State govt.extending Rs.10.000 Cr. subsidy on fertilizers

Andhra Pradesh agriculture minister Kanna Lakshminarayana today said the state government was spending Rs.10,000 crore as subsidy on fertilizers and assured all kinds of assistance to farmers.

Addressing a programme, he said in 2004, the subsidy on fertilizers was only Rs.1,900 crore.

Now, it was Rs.10,000 crore.

Woman commits suicide after killing her son

In a shocking incident, a young woman committed suicide by hanging herself after killing her 4-year old son at Srinagar colony in satyanarayana puram here today. Police said that the deceased D Manasa (22), committed suicide after killing her son Manoj (4).

MP Hari Krishna unveils statue of N T Rama Rao

All party leaders vow to intensify agitation for port

All party leaders, at a round table conference on the construction of port in Machilipatnam, vowed to intensify the agitation, if the government did not make a clear statement during the ongoing Assembly sessions. Participating at the round table conference, here today, all party leaders, including Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader and Machilipatnam MP Konakalla Narayana called for Krishna district bandh on April 11 in protest against the indifferent attitude of the state government in expediting the process for the construction of port.

BJP to contest bypoll in 17 assembly seats in AP

Bharatiya Janata Party Andhra Pradesh Unit President G Kishan Reddy today said the party will contest the by-elections for the 17 Assembly seats caused due to disqualification of the YSR Congress party legislators. Addressing a press conference here, he said the party would contest from the all 17 seats in the by-elections. Minor Irrigation Minister T G Venkatesh on Saturday hoped that the YSR Congress party would merge into the Congress party on the lines of Praja Rajyam Party soon.

Talking to media persons, Venkatesh said that the MLAs who quit the Congress party were now making efforts to join the parent party due to bleak political future for the YSR Congress party and due to its president’s involvement in various corruption cases. He hoped the YSR Congress party would merge into Congress soon.

Cash seizure: Plea dismissesed of Sathya Sai Trust

A sessions court on Friday dismissed the revision pleas of Sathya Sai Central Trust seeking return of Rs 35.5 lakh cash seized by police from a vehicle, allegedly belonging to the Trust in June 2011.

Judge T Gangi Reddy upheld the orders passed by the court of Hindupur judicial magistrate which had directed for handing over the seized amount to the Income-Tax Department in August last.

The judge dismissed the revision petition filed by the Trust saying the money will be in custody of the IT department till the final investigation in the case was completed.

‘Ready to fight battle for Telangana in court’

Expressing support to the separate Telangana statehood demand, Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy on Thursday said he is ready to fight a legal battle for the cause.

He said he is ready to file a petition over the demand either in Supreme Court or in the High Court here and asked the pro-Telangana lawyers to send him details of the issue.

Citing the examples of his “legal victories” in Rama Sethu issue and 2G spectrum scam case, he said a similar success can be achieved on Telangana issue as the government allegedly went back on its promise to form a separate state.

2 students drown in reservoir

Two students of tenth standard drowned when they were swimming in a reservoir at Karvetinagar mandal, about 50 kMs from here today. Police here said the tragedy occurred when nearly 35 students, including girls from a private school in Tirupati, went to the Ammapalli reservoir located at Krishnapuram village for a picnic. The two bodies – Chandu and Kamala – were fished out and sent to Puttur government hospital for post-mortem, police added. UNI

2 children die due to food poison

Two chilren died and six fell ill after consuming preserved food at Maddur mandal in the district today. After celebrating house inauguration ceremony by one family at Nandipadu village on February 28, the family distributed the balanced food to their surrounding families next day after preserving it. The preserved food was consumed by the family members and also other families in the village yesterday. But they complained of stomach pain and vomiting since last night.

APEPDCL announces new schedule

Andhra villagers continue protest against power plant

A year after three villagers died in police firing on a group opposing an upcoming thermal power project, the struggle by people of Kakrapalli in Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam district is still on.

The relay hunger strike by the villagers demanding scrapping of the project entered its 564th day Wednesday while protestors also unveiled a memorial as a mark of tribute to those who died in the police firing Feb 28 last year.

Two students killed, 10 missing as bus falls into canal

At least two students killed and 10 others went missing after a school bus fell into a canal in Andhra Pradesh’s East Godavari district Tuesday, police said.

The rescue workers recovered two bodies while search was on for others even after darkness. The local people saved 20 children.

The bus carrying the students of a private school fell into the irrigation canal at G. Peddapudi in P. Gannavarm mandal near the port city of Kakinada in East Godavari district, about 500 km from Hyderabad.

Farmers take out a massive rally against tardiness in modernization works.

Farmers here today took out a huge rally and organized a darna in front of the Superintendent Engineer of Irrigation’s office, protesting against ‘tardiness’ in carrying out Krishna Delta East canal modernization work. The farmers converged at the Swarajya Maidan ground and went to the irrigation office in rally. Later they squatted at the office, raising slogans against the government for it lackadaisical attitude in completing the modernization of east canal works.

Lok Satta to contest from two seats in by-polls

The Lok Satta party will field its candidates from two seats in the by-elections to be held on March 18.

Karimnagar police prevents Kavitha from unveiling statue

Telangana Jagruti president K Kavitha was taken into custody by the Karimnagar police on Sunday while she was proceeding to a village to unveil the statue of tribal leadeer Kommaram Bheem.

Kavitha was arrested near Chittakani in Kataram mandal. She was scheduled to go Yemenpalli near Manthan of Karimnagar district. Police said that the statue was installed without permission and therefore, its unveiling was disallowed by the police.

Couple attempts to sell three-month-old girl

Adilabad, February 25: An attempt to sell a three-month-old baby girl by a young couple in Andhra Pradesh was foiled in Mancherial town of Adilabad district, police said on Friday.

Accused Atram Akbar and Maheshwari, in their 20s, allegedly tried to sell the baby for Rs 1.5 lakh yesterday and planned to utilise the money to start a business.

The couple even negotiated with one “buyer” for the same, but after some locals suspected their intention, the “attempt” was foiled, they said.

Govt to set up thermal plant in SPSR Nellore

The State Government is planning to set up a 14,460 MW thermal power station in SPSR Nellore district.

Replying to a question raised by MLAs M Sridhara Krishna Reddy and B Durga Prasad Rao, Information Technology Minister Ponnala Laxmaiah said that the power station would be set up with final environmental clearances from the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests.
