AP: 57 in fray for Kadapa bypolls

Kadapa, April 20: On the last day of nomination for Kadapa byelections, here on Monday, as many as 36 nominations were filed including that of TDP candidate MV Mysoora Reddy. In all, 57 candidates have filed their nominations for the elections since the nominations commenced on March 11. From Congress party, DL Ravindra Reddy filed his nomination. YS Jaganmohan Reddy from YSR Congress, MV Mysoora Reddy from TDP.

Corporators get tomatoes after plane capers

Vishakapatnam, April 20: A team of 25 members comprising corporators and officials of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation, who had gone on a tour to Maharashtra, was given a hostile reception when they landed at the city airport for allegedly misbehaving with an air-hostess.

As soon as they came out of the terminal, protesters raised slogans against the corporators who reportedly misbehaved with the air hostess of a Kingfisher plane before it landed at Pune airport.

All accounts in order, clarifies Satya Sai Trust

Anantapur, April 20: Amidst allegations of financial mismanagement, Sri Satya Sai Central Trust on Monday asserted that accounts for donations received from within the country and abroad were in order.

“Audited statements (of foreign contributions) are sent to the Union Home Ministry and the annual audited statements are submitted to the various government agencies such as the Income Tax Department,” member of the trust, Raj Ratnakar, said in a statement.

Airport project still on paper

Vijayawada, April 20: The long-pending demand of the expansion of Gannavaram airport still remains a distant dream for the people of Krishna district.

It may be noted that the state government and Airport Authority of India (AAI) entered into an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2007 to develop the airport on a cost sharing basis. The development plan included expansion of the existing runway and construction of a new terminal building to facilitate an increased flight operation.

TRS meet shifted to Mahaboobnagar

Hyderabad, April 20: With Union defence ministry denying permission to the TRS to hold its 10th anniversary public meeting at the Parade Grounds on April 27, the venue has been shifted to Mahaboobnagar and the event was converted into a party delegates’ session.

According to TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao, though the Hyderabad police accorded permission, there was no green signal from the defence ministry. It has now been decided to hold a meeting of 23,000 party delegates where the future course of action on Telangana movement would be decided.

TDP demands Jagan’s prosecution

Hyderabad, April 20: The Telugu Desam urged the Election Commission on Tuesday to prosecute YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for filing a ‘false affidavit’ by suppressing the facts about his wealth before the election authorities.

In a memorandum submitted to chief electoral officer Bhanwar Lal TDP leaders P Chandrasekhar and M Narasimhulu urged him to take action against Jagan as per the Representation of Peoples Act, guidelines of the Election Commission and provisions of the Indian Penal Code.

A copy of the memorandum was sent to the Election Commission in Delhi.

CM unhappy with pace of 100-Day Plan

Hyderabad, April 20: The chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy is hardly happy with the tardy pace of works under the ‘100 Days Action Plan for Hyderabad City’ and on Monday directed officials of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to complete the balance works immediately and warned that the progress would be inspected by ministers and MLAs soon.

Reviewing the proposed action plan with the officials at his Camp Office here, the chief minister wanted proper coordination between various departments to provide better civic amenities to the people.

Dowry death: Kin demand action against in-laws

Hyderabad, April 20: A housewife, who was allegedly set ablaze by her in-laws for additional dowry a few days back, died today while undergoing treatment. The relatives of the woman staged a protest in front of her in-laws’ house demanding action against the accused.

According to police, Divya Bai (22), was married to Durgesh of Shivaji Nagar in Shamshabad and the couple have a two-year-old son, Arun.

Police said Divya Bai’s husband and in-laws used to harass her for additional dowry.

Govt accepts resignations of CC Reddy, CS Rao

Hyderabad, April 20: The state government has, at last, accepted the resignations of its adviser on foreign investments and NRI affairs CC Reddy and information technology advisor CS Rao on Monday. Though sources refused to divulge the status of the resignations of the other advisers who include KVP Ramachandra Rao, they did not rule out a decision sooner than later.

Clashes between 2 Parties, 144 section in Narsapur

Eluru, April 20: Police have imposed prohibitory orders under section 144 of the Cr.PC to quell clashing groups of the Congress and YSR Congress in Narsapur of West Godavari district on Wednesday.

Workers of the YSR Congress were setting up their office there, when Congress workers tried to prevent it. Both groups clashed and tension mounted in the area. Police have entered the scene and dispersed the clashing groups. They have imposed prohibitory orders to prevent escalation of the clashes.

A ‘do or die’ battle for both cong and YSR cong

Hyderabad, April 20:The State Congress is leaving no stone unturned to defeat the newly floated political party of Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the YSR Congress, in the present by-elections for Kadapa Lok Sabha and Pulivendula Assembly constituencies, scheduled for May 8.

Though the by-elections will witness a triangular contest between the Congress, TDP and the YSR Congress, there is no denial of the fact that the main fight will be between the Congress and the YSR Congress. The count down for the battle royal will commence after the last date of withdrawal of nominations on Thursday.

28-year-old woman commits suicide with 4 children

Kurnool, April 20: A 28-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide along with her four children, including an infant, in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool district today, police said.

Apparently upset over some family problems, Eeramma took her four children – three girls and a boy (aged one-and-half years to 8) – to a well on the outskirts of Gudekal village and jumped into it.

“The woman, along with her husband U Babu, was staying in a joint family. It seems some family disputes arose and she decided to end her life,” an Investigating Officer told PTI over phone.

