ISB records 22 percent increase in placement offers

Hyderabad, April 06: The premier Indian School of Business (ISB) here has registered a 22 percent increase in placement offers this year while the average salary for its graduates has gone up 10-20 percent, its dean said Wednesday.

The business school, ranked among the top 20 in the world, also witnessed a 35 percent growth in international offers.

A total of 310 companies made 661 offers to 552 students who participated in the lateral hiring process that began in January this year. The class of 2011 had 569 students.

Punjab to fill all vacant posts of college Principals

Chandigarh, April 06: The Punjab government is planning to fill within two months all the vacant posts of college principals by promotion and direct recruitment.

Presiding over the meeting of Principals of all government colleges in the state here, Education Minister Sewa Singh Sekhwan today said the Punjab Government is committed to improving the education standard in government colleges.

He said that seniority list of lecturers is being finalised and within two months eligible lecturers would be promoted as Principals.

31 students caught cheating in Uttarakhand

Dehradun, April 06: A total of 31 students were caught cheating in the 10th and 12th class exams organised by the Uttarakhand state education board this year, officials said today.

Nearly two lakh students took the exams for 10th and 12th classes which ended yesterday, they said.

ICET coaching by Siasat

Teach blind students, court orders brawling Ramjas students

New Delhi, April 05: Teach blind students for an hour a week for one year – this was the order of the Delhi High Court Tuesday to two Delhi University final year students of Ramjas College in exchange for quashing a police complaint against them for being involved in a group clash two years ago.

Justice Hima Kohli in her order said: “One year service to visually challenged students in Delhi University campus. Teach them for one hour in a week, but you have to do this for full one year.”

Sibal rejects call for RTE monitoring body

New Delhi, April 04: Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal Friday rejected the proposal by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) for a grievance redressal mechanism for the implementation of the Right to Education (RTE) Act.

The NCPCR, which monitors the implementation of the RTE Act, has been calling for such a mechanism to tackle the large variety of complaints coming in from all over the country.

Mizoram, Tripura beat terror past to become literacy front-runners

Agartala/Aizawl, April 04: Tripura and Mizoram — the two northeastern states once ravaged by terrorism — have successfully become front-runners in India’s literacy movement.

According to provisional data for the 2011 census, literacy level is 91.58 percent in Mizoram and 87.75 percent in Tripura. They are only behind Kerala (93.91 percent), which continues to occupy the top position in the literacy chart. The national literacy rate is 74.04 percent.

In Mizoram, the second most literate state in the country, literacy rate has gone up from 88.49 percent to 91.58 percent.

NTR Trust to provide free training to unemployed youth

Hyderabad, April 4: NTR Trust will provide free employment training to youth. Informing this Mr. Metaparti Venkat, CEO of the NTR Trust said that the Trust has decided to provide three months vocational training to youth who have discontinued their studies and were unemployed. He said free boarding and lodging facilities would be provided to youth who will undergo training.

He further said that the training programmes would commence from April 10 and the Trust would also make efforts to get employment for the trained youth.

Sibal stresses on spreading distance education

New Delhi, April 02: Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal Saturday said the government was aiming to get at least seven million students, largely from the underprivileged sections, enrolled in distance education programme to make education inclusive.

In a message at the convocation function of the Indira Gandhi National Open University, Sibal said that distant education can help in achieving the gross enrollment ratio of 30 percent by 2020.

EAMCET exams postponed to March 22

Hyderabad, April 01: Andhra Pradesh government today postponed the Engineering, Agriculture, Medicine Common Entrance Test (EAMCET), scheduled to be held on May 8 to May 22.

“The Election Commission made the announcement regarding bypolls to Kadapa Lok Sabha constituency and Pulivendula assembly seat on May 8. After considering all aspects, we decided to postpone the EAMCET from May 8 to 22,” a top government official told reporters here.

EAMCET is hugely popular in the state with lakhs of people taking the test.

ICET-2011: Free coaching for minority communities

Hyderabad, March 31: According to Dr. S A Shukoor Director CEDM, Centre for Educational development for Minority communities under the aegis of Andhra Pradesh Minority Welfare Department, is conducting free coaching for minority candidates (Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist and Parsi) who want to appear in ICET-2011.

25 candidates of SGT Urdu provisionally selected under DSC

Hyderabad, March 31: As per the orders of Andhra Pradesh High Court and State Administrative Tribunal, provisional selection of 25 candidates has been made for SGT (Urdu) posts under DSC 1997 presided by Collector and District Magistrate.

According to the notification issued by the District Educational Officer (DEO) Hyderabad all the selected candidates are requested to approach office of the DEO Hyderabad on March 31 at 11 am for counseling along with their original certificates and hall tickets.

Re-exam for 24 inter students on April 9

Hyderabad, March 30: The Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) has decided to conduct a re-examination for 24 students whose answer scripts were damaged in an accident at Jangaon in Warangal on March 20. The re-examination will be held on April 9.

According to the BIE officials, a postal van which was carrying the answer scripts met with an accident near Jangaon in Warangal in the wee hours of March 20.

New Delhi, March 30: The Board of Governors of the Medical Council of India (MCI) has proposed major changes in the undergraduate curriculum and training programme that would create an “Indian Medical Graduate,” who will have necessary competence to assume his or her role as a healthcare provider.

Rs 51.66 cr released for school uniforms

Chandigarh, March 29: Haryana government has released over Rs 51 crore to provide school uniforms to the students upto elementary level for the academic year 2011-12.

“School Management Committees (SMCs) have been constituted in all elementary level schools in the state to decide about providing school uniforms to the students of their respective school,” Haryana Education Minister Geeta Bhukkal said in a statement here.

280 school girls run away to protest

Phulbani (Orissa), March 28: About 280 students of a residential girls high school left the hostel premises today protesting against the alleged mismanagement, irregularities and misbehaviour by their teachers, officials said.

The girls told reporters here, that the school’s physical education teacher along with the head mistress of the school misbehaved with a section of students repeatedly during last month over some trivial matters.

AMU founder’s 113th death anniversary observed

Aligarh, March 27: The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Sunday observed the 113th death anniversary of its founder, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan.

A Quran Khwani (recitation) was organised in the university mosque after morning prayers and Vice Chancellor Prof. P.K. Abdul Azis and Registrar V.K. Abdul Jaleel paid their tributes by laying flowers on Syed’s grave situated in the mosque premises.

Other university officials, teachers and students also participated in the solemn ceremony.

Jodhpur, March 24: The Board of Technical Education, Rajasthan has announced that the Rajasthan Pre Engineering Test (RPET) – 2011 will be conducted on May 19, 2011.

Post-study, work no longer option in UK

NEW DELHI, March 24: Tougher entry criteria, limits on work entitlements and the closure of the post-study route are among the latest changes to the UK student visa system announced on Tuesday.

UK Border Agency regional director Chris Dix on Wednesday said students going to the UK for a degree will no longer be allowed a two-year timeline to look for job opportunities after their course ends. This is one of the major changes to the UK immigration policy. The Tier-I (post-study work) route will be closed from April 2012.

American universities duping Indian students

New Delhi, March 24: Tri-Valley University is only one of many dubious and unaccredited universities in the US that are duping foreign students — especially Indians — reported a leading US journal on higher education. The report was based on an investigation carried out after the TVU scam in January, involving Indian students who were trapped in the US, following the university getting implicated in immigration fraud charges.
