No more exam stress

Hyderabad, December 26: If all goes well, students appearing for the Class X and Intermediate examinations from next academic year onwards are likely to be spared from the unnecessary fear, anxiety and stress caused by the examinations.

Instead, the examinations will be reframed to strengthen their knowledge and enable them to face any examination in future with confidence.

The State government recently appointed an expert committee to suggest reforms in the SSC and Intermediate public examinations which, of late, have become a stressful affair for many students.

10-15 mln new jobs in 2011: Study

New Delhi, December 26: Nearly 10-15 million jobs are expected to be created next year on account of rapid economic growth in the country, an Assocham study said today.

As much as 75 per cent of these new jobs will require vocational training, the industry body said, adding if not addressed properly can lead to a slowdown in the country’s economic growth.

Assocham Secretary General D S Rawat said the year 2011 is likely to be a boom for skilled worker in IT and ITES, biotechnology and services sector.

355 model schools to be set up in the next academic year

Hyderabad, December 26: State Education Department in collaboration with central government has given permission to set up 355 model schools. These model schools will be in the mode of Kendrya schools in which each school will be sanctioned a grant of Rs. 3.02 crore while 75 lakh will be issued yearly for administrative purposes.

It is said that State government would bear 25 percent out of the total expenditure. Funds of Rs 1200 crore are likely to be sanctioned by the central government. The medium of instruction for the schools with 6th to 12th standard will be English.

Siasat Talent Search exam: results announced

Hyderabad, December 26: 13 Siasat Talent Search Examination was conducted on November 28, 2010 for X class students in 35 centres across AP by Siasat daily in collaboration with MS Education Centre. 13000 students participated in the exam. The results of the exam have been announced.

The state toppers are Syed Murtuza Hashmi, Little Flower high school Hyderabad, E Rakesh, Krishnaveni Talent school Karvakurti and Numan bin Mohammad Mujahid, Hyderabad Public School, Hyderabad.

Textbooks printed in India cost less: Bangladeshi official

Dhaka, December 25: Printing of Bangladeshi school textbooks in India cost nearly half of the expense incurred on printing these at home, an official said.

The cost of a book printed abroad was Tk23 ($0.32) whereas the government had to spend Tk44 for a book printed in Bangladesh last year. But the quality of the books printed in Bangladesh is not as good as those printed abroad, said Mostafa Kamal Uddin, chairman of the National Commission for Text Books (NCTB).

EFLU students divided into two groups

Hyderabad, December 25: Students of the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) have reportedly divided into two groups, Telangana and Seemandhra. This development just when university authorities are likely to issue a notification for student council elections by month-end nudges up the temperature on campus.

In a disturbing development, it has come to light that a student hailing from Tamil Nadu and having the backing of students from Andhra and Rayalaseema, was beaten up by those supporting the Telangana movement.

OU’s first woman registrar resigns

Hyderabad, December 25: Osmania University registrar Prof C Beena resigned her post on Thursday. She was the first woman registrar of the university.

Speaking to mediamen here on Thursday, Beena said that she resigned to her post in view of her increased institutional commitments.

BJP has no right to attack prime minister, says Sibal

New Delhi, December 20: With continued deadlock over the opposition’s demand for a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) probe into the 2G spectrum scandal, Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal said Monday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has no right to attack Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and it should rather “look inward”.

He criticised BJP leader Arun Jaitley for accusing the prime minister of being defensive and hiding facts on 2G spectrum allocation.

Inter-school painting contest winners get UN awards

New Delhi, December 19: Winners of an inter-school painting competition, which aimed at promoting awareness of hunger and malnutrition issues among the youth, were awarded by the UN in the capital Saturday.

Hosted by the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), hundreds of students from 18 schools in the National Capital Region — comprising Delhi and its suburban towns in adjoining Uttar Pradesh and Haryana — participated in the event.

China welcomes introduction of Mandarin in schools

New Delhi, December 17: Welcoming India’s decision to introduce Mandarin studies in schools, China Thursday offered its help in implementing the programme.

‘China will offer support for training Chinese language teachers and providing Chinese language training materials,’ said a joint communique issued by the two countries during Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao’s India visit.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will introduce Mandarin starting from Class 6 from the new academic session of 2011-12.

Punjab students hail Australian visa review

Chandigarh, December 17: Students aspiring to study in Australia and overseas education consultants in Punjab Thursday hailed the proposed relaxations announced by the Australian government in the student visa norms.

‘The new rules, when they are implemented, will cover 38 different countries, including India. They have upgraded India as a lesser risk country. Now Indian students would find it easier to meet the financial requirements and we hope that Australia will again become a hot education stop for them,’ Naresh Gulati, CEO of Oceanic Consultants here, told IANS.

Delhi nursery admissions to balance point, lottery systems

New Delhi, December 17: Delhi government has formulated guidelines for nursery admissions and it will be a balance of both the point and lottery systems, an official said Wednesday.

‘The admission guidelines for unaided public schools will be announced Wednesday evening as it has been formulated. The government has tried to balance both the point and lottery systems in the new guidelines,’ a Delhi government official said.

The government had sought the opinion of the law department before finalising the guidelines, the official said.

‘Ill health’ forces B Tech student to end life

Hyderabad, December 17: ‘Depressed’ over his deteriorating health, a B Tech student ended his life in Old City on Thursday. He hanged himself to death from the ceiling fan in his house, police said. The deceased, Shaik Kareemullah (21) of Moghulpura, was a third year engineering student of Annamacharya Institute of Technology and Sciences (AITS) at Hayathnagar.

His father, Anwarullah and other family members went to their relative’s house few days back. Kareemullah’s brother, Sadiq, came to the house this morning and knocked on the door but there was no response.

Delhi govt guidelines for nursery admission

New Delhi, December 16: Delhi government on Wednesday issued guidelines for nursery class admission, giving a greater say to private schools in framing the procedure and eligibility criteria for enrolling the children.

Announcing the broad guidelines, Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said each private school will be free to frame their guidelines and eligibility criteria for admission in nursery classes provided they follow the broad contours of the Right to Education Act.

Children among 200 ill after school meal

Kolkata, December 13: Over 200 people, most of them children, are being treated for food poisoning after eating a meal served by a school in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district, an official said Monday.

Darikjungle Banamali Vidyabhavan High School in Sandeshkhali-II block had served fried rice and gram after the annual sports meet Friday.

Online correction facility in scholarship applications

Hyderabad, December 11: Social Welfare Department has provided a unique facility for correction of errors in the scholarship applications through epass log in. As a result students need not have to visit offices or colleges again and again to change or correct the information filled in the application instead they can see their submitted applications by creating a password on user id or email id from December 19. If necessary they can change or correct the information. The scrutiny will begin from December 20.
