States NOT ready to join new IIT-JEE format

As the government moves ahead with its plan for a common engineering entrance test, a majority of states at a meeting of education ministers Tuesday refused to join the new IIT-JEE entrance format for institutions run by them.

A proposed new format for the Indian Institutes of Technology-Joint Entrance Exam (IIT-JEE) merges it with All India Engineering Entrance Exam (AIEEE) and states have been given freedom to decide on joining the common entrance exam.

Girls top UP Class 12 exams

Two girls from the same college jointly topped the Class 12 exams of the Uttar Pradesh Intermediate Board, results of which were announced Tuesday. Girls outperformed the boys by a margin of over 10 percent.

Overall 95.52 percent girls passed the exams while the pass percentage of boys was 84.73 percent.

According to board officials, two girls – Abhilasha Yagya Saini and Apoorva Verma – students of Maharani Laxmi Bai Memorial College in Barabanki, 30 km from here, scored 96.20 percent and stood the joint first.

ED-CET on June 8

The Education Common Entrance Test (Ed-CET) will be held on June 8 from 11 am to 1 pm across the State. Candidates can download hall tickets from www.edcet2012.info.

In a press release, Regional Coordinator C. Madhumathi has stated that the candidates should reach the examination centers by 10.30 am and no candidate will be allowed after 11 am into the examination hall.

Nalsar extends last date

Last date for submission of application forms for NALSAR University’s Proximate Education Courses of Post Graduate Diplomas has been extended to June 15.

According to a press release, four post graduate diploma courses in Patents Law, Cyber Laws, Media Laws and International Humanitarian Laws are being offered by the University in distance education mode. (NSS)

‘Decision to hold common engg test is breach of trust’

Contending that IIT Council’s nod to hold the engineering entrance test under a new format is a “breach of trust”, IIT-Kanpur faculty federation today said any new system should not be introduced before 2014.

“For students aspiring to appear in JEE 2013, the IIT Council proposal is a breach of trust. Both the processes and
content of the new examination will not be clear to them any time soon because work on details has not even been initiated.

In no case should any new system be introduced before 2014,” the federation said in a statement.

Inter 1st yr syllabus and books revised

All the principals, lecturers and students are hereby informed that syllabus for Mathematics IA & IB, Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology has been revised.

New books (English version) for the above mentioned subjects will be available in the market from 1st June. However there will be no change in remaining subjects.

The revised syllabus and Model Question papers of these subjects are also available on Board website www.bieap.gov.in.

Infosys has trained 100,000 graduates at Mysore campus

IT bellwether Infosys has trained about 100,000 graduates in writing software codes and formulating algorithms at its global education centre in Mysore campus during the past decade, the company said Thursday.

“As part of our foundation programme, we have trained about one lakh (100,000) engineering graduates since 2002 beginning with a modest 50 trainees, one trainer, one classroom and a vision to develop a world-class training facility and build intellectual capital,” the global software major said in a statement here.

BRAOU B.Ed. and M.Ed. Exams rescheduled

Dr. B R Ambedkar Open University in a press note stated that the B.Ed. and M.Ed exams which were scheduled earlier from June 1, 2012 have been rescheduled in view of TET Examination on 01-06-2012.

The Exams will start from 02-06-2012 on wards in the same order as earlier.

CBSE Class 12th results declared

CBSE Class 12th student result 2012 has been declared. 87% students in Hyderabad and Secunderabad passed the exams. Pass percentage of girls is higher than the boys.

2397 girls appeared in the exams of which 2169 passed the exams while altogether 3841 boys had appeared in the exams.

‘Engg entrance test be conducted twice a year’

Ahead of the crucial joint council meeting of IITs and NITs tomorrow on the new format of entrance test, Super-30 founder Anand Kumar, well known for getting over 300 students from marginalised sections into the IITs, has suggested making the test more “transparent” and conducting it twice a year.

In a letter to HRD Minister Kapil Sibal, Anand, from whose coaching institute 27 out of 30 students cracked the IIT-JEE this year, has also suggested that students from rural areas be given three chances instead of two at present to qualify for the examination.

Students’ anxiety to be over soon as CBSE to declare class XII results on May 28

The results of class XII Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) examination 2012 will be announced on May 28.

The results will be declared at 11 am on May 28, said a CBSE statement on Friday. The results will be available on the websites www.results.nic.in, www.cbseresults.nic.in and www.cbse.nic.in.

Students can also get their results on email by registering themselves on these websites.

Students can also dial 011-24357276 to get their results. Besides, they can get their results through SMSes.

The results for class X examination were declared on Thursday.

Violence continues, Syria situation remains serious

The situation in Syria “remains extremely serious” and UN efforts to end the political crisis in the country have seen only “small progress”, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has said in a report to the Security Council.

“There is a continuing crisis on the ground, characterised by regular violence, deteriorating humanitarian conditions, human rights violations and continued political confrontation,” said the report, obtained by Al Arabiya, ahead of a Security Council meet on Syria next week.

ICET 2012 key released

ICET convenor Prof. K Om Prakash released ICET 2012 key at Kakatya University premises. He appealed the candidates to go through at the website www.icetdu2012.net and if there are any objections they can be presented before May 31.

He further told that the final key will be released on June 2 while the results will be declared in the second week of June.
