Chiranjeevi may get a berth in Central cabinet

Hyderabad, May 12: PRP chief Chiranjeevi is learnt to have got enough hints that he would be taken into the Central cabinet as state minister with independent charge in return for merging his party with the Congress.

Chiranjeevi is understood to have been given the assurance at his meetings with Sonia Gandhi’s political secretary Ahmed Patel and Union minister and AP Congress affairs in-charge Ghulam Nabi Azad at Delhi on Wednesday.

2nd phase of medical counselling from May 16

Vijayawada, May 12: The second and final phase of counselling for admission in PG medical degree and diploma courses for the academic year 2011-12 will be held at the NTR University of Health Sciences from May 16 to 20. OUJAC asks CM to stall SI recruitment

Hyderabad, May 12: A delegation of Osmania University Joint Action Committee (OUJAC) on Wednesday met Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy at his camp office demanding that the recruitment for sub-inspector posts be withheld until 14 (F) clause in the Presidential Order is scrapped.

They told him that the aspirants from the region would be deprived of their due share in the SI posts if the examinations are conducted before 14 (F) is scrapped.

SRC to devise security system for hospitals

Hyderabad, May 12: In accordance with the assurances made to junior doctors, the state government on Wednesday constituted the Security Review Committees (SRC) to recommend measures for the establishment of a comprehensive security management system in government teaching hospitals and medical colleges.

The Committee is authorised to consult experts on hospital security and undertake such studies that might be useful for bolstering security in the hospitals. A comprehensive report will be submitted to the government by May 31.

Con man held in Rajahmundry

Hyderabad, May 12: A con man was arrested by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) for cheating people by promising gold biscuits at a cheaper price in Rajahmundry on Wednesday.

The arrested, V Srinivas Gupta, duped more than 60 people by taking lakhs of rupees from people for gold biscuits.CID officials recovered Rs 54 lakhs cash, three gold biscuits, gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 10 lakhs and a Swift Dzire car worth Rs 9 lakh.

“Srinivas lived lavishly on the money taken from these gullible people,” the DGP (CID) said.

Smartcards for tankers to check water theft

Hyderabad, May 12: After dilly-dallying for several months, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) has decided to implement a new system at water filling stations to check water theft.

It consists of a smart card system, where a gate pass will be generated through an Electronic Point of Sale (EPOS) terminal and water drawn at each filling point compared to number of trips made.

Bus terminal to come up at Miyapur

Hyderabad, May 12: Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has ordered the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) for speedy completion of the inter-city bus terminal at Miyapur. The new facility will have 200 bus bays for outstation buses and 30 for city buses.

During a meeting with HMDA officials, he also approved plans for development of truck terminals at Batasingaram and Mangalapally. Officials also briefed the chief minister on development of the YSR Memorial opposite the I-Max. He also directed officials to speed up the Outer Ring Road projects.

Slain cop Lalitha was already engaged: Parents

Hyderabad, May 12: The body of woman constable Lalitha, who was killed by her fellow constable V Srinivas, was handed over to her parents on Tuesday.

The deceased’s parents, Chandrashekar and Mani told police they were ignorant of the fact that Lalitha was having an affair with Srinivas.

They also informed police they recently finalised a match for her and she had even got engaged. “In the coming months, Lalitha’s was supposed to get married but before that her lover Srinivas killed her,” Kukatpally sub-inspector Nageshwar Rao said.

Sai Baba temple chairman duped

Hyderabad, May 12: The chairman of Sai Baba temple at Dilsukhnagar was duped of Rs 30,000 by a person who identified himself as R J Ratnakar, nephew of Satya Sai Baba and one of the trust member of Sri Satya Sai Trust, Puttaparthi.

The trickster called the chairman over phone and asked him to deposit the money in the bank as his family members were in urgent need of the money.

According to police, the chairman of the temple at Saroornagar, G Mallaiah received a call around 2 p.m and the caller identified himself as Ratnakar.

