Urdu University was founded on the basis of promoting Urdu language and imparting higher education through the medium of Urdu to link it with job oriented courses. India, Turkey leads in 143.3 mn false & duplicate Facebook a/c

An estimated 14.3 crore accounts on the popular social networking site Facebook may be false or duplicate, with a major chunk of them coming from developing markets like India and Turkey.

Facebook, which boasts of 119 crore accounts globally, in a US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filing said it
estimates up to 7.9 per cent accounts being duplicate, and up to 2.1 per cent and up to 1.2 per cent accounts being user-misclassified and un-desirable, respectively.

Saudi women ‘drive-in’ falters amid threats

Saudi women scrapped a “drive-in” today and opted for an open-ended campaign after the authorities vowed to punish any of them who get behind the wheel in defiance of a ban.

Activists had originally taken to social media networks to call on women across the ultra-conservative Muslim kingdom to drive their cars on Saturday to challenge Saudi law.

But despite warnings from the authorities that action would be taken against any women who drive, at least two of
them responded to the call and took the wheel early this morning.

Masjid Husaini situated at Road number 2 Banjara Hills got Rs. 2.18 crore as compensation for a piece of land admeasuring 333 Sq. yards which is proposed to be acquired by GHMC for road widening. GHMC was claiming its ownership for the past 40 years. The Mutawalli (custodian) of the Masjid fought the legal matter and made GHMC bow down to his terms and condition. Pomegranates help burn fat and increase blood flow

(ANI): A new study has found that pomegranates can help you unclog your arteries by burning fat and increasing your blood flow.

According to the study, which was conducted at Barcelona’s Catalan Institute for Cardiovascular Sciences, the “superfruit” contains antioxidants, called polyphenols, that keep arteries free of fat, the Daily Express reported.

Polyphenols also help arteries expand and contract to maintain blood flow and keep them from hardening, which is the leading cause of heart attacks. (ANI)

(ANI): The ancient Chinese practice of acupuncture could be used to treat anxiety and depression instead of drugs, according to a new study.

It is best known as a treatment for controlling our aches and pains but few of us know that acupuncture can also be used to treat anxiety and depression.

The research by the British Acupuncture Council and the charity Anxiety UK, revealed that only 10 percent of sufferers use acupuncture to deal with their anxiety, whereas almost half (49.2 per cent) are prescribed medication, the Daily Express reported.

150 minutes of walking-a-week `could help save thousands of lives`

A new report has stated that if everyone, in England alone, walked for the recommended 150 minutes every week it could help save 37,000 lives each year.

The reports also stated that it could help prevent 6,700 cases of breast cancer, stop 4,700 people getting colorectal cancer and can lead to nearly 300,000 fewer cases of type 2 diabetes.

Ciaran Devane, chief executive of Macmillan Cancer Support, told the BBC that for cancer patients, physical activity could help manage some debilitating consequences of treatment and can even help cut the chance of some cancers returning.

A loved-up couple, a 98-year-old man and his 90-year-old lover, have tied the knot after dating for 30 long years.

Jean Reed took widower Ted Parsons’ hand in marriage after the 98-year-old Second World War veteran proposed to her earlier this year, the Daily Express reported.

Parsons grew close to Reed after his wife of 50 years suddenly passed away in the 1980s.

The couple, who have been living together for the last 20 years, walked down the aisle arm-in-arm during a ceremony in front of family and friends.

Walking one hour per day cuts risk of developing breast cancer by 14 pc

A new study by an Indian origin researcher has revealed that women can cut their chances of developing breast cancer by walking for an hour each day.

The American Cancer Society, which commissioned the study, involved 73,615 postmenopausal women, of whom 4,760 were diagnosed with breast cancer during a 17-year follow-up, the Scotsman reported.

It was found that this moderate activity was linked with a 14 per cent lower risk of the disease compared to women who were least active.

AIDS initiative may have prevented 600,000 HIV infections in India over decade: Study

Around 600,000 people in India may have been saved from becoming infected with HIV over ten years with the help of a programme funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, according to a study.

In an evaluation of the 2003-launched AIDS project Avahan, researchers from the School of Public Health at Imperial College, London and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine estimated that Avahan prevented more than half of the infections that would have occurred without its intervention.
