‘Illegal mining has its root in corruption’

New Delhi: Admitting that illegal mining is “rampant”, the Mines Ministry has blamed corruption as one of the main reasons for the menace, which not only causes revenue loss to the exchequer but also promotes lawlessness.

Google sued over mobile ‘wallet’Google says hundreds of personal gmail accounts, including those of some senior US government officials and military personnel, were hacked as a result of a massive phishing originating from China.

The account hijackings were a result of stolen passwords, likely by malware installed on victims’ computers or through victims’ responses to e-mails from malicious hackers posing as trusted sources, or what is known as phishing.

Gmail’s security systems themselves were not compromised, Google said.

Saudi women have defied the ban by launching a campaign on Facebook and Twitter under the motto ‘I will drive, starting June l7’.
Recently the authorities arrested a woman who did indeed challenge the ban in a major street of Khobar. She was released a few hours later, but her brother had to sign a statement, promising the misdemeanour would not be repeated.
While the campaign is drawing massive support from many women and a number of men, there is now a counter campaign, launched by men who threaten to use their iqal (headgear) and whip women who drive openly.

‘Corruption weds inflation’

In a novel dig at the Congress-led central government, state BJP’s ‘Utsav Prakoshth’ (festivities cell) today staged a wedding of ‘corruption’ and ‘inflation’.
