‘Love Jihad’ controversy: Case against parents of girl

A case of assault and threat to murder has been registered against the parents of the 22-year-old girl who was at the centre of the ‘love jihad’ controversy and has gone back on her statement that she was gang-raped and forcibly converted.

Two days after the girl claimed that there is a threat to her life from her parents, police registered a case under section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code against them, SSP Meerut Omkar Singh said.

Researchers found that compared to non-lonely people, lonely people spend more time on Facebook.

Lonely individuals who are shy or have low social support may turn to Facebook to compensate for their lack of social
skills and/or social networks in face-to-face settings, the study found.

Hayeon Song, an assistant professor of communication at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, analysed data from
relevant existing studies to conclude that there is a relationship between Facebook use and loneliness.

Study reveals 33 pc women experience sexual violence in conflict

A new study has revealed that around 33 percent of women suffer sexual violence during and after a period of conflict and around 29 percent reported that their husbands or partners were the perpetrators.

The study also established that total of 10 percent women said that the culprit was someone other than an intimate partner and only 0.3 percent identified an armed combatant.

Abuse growing as thousands flee Myanmar violence: UN

The thousands of Rohingya Muslims still flooding out of Myanmar’s Rakhine state two years after violence erupted there are facing increasing abuse and exploitation, the UN refugee agency warned today. Two waves of deadly communal violence between Buddhists and Muslims in Rakhine in 2012 left some 200 people dead and around 140,000 displaced, mainly Rohingya.

“Two years after inter-communal violence erupted in Myanmar’s Rakhine state, thousands of people are still leaving
by boat from the Bay of Bengal,” UNHCR spokesman Adrian Edwards told reporters in Geneva.

TrackingPoint said in a statement that when paired with wearable technology, first precision-guided firearm (PGF) provides unprecedented benefits to shooters, such as the ability to shoot from positions that provide exceptional cover, the Washington Times reported.
