2 farm hands killed, 15 injured in accident

Hyderabad, April 07: Two farm workers from Nizamabad district were killed and seven other seriously injured in a road accident near Bahadurpally on the outskirts of the city on Thursday night.

According to Dundigal police, the accident took place after a Tata Magic vehicle carrying nearly 21 labourers was hit by a DCM vehicle coming from the opposite direction.

Nearly 21 women from Nizamabad and Medak district came to the city to work as farm hands and were staying at Gundla Pochampally near Medchal. Police said they went to Thota Gandi Maisamma to work in the fields.

CLP warns YSR aides on mining

Hyderabad, April 07: The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) today warned that action would be taken against those, including Kadapa leaders, allegedly involved in mining irregularities in places like Bayyaram, Garla, Siripuram, etc. in Khammam district.

Local Congress elected representatives, including MLAs, MLCs and others, would undertake ‘mines protection yatra’ near the mining areas probably on May 7, it added.

Kadapa, Pulivendula go to polls on May 8

Hyderabad, April 07: The Kadapa Lok Sabha and Pulivendula Assembly by-elections on May 8, will be like a mother of all battles witnessed never before. Tehsildar arrested by ACB in Warangal

Warangal, May 07: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today arrested a Tehsildar in Warangal district of Andhra Pradesh after trapping him while taking bribe of Rs 30,000.

Lingala Suri Babu, Tehsildar of Chityal mandal, was caught red-handed by the ACB officials at his residence last night. He had demanded bribe for issuing an NOC to the complainant, and for forwarding the same to the Mines and Geology department, an ACB release said here.

Rs 100 crore is at stake on Jagan victory

Kadapa, May 07: It’s betting time in Kadapa. At least Rs 100 crore is at stake over the “victory margin” of the YSR Congress nominee, Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Political activists from East and West Godavari, Hyderabad, Krishna and Guntur districts are involved in the betting activity.

While some have bet luxury cars valued up to Rs 25 lakh, others have offered utility items like costly cellphones, fridges and air conditioners.

Hotels, lodges and guesthouses, where political leaders and workers from these districts are put up, have become impromptu betting dens.

Azad enquires Kiran about Jagan’s MLAs

New Delhi, May 06: AICC leader in charge of AP affairs, Mr. Gulam Nabi Azad is reported to have enquired with the Chief Minister Mr. N. Kirankumar Reddy about the MLAs supporting the YSR Congress chief Mr. Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and campaigning for him and his mother in the Kadapa by elections. He is also believed to have asked the Chief Minister about the party’s prospects in the by elections.

AP govt allows export of rice for two months

Hyderabad, May 04: Andhra Pradesh today decided to permit export of raw rice from the state for a limited period of two months with periodic monitoring of price.

The government also decided to permit export of boiled rice without any conditions, in a step aimed at ensuring minimum support price to farmers on their Rabi produce.

The decisions were taken at a high-level review meeting chaired by Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy here today.

Jagan promises 4% political reservation for Muslim

Kadapa, May 04: The YSR Congress candidate for the Kadapa Lok Sabha seat, Mr Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, on Tuesday promised four per cent political reservation for the Muslim.

Addressing an election meeting at Mydukuru, the native constituency of the health minister and his Congress rival, Mr D.N. Ravindra Reddy, Mr Jagan said that his father Y.S. Rajashekar Reddy had provided four per cent quota for Muslims in jobs and education.

15 more Marine Police stations will add to AP coastal security

Kadapa, May 04: Though the Congress and YSR Congress candidates, Mr Y S Vivekananda Reddy and Mr Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy were avoiding personal attacks against each other in their speeches, they are leveling allegations in their pamphlets in the ongoing by-elections.

Mr Vivekananda Reddy has alleged that Mr Jagan was disloyal to the Congress party which has helped his family grow politically. “Leaving the party of your origin and causing these by-elections unnecessarily, do you call this trustworthiness? Viveka questioned his nephew in the pamphlets.

