Demand for new academy for regional languages

Ranchi, April 20: Political parties today favoured an academy for regional languages to promote and protect languages spoken in Jharkhand.

The demand was made at an all-party meeting chaired by Chief Minister Arjun Munda, who promised to look into it.

Senior BJP leader Dipak Prakash said a Regional Local Language Academy would help protect and promote Santhali, Kuruk, Mundari, Ho, Khadia (all tribal dialects), Nagpuri, Khota, Panchpargania and Kurmali.

JMM central committee secretary Suprio Bhattacharya said Bangla and Santhali should be accorded the status of second language.

Lucknow University teachers to declare assets

Lucknow, April 20:In a bid to bring transparency in the education system, the Lucknow University Teachers Association (LUTA) said Tuesday it will make public assets and properties of its office bearers.

“The move intends to support a crusade against corruption and to put the university as a whole as a torchbearer of the society in the fight against corruption,” said LUTA statement.

“LUTA also demands that the varsity’s administrative heads should also support the crusade against corruption,” it said.

Semester system unsatisfactory: Delhi University teachers

New Delhi, April 19: Voicing dissatisfaction at the semester system for all courses in Delhi University (DU) proposed from the next academic session, a teacher’s body of the varsity Tuesday said the system spells academic worries for them and tough times for students.

“Semester system in other countries does not mean having exams twice a year. Its logic is entirely different from that of DU at the moment, which is simply to divide the annual studies and examination into two,” said Vineeta Chandra, a DU teacher.

IGNOU admissions- July 2011 Session

Hyderabad, April 19: Admissions are open into the Master and Bachelor degrees, diploma and certificate programmes for the July session, in Indira Gandhi National Open University.

Hyderabad, April 19: According to the Registrar incharge English and Foreign Languages University Hyderabad, English Proficiency Test (EPT) will be held on May 29 by All India English Language Testing Authority.

He further informed that admissions are in progress in B.A (honors), English , Arabic, French, Japanese, Russian, B.Ed, (English) , M.Ed, two years, MA English, Hindi, Linguistics, TESL, Media and communication, English Literature, Cultural Studies, MCJ, two years, M A Arabic , French, Spanish, PGDTE/A and M.Phil, PHD programmes.

CBSE announces AIEEE dates

Chennai, April 19: The CBSE has released the dates for the All India Engineering Entrance Examination. Both the online and pen-paper mode exams will be held on May 1, Sunday.

The results of the test are used by the National Institutes of Technology across the country and several other engineering colleges as a selection criteria for admitting students.

Wrong question paper provided for BBA students

Vellore, April 19: The fourth semester Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) students of various colleges in the Thiruvalluvar University area in Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Cuddalore and Villupuram districts were in for a shock when they sat for their first paper (Materials Management) university examination on Monday since the question paper given to them contained questions on Financial Management, for which the examination was to be held on April 28.

Gitam University conducts entrance test for admission into engineering courses

Hyderabad, April 18: Gitam University is going to conduct an online Gitam entrance test from April 16 to May 5 on National level.

University Vice Chancellor G Subramaniam stated in a press conference that this test will be conducted for 10 branches of B.Tech and 13 branches of M.Tech.

The results for the test conducted in Hyderabad and various places across the country will be declared on May 12.

Candidates who succeed to secure minimum marks would be given admission. University is going to start two new engineering branches in Hyderabad and Vishakapatnam.

Siasat conducts mock test for B.Ed, D.Ed and polytechnic entrance

Hyderabad, April 18: Siasat daily conducted a mock entrance exam for the candidates appearing for EDCET (for B.Ed), DIETCET (for D.Ed) and CEEP (for polytechnic) in order to make them aware of the exam paper and for practice of OMR sheet at Siasat Golden Jubilee Hall.

A large number of students participated in the mock exam.

UGC – NET Coaching at MANUU

Hyderabad, April 17: The UGC-NET Coaching Centre at Maulana Azad National Urdu University will arrange the coaching class for the NET exam scheduled to be held on 26th June 2011.

During the month of May 2011 the University will conduct intensive coaching classes in the compulsory subject (General Studies and Teaching Aptitude – Paper I) and for Papers II and III in the following subjects: English, Urdu, Hindi, Arabic, Persian, Public Administration, Education, History, Political Science, Sociology, Management and Mass Communication.

CEEP exams: Last date extended

HYDERABAD, APRIL 17: The last date for sale and receipt of applications for the common entrance examination for admission to polytechnics (CEEP-2011) being conducted by the State Board of Technical Education and Training has been extended to April 21 from the earlier April 18.

Secretary State Board of Technical Education and Training has appealed to the interested candidates to benefit from the date extension facility and submit their applications on time.

