala is an event to cheat people and make business out of it, Jana Chaitanya Vedika (JCV) leaders have claimed. JCV member Babu Gogineni told reporters here today that both makara jyothi and makara vilakku have no significance and this was acknowledged by Kerala chief minister VS Achuthanandan on the floor of the house.

Planetary Society of India (PSI) president Dr Raghunandhan said that makara jyothi, which is considered sacred by many, is just the star Sirius.

Andhra proposes 35 new trains for railway budget

Hyderabad, January 19: Andhra Pradesh has sought 35 new trains in the railway budget 2011-12 and it will also take up with the railway minister the proposal for a wagon workshop at Kazipet and transforming Tirupati into a world-class railway station, an official release said Wednesday.

The state has proposed 17 new mail and express trains, including Kacheguda-Tirupati (via Dharmavaram, Pakala), Secunderabad-Howrah, Secunderabad-Kakinada, Hyderabad-Visakhapatnam, Tirupati-Guntur (via Tenali) and Karimnagar-Tirupati.

Jagan to stage dharna at Vizag on petrol hike

Post-Srikrishna report, TRS to meet on Tuesday

Hyderabad, January 18: A crucial meeting of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi will be held on Tuesday to decide the party’s future course of action.

The executive committee meeting will discuss the prevailing political situation in the region and the strategies to be adopted to intensify the T-movement.

This is the first meeting of the party after the Srikrishna Committee report was made public 10 days ago.

The meet will also focus on the next all-party meeting convened by Union Home Minister P Chidambaram in the last week of this month.

Special court for ACB cases at Rajahmundry

Hyderabad, January 18: Amidst allegations that the State government is allowing corrupt babus to go scot-free, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Monday promised to give more teeth to the Anti-Corruption Bureau to take stern measures to curb corruption.

“Corruption will not be tolerated at any level in the government. We will fully support the ACB in this regard,” the Chief Minister said.

SCCL plans two big projects to raise production

Hyderabad, January 18: The Singareni Collieries Company Ltd. (SCCL) will soon launch two mega long-wall projects, considered to be Asia’s biggest, to enhance bulk production of coal from underground mines.

According to an official press release, one project will be taken up at Adriyala in Ramagundam in Karimnagar district with an estimated capacity of 2.80 tonnes per year and another at Bhupalapalli in Warangal district with a production capacity of 2.747 tonnes.

Panel says no to demolition of Rajagopuram

Guntur, January 18: The technical committee appointed by the state government to study the Rajagopuram of Mangalagiri Panakala Swamy temple opposed demolition of the ancient structure and suggested several measures to strengthen it.

The committee inspected ancient structures in various temples in Krishna, Guntur and Khammam districts in June last year and submitted it’s recommendations to the government.

However, the commissioner of endowments issued a GO on October 19, 2010 recommending reconstruction of Rajagopuram of Mangalagiri temple.

Aged couple commit suicide on Tirumala

Tirumala, January 18: In a shocking incident, an aged couple from Kaluvai, Nellore district committed suicide by consuming pesticide on Tirumala late last night. The incident came to light today, when the TTD garden staff found their bodies in Padmavathi Parinayotsava garden. They immediately informed the higher officials, who in turn alerted the police.

CM’s press secretary member of energy cell

Hyderabad, January 18: A Chandrasekhar Reddy, the press secretary to chief minister, was today appointed as the member-secretary of the newly constituted Energy Coordination Cell in the Energy Department.

He was relieved of his earlier charge and was repatriated to his parent department. He will also hold the additional charge of executive director of APTransco.

Chandrasekhar Reddy joined as the chief public relations officer (CPRO) to the then chief minister late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy in May 2005.
