Jagan to undertake Polavaram Walk

Hyderabad, January 29: YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, along with his entourage, will undertake Polavaram Walk from Ravulapalem in East Godavari district to Polavaram for three days beginning on February 7.

The former Kadapa MP will undertake the padayatra, Polavaram Sadhana Yatra, covering a distance of 70 km.

According to Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose, MLA and former minister, the Polavaram Walk is meant to demand early execution of the project which was the dream of the late YS Rajasekhara Reddy.

Rampage at Rachabanda: Kiran cuts it short

Nalgonda, January 29: Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy cut short his Rachabanda appearance at Kondamallepalli in Nalgonda district down to two minutes of going through the motions as Telangana activists went on the rampage with a hail of stones on policemen.

Srikakulam, January 29: Tribal beat up assistant director of mines N KoteswaraRao when he, along with additional joint collector P Babu Rao Naidu, was surveying the Kannedhara hillock in the district this morning for the presence of white granite mines.

Rachabanda protests don’t deter us: CM

Hyderabad, January 29: Reiterating that the state government would abide by the Centre’s decision on the state’s bifurcation issue, chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy said his government would not be cowed down by the T activists’ attempt to disrupt Rachabanda.

He was addressing a public meeting after launching the Aadhar-based smart cards at Maheswaram in Ranga Reddy district here today.

TTD hikes prices of special prasadams

Hyderabad, January 29: The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has increased the price of special prasadams at the Tirumala temple.

As they are not sold across the counter and are given only to VIPs and Arjita Seva ticket-holders, the burden would not be felt by the general devotees.

Laddu, the main prasadam, which is sold across the counter, has, however, been exempted from the price hike. Its price will remain at Rs 25 only.

PAC calls for action against guilty officials

Hyderabad, January 29: The Public Accounts Committee, headed by senior Telugu Desam member N Janardhan Reddy, today directed senior officials concerned (of finance and social welfare departments) to take disciplinary action against erring officials for failure to submit vouchers relating to AC (Abstract Contingent) and DC (Detailed Contingent) bills to the tune of about Rs 102 crore.

All the officials responsible for the lapse should be identified within 15 days and disciplinary action initiated against the guilty, it said.

Violent protests continue in Telangana

Hyderabad, January 29: As usual, the Rachabanda programme was disrupted in several districts in Telangana region by T protagonists demanding that Telangana be delivered immediately and not sops and freebies.

At some places, the protests became violent, necessitating the police to intervene. They lathicharged the crowds. They did not spare chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy either, creating trouble in Nalgonda and Maheswaram in Ranga Reddy district.

Probe ordered into sleaze rap on IPS officer

Hyderabad, January 29: As expected, director-general of police K Aravinda Rao today asked his colleague Kode Durga Prasad to enquire into sleaze allegations against controversial IPS officer PSR Anjaneyulu. The move comes several days after chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy directed the DGP to conduct an enquiry and submit a report.

Anjaneyulu, who is presently IGP, Greyhounds, allegedly sent indecent SMSes to a few women while he was Vijayawada police commissioner.

No slackening of Telangana movement, says KCR

Hyderabad, January 29: A munsif magistrate’s court in Kanigiri in Prakasam district has directed the police to register a case against information technology principal secretary K Ratna Prabha following a complaint by a woman that the IAS officer had been threatening her.

According to sources, the woman, Vatsala, complained that Ratna Prabha had been sending her threatening SMSes.

CM distributes Adhar cards in Maheshwaram

Jagan to walk for Polavaram from Feb 7

Hyderabad, January 29: After the turn of Praja Rajyam Party, now it is the turn of former Kadapa MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy to agitate on Polavaram Irrigation Project.

Talking to media persons, former minister and staunch loyalist of Jagan, Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose said Mr Jaganmohan Reddy will begin his Polavaram Padayatra at Ravulapalem in East Godavari district. The three-day rally will begin on February 7.

TRS turns violent, Racha Banda nominal

Hyderabad, January 29: The fifth day of Racha Banda also took a violent turn with the Telangana Rashtra Samithi supporters taking their opposition to the streets on Friday.

In Nalgonda district, 16 vehicles were damaged and a DSP was hurt in the stone-pelting though the police was in full force. Similarly, in Warangal district TRS men made their presence felt despite
police forces deployed.
In Devarkonda, Nalgonda district, the TRS violence was stepped up in such a way that police had resorted to bursting tear gas shells to disperse the angry mobs.

Govt. to digitalise priceless ancient manuscripts

Hyderabad, January 29: The state government has plans to digitalise the scripts or other ancient records to spread across the importance of the ‘message’ to the people.

Efforts are on to secure, preserve and then disseminate that valuable information for the benefit of the people, particularly the local and foreign scholars.
“Preservation of priceless manuscripts by digitalisation them is one of our efforts to pay tributes to those who had tirelessly worked to impart the ‘knowledge’, Minister for Archives and Tourism Vatti Vasanth Kumar told media persons at the Secretariat on Friday.

20 TRS workers held for obstructing minister Saraiah

Warangal, January 29: Some 20 TRS workers were arrested when they tried to obstruct the Minister for Backward Classes, Mr Baswaraju Saraiah, when he went to Rangasaipet to participate in the ‘Rachchabanda’ programme.

Tension prevailed for a while when Congress workers entered into a heated argument with the TRS men.

KU Students protest, boycott exams

Warangal, January 29: Demanding introduction of Telangana bill in the Budget Session of Parliament, the Post Graduate students of colleges affiliated to Kakatiya University on Friday boycotted the PG exams and took out a massive rally in the univarsity.

Raising `Jai Telangana’ slogans, the students boycotted the examinations at colleges located in all four districts under Kakatiya University.

Chiranjeevi says media targeting him

Anantapur, January 29: The Praja Rajyam party president, Mr K. Chiranjeevi, has lamented that a particular section of the media was targeting him and spreading malicious propaganda against him.

VHR cautions partymen against supporting Jagan

Tejdeep faces music for rights violation

Hyderabad, January 28: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Thursday directed the State government to pay interim relief of Rs 4 lakh to a couple who were allegedly threatened and beaten up by Additional DGP (Sports) Tejdeep Kaur Menon in 2003.

The government is also likely to give the nod to the Crime Investigation Department to initiate criminal action against her.

Kiran’s Rachabanda turns violent in Telangana

Hyderabad, January 28: Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy’s Rachabanda programme in Mahboobnagar district, his first in the Telangana region, ran into rough weather on Thursday as Telangana activists went berserk raising slogans, hurling chairs, damaging buses and cars.

The Telangana workers, comprising TDP and TRS cadre, appeared hell bent on disrupting the programme right from the outset. The venue at Singaryapalle in Koderu manda, Mahbubnagar district, turned into a war zone for a brief while.

Bhanu stayed in Gurgaon, says aide

Hyderabad, January 28: Investigators probing the murder of faction leader G Suryanarayana Reddy alias Suri believe that the prime suspect Bhanu Kiran alias Bhanu stayed on the outskirts of New Delhi for nearly 10 days after killing Suri.

This came to light after the Central Crime Station (CCS) sleuths nabbed Bhanu’s associate and gunman, Manmohan Singh recently.
