Bypolls’ notification in August: Bhanwar Lal

State Chief Election Commissioner Bhanwar Lal has said that the bye-elections’ notification pertaining to the 18 Assembly constituencies and one Lok Sabha seat may be issued in August.

Bhanwar Lal had a meeting with all political parties, district officials of three constituencies in the district where bye-elections to be held.

Speaking on the occasion, Bhanwar Lal said that the Commission will initiate steps to conduct the bye-elections in an impartial manner. (NSS)

MET office forecasts increase in temp in state

The Meteorological Department here has informed that there was a chance of increase in temperature level in the coming two days.

According to the officials of the Department, on Tuesday, Adilabad and Mahabubnagar recorded highest temperature in the State with 41 degrees. Medak, Nizamabad and Kurnool stood second recording 40 degrees. Kadapa, Ananthapuram and Hyderabad recorded 39 degrees, Tirupati, Vijayawada 38 degrees, Visakha 35 degrees.

They said that there was a possibility of increase in heat wave conditions in the State, following the increase in temperatures. (NSS)

CEO advises strong policing in faction-hit areas for by-polls

Chief Electoral Officer Banwar Lal on Tuesday suggested that the Police Department increase the reinforcements in the faction affected areas, which are going to by-elections in the State.

Talking to media persons after having the Darshan of Kameswari Devi Temple at Mahanandi in Kurnool district, the CEO said that police department should strengthen its network in the faction-hit villages of Rayalaseema region before the by-elections. He also called upon the electorate to exercise their franchise in a free and fair manner in the ensuing by-elections.

Swine flu cases causing scare in Vizag

Andhra Pradesh Ports and Infrastructure Minister G. Srinivasa Rao today directred the medical and health officials to take steps to prevent the spread of swine flu in the Port City. CBI probe is much ado about nothing: Raghavulu

CPI(M) State secretary B V Raghavulu has said that the CBI investigation is like the proverbial ‘much ado about nothing’.

Talking to the media here on Monday, he said that leaving high officials and ministers, who could be responsible for irregularities, the names of private companies were mentioned in the CBI charge-sheet. He said that at least in the supplementary charge-sheet, the agency should have included the names of public representatives, who were responsible for the irregularities. (NSS)

Modernisation of courts in AP on the anvil: Lokur

Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court Madan B Lokur has said that a comprehensive plan of modernisation of courts is being considered keeping in view needs of the future. He was speaking after inaugurating a judicial center at the newly-constructed court building here yesterday. “Most of the courts are in a dilapidated condition presently and do not meet the requirements due to lack of infrastructure facilities,” he said. “Considering all the points and keeping in future of these court, we have planned to moderise the court building in the dilapidated buildings in the state,” he added.

Spice Jet flight grounded due to technical snag

A Hyderabad-bound Spice Jet aircraft was grounded at Gannavaram Airport due to last minute detection of a technical sang, here today. Airport Director Pattabhi told UNI that the pilot of the flight, which was scheduled to take off at 0830 hrs, noticed a technical snag when the aircraft was about to take off. The flight was immediately grounded and the passengers were sent to Hyderabad by another flight. The flight was being repaired and would take off as soon as the technical trouble is rectified, the Director said. UNI

Forest officials seize 21 birds from poacher

The forest officials today arrested a bird hunter and seized 21 birds from him at Kolleru Birds Sanctuary at Kolleru Lake in Krishna District of Andhra Pradesh. Forest officials, said on a tip off, they arrested J M Lava Raju and seized 21 live birds including five Common Teels , two Indian More Harns, Four Saintail Jackon, five Visiting Teals and five Cotton Teals. AP govt provided loans to 1.2 crore farmers in FY12

Andhra Pradesh Agriculture Minister Kanna Lakshiminarayana today said that the state government provided crop and other loans to 1.2 crore farmers in the current financial year compared to 50 lakh persons in Telugu Desam Party rule before 2004. Addressing Rayalaseema regional conference of agriculture officials here, the minister directed the officials to prepare comprehensive plans for distributing seeds and fertilizer to farmers in ensuing Kharif season.

First swine flu case of the year in Vizag district

First swine flu case has been detected in the district in a thirty-year-old man who is battling for life at a private hospital here, district authorities said today. The man whose identity has been withheld was admitted at a private hospital here following high fever and respiratory complications on March 28, district nodal officer for Swine flu L.B.S.H Devi said, adding this is the first case reported in the city this year.

75 Maoist militia members surrender in Andhra

More than 75 militia members from Korukonda Area Committee of Maoists on Saturday surrendered before the Visakhapatnam rural police.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (Visakhapatnam Range) Soumya Mishra said those surrendered included eight members involved in blasting of BSNL towers at Lambasinghi in November 2011, burning of Andhra Pradesh Forest Development Corporation quarters at Cherlapalli village last December and attack on police team at Rallagedda village in February.

Crocodile gets caught in fishermen’s net

A 6 ft long crocodile got caught in fishermen’s net while they were fishing in a tank at Dodduru village in Krosuru mandal of the district today.

Divisional Forest Officer P Srinivas Rao said the fishermen informed the forest officials. The crocodile weighed about 55 KG. The villagers were surprised how a giant crocodile had slipped into the tank. The forest official suspect that the crocodile would have been carried away by flood waters and pushed into the tank. 9 PSUs incurring losses of Rs 684,39 Cr in AP

Twenty eight Public Sector Undertakings of Andhra Pradesh have earned a profit of Rs 922.95 crore while nine incurred a loss of Rs 684.39 crores during the year 2010-11, a report of the Comptroller and Auditor General said today. The report placed in the State Assembly today said during 2010-11, there were 48 working PSUs and 24 non-working PSUs which employed 2.64 lakh employees, the report said the working PSUs registered a turnover of Rs 61,476.93 crore, which is equal to 10.83 per cent of state GDP.
