Protests over Rahul’s arrest

Hyderabad, May 14: Congress party leaders and workers organised protests across the state against the Mayawati’s government in Uttar Pradesh for arresting AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday.

APCC chief D Srinivas also participated in a dharna on Gandhi Bhavan premises.

New kalyana mandapam in Bhadrachalam

Bhadrachalam, May 14: Sri Sita Ramachandra Swamy Devasthanam is planning to shift Kalyana Mandapam from the existing place as per Agama Shastra to enable more devotees to witness the celestial wedding on Sri Rama Navami comfortably.

At present, devotees are witnessing the divine wedding sitting behind the Kalyana Mandapam.

But the celestial fete is not clearly visible to a majority of devotees. Hence, it has been decided to shift the Kalyana Mandapam.

Central cabinet likely for Undavalli or Kavuri

Hyderabad, May 14: Will any one from the state make it to the Central cabinet this time? This question is uppermost in the minds of politicos since a reshuffle is likely sooner than later.

If the Centre decides to give fresh representation to Andhra Pradesh, it might consider either Undavalli Arun Kumar (Rajahmundry) or Kavuri Sambasiva Rao (Eluru).

SKS moves SC against MFI Act

Hyderabad, May 14: Fearing massive defaults due to poor micro loan recoveries, city-based SKS Microfinance Ltd, the country’s largest Micro Finance Institution (MFI), on Thursday filed a special leave petition in the Supreme Court seeking a stay on the Andhra Pradesh MFI Act which prevents multiple-lending and coercive practices to recover loans.

Congress did’nt expect to win

New Delhi, May 13: AICC general secretary and in-charge of AP affairs, Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad, has said that the Congress did not expect to win at a place where late chief minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy’s family members were in contest.

Talking to the media here on Friday, Mr Azad said that the victory of Mr Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy in Kadapa Lok Sabha and Ms Vijaya Lakshmi’s in Pulivendula Assembly constituencies was expected. However, he said that Pulivendula and Kadapa elections would not influence either the national or State politics.

Jagan, mother set for huge wins

Kadapa, May 13: Establishing an unassailable lead of over 200,000 votes, YSR Congress party chief Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy was Friday heading for a landslide victory in the Kadapa Lok Sabha constituency. His mother Y.S. Vijayalaxmi was also ahead of her rivals in the Pulivendula assembly by-election.

Riding on a sympathy wave in the family stronghold, the young Reddy — son of late chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy — established a lead of 220,000 votes at the end of eighth round of counting.

Telangana agitation to intensify again, warns TRS

Hyderabad, May 13: In a bid to intensify its demand of statehood for Telangana once again, the Telangana Rashtra Samiti has lined up a series of agitations this month.

“In view of the year-end exams of students, we had intentionally slowed down the movement. But we have planned to give it a momentum once again, and hence, we have come out with an action plan,” TRS president Chandrasekhar Rao told mediapersons on Thursday after holding a meeting of the TRS state executive committee at the party office.

Congress MLA to lodge complaint against CEO

Hyderabad, May 12: Kamalapuram MLA Veerashiva Reddy has decided lodge a complaint with the Election Commission against chief electoral officer (CEO) Bhanwar Lal for failing to conduct a free and fair poll in Kadapa district.

He alleged that the CEO had failed to act on specific complaints about YSR Congress party’s malpractices in the just concluded byelections. Speaking to media persons here on Wednesday, the MLA said the CEO had permitted several YSR Congress party leaders, who were outsiders, to stay in the district on the poling day which was against the rules.

AP bags 13 of Top 25 ranks in Civils

Hyderabad, May 12: The State has bagged as many as 13 of the top 25 ranks in the Civil Services Examinations-2010 the results of which were released on Wednesday.

And, at least 44 figured in the top 500. Heading the list is all India second ranker, Swetha Mohanty, an Assistant Commissioner in the Customs department in Siliguri, West Bengal. Her father PK Mohanty is a 1979 batch IAS officer of the Andhra Pradesh cadre and has served in various capacities including as Commissioner of Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad.

Harikrishna, Nagam may skip meeting

Hyderabad, may 12: Rebel TDP MLA Nagam Janardhan Reddy and Rajya Sabha member Nandamuri Harikrishna may skip the crucial politburo meeting of TDP on Thursday, which is scheduled to discuss the arrangements for the ensuing Mahanadu.

Nagam and Harikrishna, both politburo members, have not been attending the meetings in the recent past. Harikrishna may skip Thursday’s meeting as he had strained relations with Naidu in the recent past. Nagam Janardhan Reddy, who revolted against Naidu over separate Telangana too might skip the meeting.

10 IAS Officers to oversee Paddy Procurement

Hyderabad, may 12: To ensure that farmers would get minimum support price for their produce, the state government on Wednesday appointed 10 senior IAS officers as special officers to oversee procurement of paddy for rabi season. These officials will work in coordination with the district collectors, joint collectors, civil supplies department, Food Corporation of India and railway department to facilitate speedy purchase of paddy and its storage.

Hyderabad, may 12: Even as the State government is gearing up to embark upon oil and natural gas exploration in the Krishna-Godavari (KG) basin, work pertaining to one of the blocks is likely to get delayed due to objections raised by the Defence Ministry. “The Defence Ministry has raised some objections pertaining to safety issues in the deepwater gas block. The lead partner, British Gas, will now coordinate with the Ministry of Petroleum, which originally allotted these blocks to the Andhra Pradesh Gas Infrastructure Corporation (APGIC) to sort out the issue.

Adoni SI held for cheating woman

Kurnool, May 12: Adoni III Town SI Eswaraiah was held at the RTC bus station in the town yesterday following a complaint by a woman that he cheated her in the name of marriage.

After being arrested, he was produced in Yemmiganur court, as it was a holiday for the local court, and send on 15-day remand, Adoni I Town CI Ramachandra told reporters today.

A woman, Chandrakala, met the Adoni ASP on May 4 alleging that Eswaraiah cheated her. On directions from the ASP, CI Ramachandra registered a case.

Trucker runs over RTC driver after a tiff

Nellore, May 12: In a shocking incident, a RTC bus driver was murdered by a lorry driver at Vedayapallem centre here in the wee hours of Wednesday.

According to police, at around 2.15 a.m, a RTC bus was going to Madera in Khammam from Tirupati, when a lorry from Chennai going towards Vijayawada, hit the bus from behind.

Immediately, the bus driver M Durga Rao, parked the bus at the side of the road and went to confront the lorry driver, who had parked his vehicle near the Nallapareddy Srinivasulu Reddy statue in the area.