Disabled rehabilitation project sanctioned for AP Dist

Kakinada, April 20: Collector M.Ravichandra said that Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment had sanctioned a special project for the welfare of the disabled in the name of district disabled rehabilitation centre (DDRC).

Addressing the officials of the Department for the Disabled here today, he said that Uma Educational and Technical Society was identified as the implementing agency for the three-year project.

BJP trying to consolidate base in AP with Jagan Gali: Srinivas

Hyderabad, April 20: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has allegedly hatched a conspiracy to consolidate its base in the state by aligning with YSR Congress President Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy through BJP Minister in Karnataka Gali Janardhan Reddy, APCC President D Srinivas alleged today.

The Karnataka Minister has close relations with former Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy’s family.

Talking to press at Gandhi Bhavan here, Mr Srinivas claimed as the BJP was ‘weak’ in the State, it was using Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy through Mr Janardhan Reddy to play a prominent role.

Ammunition dump found in AP dist

Nellore, April 20: Police found a major ammunition dump likely belonging to Maoists in this district today.

The dump was found in a roadside bush at Menakuru under Naidupet Mandal.

The dump, comprising bullets, was packed in 30 bags.

Following this, police have conducted searches in the nearby areas, police sources said.

Book Jagan for filing false assets affidavit: TDP

Hyderabad, April 20: Telugu Desam Party leaders, led by its Deputy Floor Leader Motukupalli Narishimhulu on Tuesday urged the Returning Officer for Kadapa Lok Sabha constituency to prosecute former MP and YSR Congress Party president YS Jaganmohan Reddy for filing a false affidavit and suppressing facts before the authorities as per the Representatives of Peoples Act, Guidelines of ECI and as per the provisions of the IPC.

Baba continues to be critical: Safaya

Puttaparthi, April 20:Sri Satya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences (SSSIHMS) Director A N Safaya on Tuesday stated Sri Sathya Sai Baba continues to be in a critical state of health.

In a medical bulletin released on Tuesday evening, Dr Safaya stated that the vital parameters of Satya Sai Baba are quite stable and satisfactory although the vital organs are showing slow response to the treatment.

He said that Baba’s vital systems, including liver, are showing minimal response to the treatment, which is a cause of worry for the doctors.

Woman, paramour held for killing husband

Nalgonda, April 20:Devarakonda police on Tuesday took into custody a woman and her paramour for murdering her husband from the Mallepalli bus station, Devarakonda in Nalgonda district.

According to Inspector Sardar Singh, the police were tipped off that the two suspects were planning to get away by taking a bus. They rushed to the bus stop and arrested Hemalatha and Gurumurthi who have murdered Mosaiah (48) on April 14, 2011.

Mr Sardar Singh further revealed that Hemalatha and her lover Gurumurthi were planning to flee to Hyderabad after having killed Mosaiah.

Out on bail, man hacks wife

Kadapa, April 20: Suspecting his wife’s fidelity, a man hacked her to death with the help of an axe at Singepalli Tanda, Jammalamadugu in Kadapa district late on Monday night.

According to Jammalamadugu Inspector Srinivas Reddy, the victim was identified as K Devi (28), wife of K Swamy Naik.

Swamy Naik had recently been released from jail on bail. He had been arrested for killing his two daughters.

Late on Monday night, Swamy Naik hacked his wife with a sharp axe while she was asleep.

Nominations of main candidates in Kadapa in order

Hyderabad, April 20: The authorities rejected nominations of 13 candidates for May 8 byelection to the Kadapa Lok Sabha seat.

Kadapa district collector and returning officer Shashibhushan Kumar found 43 nominations in order.

These include papers of the main candidates Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy of YSR Congress party, D.L. Ravinder Reddy of the Congress and M.V. Mysoora Reddy of Telugu Desam Party.

The returning officer turned down the demand of TDP to reject the nomination of Jaganmohan Reddy for allegedly suppressing information about his assets.

Sabbam Hari to join YSR Congress

Visakhapatnam, April 19: The Congress MP, Mr Sabbam Hari, has predicted that there was likelihood of the country facing mid-term polls after the Kadapa by-elections.

Talking to the media here on Tuesday, Mr Hari exuded confidence that Mr Jagan and his mother, Ms Vijayamma, would get elected from the Kadapa Lok Sabha and Pulivendula Assembly seats respectively. He expected drastic changes in the State politics after the by-polls.

Woman pushes 4 children into well, kills self

Kurnool, April 19: In a shocking incident, a 30-year-old woman pushed her four children into an agricultural well before jumping in herself at Gudikatta, Yemmiganur mandal in the district on Tuesday.

According to Sub-Inspector Chandrababu, Uppera Erramma, wife of Babu, pushed her children Kavita (6), Jayalakshmi (3), Thimmappa (2) and Sravani (1) into the well and then jumped in herself after being vexed due to the frequent squabbling between her husband and his brothers.

11 Jagan’s in Kadapa bypoll

Kadapa, April 18: Former MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, who is seeking re-election to the Lok Sabha from Kadapa, shares his name with ten others, who have filed their nomination papers for the bypolls to be held on May 8.

Among the 57 candidates who have filed their nomination for the bypolls, a total of 11 people, including the son of late Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, are named Jaganmohan Reddy.

Jagan, whose resignation after he quit the Congress party in November necessitated the by-elections, has filed his papers from the YSR Congress Party.
