Jamia Millia Islamia’s new quota norms

New Delhi, May 12: Getting its rules in line with the new status, Jamia Millia Islamia has issued fresh norms of reservation that allow 50 per cent seats to be kept aside for Muslim students, while the remaining are open for students belonging to the general category. The new reservation rules will be applicable from the 2011-12 academic session.

This follows an amendment in Statute 39 of the Jamia Millia Islamia Act, 1988 in pursuance of the February, 22 order of the National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions (NCMEI) that granted this Central university a minority status.

Free vocational courses by Siasat daily and MDF

No helmets, no classes for MP students

Bhopal, May 11: Students riding their two-wheelers to colleges in Madhya Pradesh will now be denied entry if they are not wearing helmets, the state’s education minister said Tuesday.

“We have issued circulars to all colleges in state to insure every student who rides a two-wheeler wears a helmet,” Education Minister Laxmikant Sharma told reporters here.

The rule will be applicable to all colleges, government and private engineering institutes, polytechnics and other educational institutions in the state.

SC refuses to stay reconduct of AIEEE

New Delhi, May 10: The AIEEE test will be held on Wednesday as scheduled with the Supreme Court on Tuesday refusing to stay government’s decision to hold the examination again for candidates who could not appear in the May 1 test due to question paper leak.

A bench of justices DK Jain and HL Dattu declined to interfere with the Delhi High Court order which had refused to grant stay on the May 2 government notification announcing re-conduct of AIEEE (All India Engineering Entrance Examination) by the CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education).

Aligarh Muslim University to reopen May 13

Aligarh, May 10: The Aligarh Muslim University, which shut down April 30 following violence among students, has decided to reopen on May 13 and also open the hostel for its final year students, an official said Monday.

It will open hostel facilities to final year B. Tech and all final year students of other faculties from May 13. Earlier, the university had notified May 16 as the date of reopening in a phased manner. The examination of all these courses will commence from May 18.

CBSE mulling over online route to medical, engineering institutions

Lucknow, May 09: Taking lessons from the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) 2011 paper leak, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is seriously mulling over an online route to admissions in medical and engineering institutions.

Verifying this here on Monday, CBSE chairman, Vinit Joshi, said, “Online tests and admissions are a way of life in the developed world. In fact this year, we conducted the AIEEE exam online as well though on a pilot basis. The experience has been satisfying and appears to be promising.”

14,000 school teachers recruitment

New Delhi, May 09: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said Sunday 14,000 new posts of school teachers have been created in a bid to ensure proper implementation of the Right to Education Act in the national capital.

“This will also go a long way in enhancing job opportunities,” she told a public rally in west Delhi’s Tri Nagar area.

“A number of new universities have also been commissioned and a separate Women’s Technical University would be commissioned soon,” added the chief minister.

New PG courses at Urdu varsity

Hyderabad, April 07: The Moulana Azad Nat ional Urdu University (MANUU) has started three new courses at the post-graduate level and two new research programmes, namely MCA, MSc(Maths) and MCom besides MPhil and PhD in Persian and business management.

Three new certificate courses in Amoozish Urdu, proficiency in Persian and Unani pharmacy have also been introduced.

JNTU-H to hold ECET on May 20

Hyderabad, April 07: The Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad is conducting ECET- 2011 for diploma holders and B.Sc graduates in mathematics for lateral entry admission into engineering and pharmacy courses on May 20 from 10 am to 1 pm in 43 test centres in the state. In a statement, Avula Damodaram, convener, ECET said that as many as 25,134 students have registered for the test. The hall-tickets have been dispatched through post on Friday. Students who did not receive the hall-tickets can download duplicate hall-tickets from the university website www.injuh.ac.

Delhi University admission process to begin June 15

New Delhi, May 06: With no application forms, the admission process in Delhi University (DU) this year will begin June 15 with the announcement of the first cut-off list, an official of the Dean Student Welfare (DSW) office said.

“This year there will be no application forms which students earlier used to submit to colleges of their choice, nor any common admission form. The colleges will straightaway declare the first cut off list and the aspirants can take admission thereafter,” the official said.

Bomb maker’s plea to sit for engineering exam disallowed

Panaji, May 06: A request by a 22-year-old engineering student, accused of making a bomb for a right wing Hindu group, to appear for his college examination has been turned down Friday by a Goa court.

District and Sessions Judge Bimba Thaly disallowed an application filed by Dhananjay Ashtekar, a member of the Sanatan Sanstha (SS) and one of dozen people accused of making an improvised explosive device (IED)- or crude bomb – to be planted on Diwali eve a couple of years back.

AIEEE absentees to get another chance

Hyderabad, May 5: AIEEE will be conducted once again on May 11 however it should be noted that only those students who did not turn up for the examination on May 1 will be permitted to appear for the exam.

Earlier Central Board of Secondary Education had decided to conduct the exam on May 8 but as it would have coincided with the other exams therefore after revision it was decided to conduct the exam on May 11.

New Delhi, May 02: Giving a big boost to Commerce graduates aspiring to pursue a career in teaching, the government has decided to allow them to appear for the mandatory test for appointment as teachers from standard six to eight.

As per qualification norms for teachers issued last year under the Right to Education Act, Bachelore of Arts and Bachelor of Science graduates were only eligible for appointment of teachers.

AIEEE exam delayed after paper leak

New Delhi, May 01: The start of a national-level examination taken by 12 lakh students to determine entry to engineering colleges across the country was delayed by nearly three hours after the paper was allegedly leaked in Uttar Pradesh and sold for Rs.6 lakh each.”Fresh set of questions were distributed to the students and the exam was delayed by three hours,” Cnetral Board of Secondary Examination (CBSE) chairman Vineet Joshi said.

AMU campus peaceful, students leaving for home

Aligarh, May 01:A day after the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) administration announced the varsity’s sine die closure following violence among students, the campus was peaceful and students were slowly returning home, an official said Sunday.

Of the eight students hurt in the free-for-all Friday night, five were discharged Saturday while two – Adil and Obaidullah – were still undergoing treatment at the Medical College hospital. Their condition was stable, the official said.

AIEEE exam held after three hour delay

New Delhi, May 01: Over 12 lakh students across the country were finally able to appear for the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) Sunday, after a question paper leak delayed the exam by three hours, an official said.

The paper is conducted in two halves over the day. While the first paper is for bachelor of engineering (B.E.) aspirants, the second paper is for students wanting to pursue a bachelor of architecture (B.Arch) course.

As per the original schedule, the first paper was to begin at 9.30 a.m. and the second at 2 p.m.

B.Com graduate can now apply for teaching

New Delhi, May 01: In order to pursue more young blood towards teaching, Government has decided to allow B.Com graduates to appear for the mandatory test for appointment as teachers from standard six to eight.

Metro Rail project to create 2 lakh job opportunities

Hyderabad, May 1: Metro Rail project is expected to create 2 lakh jobs either directly or indirectly. This dream will become a reality once the project work gets started.
