Vizianagaram, April 16: High alert was sounded along the Andhra-Odhisha Border (AOB) following reports that some senior Maoist leaders were camping in Narayanapatna block of Koraput district in Odisha, which shares border with Parvathipuram of Vizianagaram district.

HPCL’s tunnel work stalled in Vizag

Vishakapatnam, April 16: : The country’s first underground storage for crude oil under construction in Visakhapatnam has hit a major roadblock. After a worker died as one of the tunnels of the project caved in, the construction company has decided to review the safety aspects.

Facing a major space constraint to store its crude products, the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) decided to go for underground storage in 2008.

Governor accepts Viveka’s resignation

Hyderabad, April 16: Governor ESL Narasimhan on Friday accepted the resignation YS Vivekananda Reddy as agriculture minister.

Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy had earlier forwarded the resignation letter submitted by Vivekananda Reddy on March 30.

Vivekananda Reddy, who is contesting against his sister-in- law and late YSR’s wife YS Vijayalakshmi in the Pulivendula Assembly constituency, submitted his resignation immediately at the end of the tenure of his membership of the Legislative Council (MLC) on March 29.

Jagan’s declaration of assets shoots up controversy

Hyderabad, April 17 :The assets of YSR Congress Party leader and candidate in Kadapa Lok Sabha constituency, Mr Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, which were declared by him in election affidavit seem to be generating ‘controversy’ on his properties.
From the beginning, the entire Opposition, including the Telugu Desam party, was charging Mr Jagan, who is the son of late chief minister YSR, with amassing huge properties by misusing power.

Person Kills whole family and himself

Tirumalayapalem , April 16: A man killed his wife, mother-in-law, two sisters-in-law, and finally ended his life by consuming pesticide in his house.

According to Urban Superintendent of Police P. Umapati, the incident took place in Tirumalayapalem village of Gokavaram mandal in the early hours of Friday.

K.V.V. Satyanarayana (50) of Pidatamamidi village had been involved in a dispute with his wife Varalakshmi (45) for the past few months. Varalakshmi had left her husband and was staying in her mother’s house along with her sisters.

Sathya Sai Baba critical but stable

Putthaparthi, April 15: Sathya Sai Baba, who has been undergoing treatment for multi-organ dysfunction, continues to be critical but stable, doctors attending on him said here today.

“Sathya Sai Baba continues to be in a stable state of health. Most of his vital systems have shown positive response to the treatment being given to him, but the response is slow,” a health bulletin issued by A N Safaya, Director of Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences here, said.

Man posing as Naxal held for threatening doctor

Adilabad, April 15: Task Force sleuths on Thursday arrested a person posing as a Naxal, who had been demanding Rs.5 lakh from a doctor at the Yashoda Hospital.

Police arrested A Mallesh, a resident of Railnilayam after they laid a trap. From the last few days, Dr Srikanth, an oncologist at the Yashoda Hospital in Somajiguda had been receiving threatening calls from a caller who introduced himself as Stephen of the Maoist Party. The caller demanded Srikanth to pay `5 lakh as ‘party fund’, failing which the caller threatened the doctor and his family of dire consequences.

Adopt political approach to Maoist problem: HRF

Hyderabad, April 15: Condemning the police brutality in three Chhattisgarh villages recently, the Human Rights Forum today demanded the government to adopt a political approach to the Maoist problem instead of violent suppression that has been the state’s principal response.

A two-member fact-finding team of the HRF visited Tarmetla and Morpalli villages in Konta block of Dantewada district in Chhattisgarh on April 5 to enquire into reports of arson, rape and killings in the area in March. The team spoke with residents of the two villages.

Rash driver in eve-teasing soup

Vijayawada, April 15: Police commissioner Amit Garg today ruled out the possibility of eve- teasing in the case of Tejeswari Sirisha who lost her three fingers when a motorcycle hit her near Sowmya theatre in One Town on April 10.

Sirisha, an MBA student of Amruta Sai College at Paritala, is now undergoing treatment at NIMS in Hyderabad.

Hyderabad, April 15: CONGRESS MP from Rajahmundry Vundavalli Arun Kumar today took strong exception to the adverse stories being telecast against him by a television channel owned by YS Jaganmohan Reddy, but said he would not initiate any legal action against the channel since he treated it as his own.

“Jagan Mohan Reddy wants me either to criticise the late YSR or join hands with him and praise the late leader. But, I am not ready to quit the Congress. I have no regrets over my statements made recently”, he told reporters here.

Bharani to institute award for budding poets

Hyderabad, April 15: There are many poets in the state who are not able to get their poems published or get recognition and they must be encouraged and felicitated, said Tanikella Bharani, actor, writer and short-film director.

“These days, there is no encouragement for poets. I want to support young writers. All good poets should be felicitated,” Bharani said during a press conference on Thursday, organised by the Kala Foundation.

CM to launch Prajapatham soon

Unable to pay loan, couple commit suicide

Vishakapatnam, April 15: A couple committed suicide by jumping into a well at Kasimkota village near Anakapalle in the district late last night.

They reportedly took the extreme step as they were unable to pay their debt of around ` one lakh taken from private money lenders.

The incident came to light today after some locals found their bodies floating in the well.

VSP sees 2nd mishap in 4 days

Vishakapatnam, April 15: : There was an another accident, the second in four days, at the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant on Thursday. About 30 tonnes of molten steel fell on the floor at its Steel Melting Shop (SMS) damaging equipment and cables in a replay of the April 10th accident.

Sources said the accident occurred at the time of transfer of molten steel from a ladle to a convertor. Though none was injured, the mishap unnerved officials coming as it did amidst an ongoing enquiry into the incident of April 10. The officials, however, claimed the SMS was functioning normally.

AP agrees to CBI probe into Azad”s killing

New Delhi, April 15:The Andhra Pradesh government today told the Supreme Court that it would be agreeable to a CBI inquiry into the killing of top Naxalite leader Cherukuri Rajkumar alias Azad and journalist Hemchandra Pandey by state police in a gunbattle in July last year.

A bench of justices Aftab Alam and R M Lodha, while taking on record the submission made by senior counsel Harish Salve on behalf of the state government, adjourned the matter till Monday for passing appropriate orders.

Jagan files nominations, declares Rs 365 crore in assets

Kadapa, April 15:YSR Congress Party president YS Jaganmohan Reddy on Friday filed his nomination papers for the Kadapa Lok Sabha Constituency with the Returning Officer in Kadapa district.

Mr Jaganmohan Reddy, who is fighting to retain the seat he once held before he resigned from both the Congress and the Lok Sabha, arrived at the Returning Officer’s office in a massive procession which started from YSR Ghat in Idupulapaya. He had earlier paid tributes to his father and former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy before starting to file his nomination papers.

Congress is adopting unscrupulous means, Jagan Mohan Reddy

Kadapa, April 15: YSR Congress president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy today said that the Congress was indulged in ”unscrupulous” politics ahead of the bypolls in Kadapa and Pulivendula constituencies.

Addressing a public meeting at Bhomaiahgaripalli, the rebel Congress leader and candidate for Kadapa parliamentary seat said that the upcoming bypolls are only semi finals while real finals are ahead.

Bypolls at Kadapa Lok Sabha seat and Pulivendula assembly segment are necessitated following resignations by Jagan and his mother from the Congress.
