Muslim Role Model for US Immigrants

Standing up against all odds that followed the 9/11 tragedy in the United States, a young Muslim is becoming a role model for immigrants aspiring to become a success story.
“I wouldn’t say I’m a unique story,” Akbar Hossain told The Times Herald on Sunday, May 20.

“I would say I’m unique in the sense that I sought out the help. If no one responded to me seeking out help, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”

The 21-year-old arrived in the United States in September 2001, to hear the horrific news of the deadly attacks by Al-Qaeda militants.

Yet, a month later the Pentagon  managed to outdo the bigotry of Terry Jones and had been caught red handed for spearheading America’s crusade against Islam and seeking its total annihilation.

The US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff has condemned a course taught against Islam at one of America’s top military schools as “totally objectionable,” Press TV reports.

A Muslim Inside an American Priest’s House

“Ahlan Wa Sahlan” was the first greeting I received from John’s family at Minneapolis St. Paul international Airport in Minnesota, the US. Lynnell, a typical American wife (white blonde with blue eyes), and Jackson, the middle son who’s learning Arabic and wants to be a language teacher, helped me carry my heavy luggage and stuff it into their car to drive me to the University of Saint Thomas’s dormitory — where I’d begin a two-month press fellowship.

Understanding the “Other”

Victims of Vatoli waiting for justice

Nearly 3 years back, a communal riot occurred in Bhanisa of Adilabad District in which four Muslims were killed. In the neighboring village six persons including 3 children were burnt alive after killed them. The marks of identifications were also tampered.

The culprits were exonerated due to insufficient evidence. When the news of the victims of Vatoli were exposed by Media, the State Govt. turned this heinous act as an incident of elective short circuit. When the dead bodies were found, Govt. got panicky because one leg of Mahboob Khan was missing, which was found in the next room.

Sporting Sisters: How About Women’s Participation?

As one of the few men present, at the request of a volunteer, a friend of mine who contributed to the documentary, I found myself attending the “Sporting Sisters” program which, in light of the upcoming Olympics, took to investigating the extent to which Muslim women in East London part-took in sports.

Upon arrival at the venue, a small display illustrating women’s wider participation in society over the years illustrated how, for example, equal pay has continued and remains a target to be achieved.

Is Mamata wooing Muslims with panchayat polls in mind?

With Muslims comprising nearly 30 percent of the state’s 92 million population, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee continues to dole out largesse to Muslims. However, many, especially the opposition Left, alleges that the sops are intended to woo the community ahead of next year’s panchayat polls.

Even though her last month’s announcement that the state government would provide a monthly honorarium to imams drew flak from the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Banerjee went on to declare an honorarium for muezzins of mosques to be paid through the Waqf Board this week.

Jobs abroad: How to use your failure as a tool to get hired

The interviewing process is the time when your potential employer would be interested in finding out what all you have accomplished in previous jobs as well as what all you have failed at. Many candidates hide their previous job failures, fearing rejection. Can acknowledging previous job failures portray you as an incompetent candidate, not fit enough to join the company you are being interviewed for?

The answer may not be a simple ‘yes’ and would be evaluated in the wider context, believe experts.

Obama Mystery Girl

HE HAS modelled himself as a cool, calculated leader of the free world. But at the age of 22 Barack Obama had a strong “ sexual warmth” that overwhelmed his girlfriend at the time, according to a new book that identifies her for the first time.

Why the Congress & BJP are having sleepless nights

The squabbles we are seeing today over the election of the next President will be nothing compared to the all-out war ignited by a fragmented verdict after the 2014 general election, feels T V R Shenoy.

If George Orwell were alive today he might have written: ‘All MPs are equal. Some MLAs are more equal than others.’

The vice-president of India is chosen by members of Parliament. But the Constitution mandates that members of legislative assemblies have a say in choosing the President.

NRIs Beware! Wearing Gold jewellery can put you in trouble
