CM orders probe into Guntur building collapse

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Thursday ordered a probe into the collapse of an under construction school building at Donka Road in Guntur district in which six labourers were killed.

Expressing serious concern over the death of six labourers, the Chief Minister directed the Guntur District Collector Vishnu to personally supervise the relief and rescue operations and provide better medical assistance to those injured in the incident.

Meanwhile, Joint Collector N Yuvaraj has been appointed as the investigation officer and he has been asked to submit a report soon.

Congress confused over issue of disowning YSR: YSRC

The Congress Party is in a cloud of confusion on the issue of disowning YSR with a section of leaders openly defying the idea and the leadership changing its stand more frequently to its comfort, YSR Congress Party spokesperson Ambati Rambabu said.
Talking to reporters here, Mr Ambhati said, “The state of confusion of Congress is very clear, leaders like Sai Prathap and others have openly said that they cannot criticise YSR. Even Mr Palakonda Rayudu told TDP leader N Chandrababu Naidu that he cannot speak against YSR. All these are indications of what is in store for the two parties.”

Women of khammam district die in maoist attack

Two women from Khammam district have died in an attack by the Maoists on a police camp in Vemulvada under Sukuma district of the neighboring Chattisgarh state on Wednesday.

According to information, these women were identified as Koteswari (56) and Kumari (30) from Kunavaram village of Khammam district who were working there.

The women were injured when Maoists attacked the camp during the wee hours of Wednesday. They were rushed to a hospital and attended to. Still the two women succumbed to their injuries. (NSS)

YSR Congress party leader Jupudi Prabhakar Rao on Tuesday stated that the Congress party would lose heavily in the by-elections if it targets former chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.

Talking to media persons, Prabhakar Rao said that the people, who benefitted from YSR welfare schemes and programmes, would revolt against the Congress government if it targets YSR. He said that the people of the respective constituencies would teach a fitting lesson to the Congress party and Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy in the by-elections for neglecting YSR schemes and diluting his pet programmes.

Ramchandraiah condemns Naidu’s remarks on Chiranjeevi

Endowment Minister C Ramachandraiah on Tuesday came down heavily on Telugu Desam party president N Chandrababu Naidu for targeting Rajya Sabha member K Chiranjeevi during his the by-elections campaign in Tirupati.

Talking to media persons, Ramachandraiah said that Naidu, who was defeated in Chandragiri Assembly constituency and contested from Kuppam segment, has no moral right to criticize Chiranjeevi. Unlike Naidu, Chiranjeevi has not gone anywhere and the Congress party has elevated him to Rajya Sabha, he said.

Pregnant women dies due to Swine Fue in Port City

The District Nodal Officer LBAH Sri Devi today said a 23-year-old pregnant women, who was battling for life in the Government Hospital for chest and communicable diseases here, succumbed to swine flu today. With the dreaded viral attack spreading in this port city, three more positive swine flu cases were registered here a couple of days ago, including the woman, a resident of Gazuwaka area near here. Her condition turned critical and she died today. A 30-year-old person who was admitted to a private hospital with fever and respiratory problems, was also diagnosed with the H1N1 infection.

Naidu launches by-polls campaign from Tirupati

Telugu Desam president N Chandrababu Naidu on Monday launched the by-election campaign from Alipiri Tollgate, the same location where naxalites attempted to kill him in 2003.

Ex-TDP Minister Damodar Reddy passes away

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) senior leader and former Minister Muddasani Damodar Reddy passed away at NIMS hospital here today due to illness.
Mr Reddy had been ailing for the past two three years and was admitted to NIMS hospital last week, where he breathed his last this afternoon.
He was 56. He is survived by his wife and a son.
He was elected to the Assembly for four times from Kamalapur Assembly constituency in Karimnagar district since 1985. He was defeated in the 2004 elections during Telangana wave.
He was party in-charge of Huzurabad constituency in Karimnagar district.

CM condemns communal riots in old city

UNI) The Ruling Congress Party condemned communal riots which broke out in Saidabad and Madannapet areas in the old city yesterday and in some parts the state recently, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy said today.
Addressing a press conference here this evening, Mr Reddy said those who indulge in or instigate the communal riots will be dealt with sternly.
The Chief Minister said he had directed the Director General of Police V Dinesh Reddy and Hyderabad City Police Commissioner A K Khan to take up the issue seriously.

Roads for 8 ultra-hit districts: rs 2,000-cr proposals sent to centre

A K Nakpal on Sunday said that proposals have been sent to the Centre for development of roads in the eight Left Wing extremist affected districts in the State with Rs 2,000 crores.

Speaking to the media here, Nakpal said that the proposal was sent to the Centre to develop the roads in the areas in the second phase. The proposed Rs 2,000 crores would be spent for development of 30 km of roads in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, Warangal, Karimnagar and Khamam, which have border with Odisha, Chattisgarh and Maharashtra States.

Two persons test positive for swine flu in Vizag

Two persons, including a pregnant woman, were tested positive for swine flu in the city, a senior health official said today.

Young church pastor brutally murdered

A 35-year-old young church pastor was brutally murdered by unidentified persons who slit his throat with a sharp-edged weapon at Jerrela village of GK Veedhi mandal in the district today. The District Rural Police said, S Dumbu alias Bingo, of Dumbriguda mandal, settled as church pastor in Jerrela a few years ago. His wife Janaki is living with him, while their sons are studying at Chintapalle village. In the early hours, a masked man knocked door of Dumbu’s house and told him that Maoists were waiting for him to discuss an issue.

By-polls may be held in August: CEO

Chief Electoral Officer Banwar Lal on Wednesday said that by-elections for 18 assembly seats and one Parliament constituency might be held in the month of August and not in May as being speculated. However, he said that the Commission would finalise the dates for by-elections soon.

Defence Ministry dismisses ‘coup’ report

The Defence Ministry was today dismissive about a media report that the Army moved two units towards Delhi in January without informing the government, saying such exercises are conducted from time to time.

“The points raised in the report have already been clarified by the Army…such exercises are conducted by the Army from time to time,” Defence Ministry spokesperson Sitanshu Kar said in a statement.
