Pakistan: The Lost Generation

It’s morning in Lahore, the capital of Pakistan’s biggest province, and the country’s next generation is headed to school. But what children are finding when they get there is of increasing concern for those who want peace in Pakistan’s future.

For 12-year-old Fatma, school is an abandoned brickyard.

“I study at the Government Primary School in Lahore,” she explains. “I study English language, and I like it. There are no chairs. We have to sit on the ground. It’s a problem in the winter. When it rains, there is nowhere to sit.”

Minelords or Tigers or Money ?

Parts of tiger reserves in Bellary &Shimoga to be hived off for leases. HERE’S one more reason why tigers are fast disappearing from India — minelords with limitless greed for leases and a state government that accedes to their demands.

Unmindful of the declining number of India’s national animal and one of the world’s severely endangered species, the Bellary mining cartel in Karnataka has been given the green signal by the state government to enter tiger habitats and exploit the mineralrich land for lucrative exports.

Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) – Mercy for whole mankind

Prophet Muhammad was ‘Mercy for all mankind.’ The prophet’s birth and death anniversaries remind Muslims of the Life and Character that they are instructed to follow and emulate.

The U.S. Prison System: Muslims & Human Rights Violations, Dr. Aafia Siddiqui

I BEGIN with a note on this month of ours. Writing in a somewhat mentally fatigued state a week or so ago, I mistakenly jumped the gun on announcing Rabbi al-Awwal (the third month in the Muslim calendar). We are just now into the first week of the month that holds a special significance for Muslims in all corners of the world, because it was the month in which the last divinely sent Messenger and Prophet from Almighty ALLAH – Mohammed ibn Abdullah (may ALLAH’s peace and blessings be upon him) – was born.

Naushad Kashimji, Shahid Azmi, Who Next?

The serious situation which Muslim community, particularly the young Muslim generation is confronting in India, was projected years ago, by the communal forces and since then they also have started to implement their longstanding plan.

The fire which was ignited during the freedom struggle of the country, after the freedom by sprinkling the oil of the partition, the fire was further intensified to such an extent that all the methods adopted by the Muslim’s to eliminate or minimize its heat went in vain.

The gibbet of the Partition of India:

Marriage hasn’t changed anything: Shilpa

Mumbai, February 24: Actor Shilpa Shetty says marriage has not changed the dynamics of her acting career even one bit. In fact, she is quite excited about a project where she is required to do a body baring act — very much on the lines of what she did in Dostana — again.

‘Moderate’ educational antidote to radical Islam

In the Beyoglu Anadolu religious school in Istanbul, gilded Korans line the shelves and on a table lies a Turkish translation of “Eclipse”, a vampire-based fantasy romance by U.S. novelist Stephanie Meyer.

No-one inside the school would have you believe this combination of Islamic and western influences demonstrates potential to serve as a ‘moderate’ educational antidote to radical Islam.

But there is fresh outside interest in schools like this, which belong to the network known as imam-hatip.

Obama selects a voice of radical Islam

President Obama has made some terrible appointments during his first year in the White House, including now-former White House environmental adviser Van Jones, who once signed a petition accusing President George W. Bush of allowing the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks as a pretext for going to war. Jones also defended a radical Marxist group in San Francisco known as Standing Together to Organize a Revolutionary Movement.

Texas Attack…US Double-standard Terrorism

The Obama administration’s refusal to acknowledge last week’s plane attack at a government facility in Texas as terrorist shows a double-standard approach to what does and does not constitute an act of terrorism, with the label seemingly being reserved exclusively to acts committed by Muslims.

“It should definitely be classified as a terror act,” Professor Michael Greenberger, Director of the Center for Health and Homeland Security (CHHS) at the University of Maryland, told.

Israeli Demolitions of Palestinian Homes

On February 4, Nir Barakat, the mayor of Jerusalem, announced that he would accept a 2007 ruling issued by an Israeli High Court ordering the Jerusalem municipality to evacuate and seal an illegally constructed Israeli settlement building in the Silwan neighborhood of East Jerusalem.

Hindu men built mosques to draw Arab ships

Ahmedabad, February 17: Can you imagine a non-Muslim building a mosque in 21st century India? May sound impossible today. But, two far-sighted Jains built one of the earliest mosques in Gujarat, a state that has seen some of the worst post-independence communal riots.

Sujit Kumar: A veteran of Hindi and Bhojpuri films

Sujit Kumar who quietly died last week, was the traditional side hero of the Hindi movies who started his career with small roles.

He was then offered meaty roles in A class films prominent among them were Ramannad Sagar’s Ankhen where Dharmendra and Mala Sinha played the leading role.

Muslim Reservation :An idea 63 years overdue

New delhi,February 14:Mere mention of “Muslim reservation” raises hackles, but was deemed a necessity in the earliest days of the Republic before being scuttled by politicians who refused to recognise the social divisions in and economic problems of the community

No intelligence failure in Pune, says Chidambaram

Injustice with Khalid Awan in USA since 9/11.

When we first began corresponding with Khalid Awan in 2007, we had no idea why he was serving time in U.S federal prison. We soon discovered Awan was one of the first of thousands of Muslims taken prisoner in the post-9/11 U.S \”terror War\”. As the story began unfolding in our letters, we began to realize that this honest, humble and sincere man was not only innocent, but the ongoing injustice being done to him provides critical insight into the mindless, mean-spirited, bureaucratic-yes-men idiocy fueling the illegal U.S.

Gaza, One Year Later

One year after Israel’s ferocious assault, Dr. Mustafa El-Hawi, a professor at Al-Aqsa University, traveled by bus to attend a protest against the continuing Israeli siege of Gaza. As the bus passed by still-devastated areas of Beit Hanoun, in the northeast of the 25-mile-long coastal strip, the U.S.- and British-educated El-Hawi reflected on those terrifying days.

Though his faith is largely absent from the public eye, religion is believed to be playing a major role in US President Barack Obama’s life.

“[He is] a prayerful guy,” one senior official told. Although Obama has rarely showed up at church events and has not yet chosen a church in Washington, aides insist religion plays a significant role in his life.

They say he often prays in private.

Every morning, Obama receives daily devotionals, short religious services, through his BlackBerry.

Muslim Gandhi

Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan was so close to India’s peace icon Mahatma Gandhi as both shared vision and struggle, but unlike his friend, the Pashtun champion of non-violent struggle against the British rule has been almost forgotten by his people.

“He was a 6’5 giant of the human spirit, that is what attracted me to him,” Canadian filmmaker Teri McLuhan told.

She recently tried to dust off the history of the man, nicknamed “Frontier Gandhi”, and his role in India’s independence.

THE RSS- BJP’S LIMITED IDEA OF FREEDOM

By Jyotirmaya Sharma: THE shadow- boxing between the BJP and the Shiv Sena in Maharashtra is nothing but a finely choreographed charade in order to mislead the voters in Bihar and UP. There is little substance in the RSS saying that all Indians have the freedom to live anywhere they want.

It is as obvious as saying that all Indian citizens are Indians. It is true that the RSS has always been skeptical of regional and linguistic diversity, and has over the years argued for a strong Indian unitary state woven together by one language and one single national consciousness.

Why are Indian students being targeted in Australia?

I have lived in Melbourne for over seven years and there is no doubt that the situation has changed for Indians here. Denying racism in Australia is like denying casteism and dowry in India. But there is more to this issue then just blaming the Australian government.

I would like to define the term which has been used again and again, “Indian students”. Who are these students and how are so many of them here all of a sudden? When we talk of overseas students, what comes to mind are students of engineering, bio-physics, medicine, MBA, PhD or some research work.