Man kills wife for bearing girl child

Kurnool, May 12: A pregnant woman was allegedly beaten to death by her husband in Shankarmatham mandal in Kurnool district after he found out that she was bearing a girl child.

Breaking all rules, a private scanning centre in the town had conducted the sex determination test to confirm that it was a female foetus. The accused, Prakash Chari, mercilessly beat up his wife Surekha, who was six months pregnant, and strangled her in their home in Pedda Market Street late on Tuesday night.

Odarpu Yatra postponed to May 24

Vizianagaram, May 12: The ‘Odarpu Yatra’ of YSR Congress Party president YS Jaganmohan Reddy, scheduled to resume on May 14 from Vizianagaram district, has been postponed to May 24.

According to former minister P Sambhasiva Raju, the yatra, which was scheduled to resume on May 14, was postponed due to counting of votes of Kadapa by-election on May 13 and due to election code being in place.

Teenage girl commits suicide in front of lover

Kakinada, May 11: A teenage girl allegedly committed suicide by consuming pesticide in presence of her lover in coconut garden on the village outskirts of Sivakodu under Razole police station limits here today.

Police said her lover, who belonged to other caste, immediately rushed the girl to government Hospital at Razole where she died.

The police identified the deceased as Donga Madhavi (19) and her lover as Pithani Mahesh (20).

The parents of the girl lodged a complaint with the police blaming the lover for her death and demanded his arrest.

Rajahmundry Dy Mayor booked for dowry harassment

East Godavari, May 11: Dowleshwaram police on Tuesday registered a case against Rajahmundry Deputy Mayor B Satyanarayana Prasad after his wife alleged that she was subjected to domestic violence and harassed by him and his family for additional dowry.

According to Rajahmundry Rural Inspector Ambika Prasad, Sujatha Chowdary (40), along with media persons, approached the police with a complaint against her husband, his brother Gopi and his wife Durga used to manhandle her.

Srupen’s parents planned US trip for convocation

Karimnagar, April 10: A pall of gloom descended on Karimnagar town on Monday following death of Velumula Srupen Reddy (24), along with three of his friends, in a road mishap on Missouri Highway in USA on Sunday.

The information was passed on to the family by their relative, Mahipal Reddy, who lives in Dallas. Srupen’s father, V Ganga Reddy, who works as a project officer, Rajiv Vidya Mission and mother, Manjula, collapsed on hearing the news of death of their elder son. Ganga Reddy was admitted to a private hospital.

Vizianagaram, April 10: Maoists’ Srikakulam and Koraput Joint Division area committee member Pattika Kalavati alias Chinna Santi alias Nirmala surrendered before superintendent of police Navin Gulati on Monday.

Nirmala was involved in 14 criminal cases in Vizianagaram and Koraput district of Odisha including blasting of a cold storage belonging to Doki Satyanarayana of Jimidipeta village in Rayagada district of Odisha during the People’s Liberal Guerilla Army (PLGA) week celebration in 2004.

PRP may drop disqualification petition

Hyderabad, April 10: With rebel PRP MLA Katasani Ramireddy returning to the party fold, deserting Jagan Mohan Reddy camp, the party might drop disqualification proceedings against him.

Even deputy speaker Nadendla Manohar, who had earlier served notice on Katasani to respond to the disqualification petition filed by the PRP, is of the view that there would be no case if the issue was settled by the parties concerned.

Besides, he wants to first act on the disqualification petition pending against TDP rebel MLA N Prasanna Kumar Reddy (Kovur) for more than a year.

Hyderabad, April 10: Action to be taken against rebel MPs, MLAs and MLCs loyal to Jagan Mohan Reddy of YSR Congress party and separate Telangana issues figured at the one-hour meeting APCC president D Srinivas had with Union minister and incharge of AP affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad in New Delhi on Monday morning.