Hyderabad, April 15:National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR) University of Law, Hyderabad has announced its admission of Post Graduate Diploma Courses for the current year 2011-12.

Result of All India PMT prelims declared; 26,060 qualify

New Delhi, April 14: The result of All India Pre-Medical and Pre-Dental Entrance Preliminary Examination, held on April 3 was declared today.

26,060 candidates have qualified for appearing in the final stage examination which would be held on May 15, a CBSE statement said.

In all, out of 2,21,867 registered candidates, 2,07,590 candidates appeared in the Preliminary Stage Examination.

The candidates can access the result on CBSE’s website www.aipmt.nic.in and www.cbseresults.nic.in, the statement said.

B.Ed, D.Ed. Polytechnic entrance coaching programme

Hyderabad, April 14: Polytechnic entrance CEEP is scheduled to be held on April 30. Candidates who have passed or appeared SSC can submit forms till April 18.

D.ED entrance DIETCET has been postponed to May 9 from the previous date April 24. Intermediate candidates are eligible for the entrance.

Candidates who have passed or appeared degree final year exam are eligible for EdCET entrance for B.Ed course, which is scheduled to be held on June 24.

Jamia to introduce OMR application forms

New Delhi, April 13: Jamia Millia Islamia University here will introduce OMR application forms for its engineering and MBA courses to deal with an increasing number of applications. These forms are processed on computers and hence are faster.

“Keeping in view the increasing number of applications for admissions to various courses on offer at Jamia Millia Islamia, the university has introduced OMR application forms in few of its courses starting 2011,” an official from the university said.

Washington University launches Urdu website

Washington, April 13: St. Louis based Washington University has launched an Urdu website featuring for the first time a web-based Nastaliq font that displays whether or not it is installed on the user’s computer.

Called Intermediate Urdu (http://urdu.wustl.edu/) the website is most useful for people with “a basic knowledge of Urdu or those who have taken two semester of language course in any university system,” Indian-American principal investigator M. J. Warsi told the sources.

Jamia admits 27 homeless kids in schools

New Delhi, April 13: The Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) University has admitted 27 homeless children in primary schools run by it in Delhi, an official said on Tuesday.

The children, who were admitted Monday, belong to Ummeed Aman Ghar, functioning under the Centre for Equity Study, a welfare organization that provides food, shelter and education to Delhi’s homeless street children and night shelter to the destitute.

According to varsity officials, the children have been exempted from paying any school fee.

Students apologise to Panjab varsity teacher over complaint

Chandigarh, April 12: Following a legal notice served by their teacher, Panjab University’s history students Monday went on the backfoot and said they did not intend to hurt the sentiments of anyone in their complaint.

Surinder Singh, a faculty member in the history department of the university, slapped a legal notice against 17 students of his department asking them to take back their complaint against him or face legal consequences.

The students in a written complaint with the university dean alleged that Singh had ‘deliberately’ failed them for the second time in the same subject.

Panel gets time to study 44 deemed universities’ replies

New Delhi, April 12: The Supreme Court on Monday gave six weeks time to an expert panel to study the replies of 44 deemed universities facing de-recognition due to deficiencies in their institutions.

The three-member panel is likely to be reconstituted soon as one of its members withdrew from it.

The apex court bench of Justice Dalveer Bhandari and Justice Deepak Verma gave the committee six weeks to go into the responses by 44 deemed universities facing de-recognition on the recommendation of Professor P.N. Tandon Committee.

Dhumal lays stone of engineering college

Shimla, April 12: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal on Sunday laid the foundation stone of an engineering college in the apple belt of Shimla district. It will be constructed with the financial assistance of a hydropower major.

A government spokesperson said the institute, named after former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, would initially start diploma courses from July.

“From the next academic year, the institute would start degree engineering courses too,” he said.

Supreme Court slams lapses in medical college admissions

New Delhi, April 12: In an apparent expression of its exasperation over the state of medical education in the country, the Supreme Court slammed the authorities for ignoring the admission procedures and virtually selling the seats.

“The best way for medical test (admission) is to put the seats to auction and whosoever bids successfully should be awarded admission,” sarcastically said the apex court bench of Justice B. Sudershan Reddy and Justice S.S. Nijjar on Friday.

IGNOU launches online programme on Himalayan Ecosystems

New Delhi, April 12: The School of Extension and Development Studies (SOEDS) and Chair for Sustainable Development (CSD) at the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) have launched an online Leadership Programme on Himalayan Ecosystems (LPHECO).

The programme caters to scientists and policymakers working in the areas of agriculture, rural development, environmental science and sustainable development.

Dr. Karan Singh, Member of Parliament, launched the programme, which is of minimum one-month duration and maximum six-month duration, at the EMPC Studio-II at the University.