Govt wants Andhra mine iron ore sale ban till CBI probe

New Delhi, May 03: The government Monday told the Supreme Court that the iron ore stock excavated by the Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) in Andhra Pradesh should not be sold till the CBI has completed its probe into allegations of illegal mining against the company.

Attorney General G. Vahanvati told the apex court that iron ore lying in the stockyard would not suffer any damage and the Central Bureau of Investigation would take another three to four months to complete its probe.

Outsiders not allowed in Kadapa after May 6 evening: CEO

Hyderabad, May 03: Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwar Lal on Monday made it clear that no outsiders could stay in Kadapa after 5 PM of May 6.

Mr Bhanwar Lal also clarified that the press could visit the district provided they carry the relevant passes.

The CEO also revealed to media persons that as per the complaint received, one Inspector was transferred, cash of Rs 2.21 crore has been seized so far, and 82 persons have been arrested in Kadapa.

Besides this, Mr Bhanwar Lal said that action would be taken against any person found to provoking the people in the name of religion.

Depressed woman tries to kill granddaughter

Khammam, May 02: In a shocking incident, a woman tried to kill her granddaughter by placing on railway tracks at Peddapalli in Khammam district on Monday.

According to Sub-Inspector Prashanth Reddy, Ijjagiri Lakshmi (45), a resident of Ratnapur village in Khammam, used to tend to her granddaughter Sandhya Rani (10 months), since the past four months after her daughter Shoba Rani (25) committed suicide.

Book KCR for insulting Andhra Brahmins: Vijayawada Court

Vijayawada, May 02: The First Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Vijayawada, on Monday ordered the Satyanarayanapuram police to register a case against Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao for trying to create a wedge between Brahmins of Telangana and Seemandhra regions.

The Court ordered that KCR should be booked Indian Penal Code Sections 153, 153(A), 153(B), 500 and 506.

KCR cannot manage 10 MLAs, what about T, asks Nagam

Hyderabad, May 02: Reiterating that he would never compromise on the Telangana state formation, Telugu Desam Telangana Forum convener Nagam Janardhan Reddy on Monday called upon all Telangana leaders to make concerted efforts by sinking differences among themselves.

Talking to media persons at Telugu Desam Legislature Party Office, Mr Janardhan Reddy said “I will compromise on any other issue except on Telangana. Jagan’s corruption has brought disrepute to AP: Chiru

Kadapa, May 02: Praja Rajyam Party president K Chiranjeevi on Monday said that the state has been belittled and has lost respect due to involvement of YSR Congress Party president YS Jaganmohan Reddy in large-scale corruption.

Addressing a road show during the by-election campaign at Yerraguntla in Kamalapuram mandal in Kadapa district, the PRP chief lashed out at Mr Jaganmohan Reddy and said that he has no moral right to seek votes from the people of the district.

Brahmins drag KCR to court

Vijayawada, May 02: TRS chief KCR has made controversial remarks on Andhra Brahmins, making them angry. During a Yagna he has performed recently, he said while the Telangana Brahmins knew the Mantra well and were chaste, the Andhra Brahmins were shallow and pompous.

A case was registered on the controversial leader for making these derogatory remarks. One Govindarajula Srinivasa Rao has filed a private petition in the Vijayawada court, charging KCR of insulting the Andhra Brahmins.

Sachin to donate Sai marble statue

Puttaparthi, May 02: Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar is keen to pay ‘guru dakshina’ to Sathya Sai Baba. He is likely to donate the entire amount required for a marble statue of the Baba which is to be erected on or beside the Maha Samadhi.

According to sources, the statue may cost around Rs 30 lakh. The Sathya Sai Central Trust is yet to accept the offer and make an official announcement to that effect. Tendulkar broke down after Sai’s death and rushed with his family from Hyderabad to Puttaparthi to pay his last respects to Sai.
