Mumbai, June 22: In diapers, lying in her mother’s lap and yet to sprout teeth, but Zoya is an accused in a dowry harassment case. The two-month-old baby was named along with seven adults by her stepmother in a complaint letter to the police. What is worse is that the police has included the child’s name in the FIR.

Zoya – who should be playing in crib – had to spend several hours in a police station with her mother, foregoing food and sleep and came very close to being arrested.

SI suspended for eve teasing in UP town

Kushinagar, June 22: A sub-inspector posted at Patherva police station in the district was suspended on the charge of eve teasing.

According to police, an FIR was lodged against SI Subhash Chandra Jaiswal in connection with eve teasing. After initial probe, he was put under suspension.

Significantly, the state director general of police (DGP) Vikram Singh issued strict directions to act tough on the eve teasers.

The owner of a Mumbai Mumbai-based magazine and his two associates may land in trouble for allegedly threatening to kill an employee of the company in Delhi.

The victim, Arvind Goswami, who is working as a journalist for the magazine in the capital, has lodged a complaint at the Barakhamba police station.

Goswami has alleged that the he had been receiving threats from Mumbai at regular intervals for “reasons unknown to him.”

Mentally retarded woman gangraped

Mount Abu: In a shameful incident, seven people allegedly abducted a woman from a moving train and raped her in a nearby town Abu road. The police have arrested six people in this connection.

According to reports the seven people kidnapped the mentally retarded 30-year-old woman from the train in which she was travelling from Haryana to Abu road. Later, they took her to a desolated place and reportedly gangraped her.

Superintendent of police (Railways) Ajmer, and his Sirohi counterpart took the matter seriously and took six people in custody.

Mumbai, June 22: A 21-year-old unemployed youth was arrested on Sunday for allegedly blackmailing his friend’s mother, with whom he was having an affair.

A son of a flourmill owner, Mujibur Rehman Ansari became “best buddies” with 15-year-old Sohail Shaikh (name changed). Both of them lived in MB Estate in Virar. Rehman started visiting Shaikh’s home frequently, said police. He got into a physical relationship with his mother Saleema (name changed), and later, captured it on camera. He made it into an MMS clip with an intention of blackmailing her.

Student dies nine months after attack

Chennai, June 22: A second year undergraduate student of engineering who had been in coma for the last nine months, after being attacked by his classmate, died here on Sunday.

Sriperumbudur police have registered a case of murder against the student who is absconding.

According to Prem Anand Sinha, Superintendent of Police, Kancheepuram, the deceased R. Rajkumar (20), a student of Electronics and Communication Engineering in a private college, and his classmate Parthiban of Karaikudi had a scuffle last September. Parthiban hit him with a wooden plank.

Jet pilot found dead in African envoy’s farmhouse

New Delhi, June 22: A 23-year-old Jet Airways pilot was found dead in a swimming pool in the Kapashera area of Southwest Delhi on Sunday.

Kunal Batra, a pilot with Jet Airways was at a farmhouse party at the house of the honorary consul of Togo, according to reports.

His body was found in the water at around 0400 hrs IST. The post mortem report says death was due to drowning.

Police are investigating several possibilities, but Kunal’s parents say he didn’t know how to swim and that it was an unfortunate accident.

Accused in Mumbai woman’s gang rape arrested

Bhopal, June 22: A man who along with his friends allegedly raped a woman from Mumbai at gunpoint in a moving car here has been arrested, the Madhya Pradesh police said Sunday.

The 25-year-old woman was raped by four men in a moving SUV on the outskirts of Bhopal Wednesday night while her husband was held at gunpoint in the same vehicle.

The victim and her husband, residents of central Mumbai, had come to the city to get their two children admitted to the Asaram Bapu Ashram School here. The couple waiting for a public transport took lift in the SUV, police said.

Boy drowns, child killed in road accident in Kashmir

Srinagar, June 21: A boy drowned and another was killed in a road accident in the Kashmir valley while one body was recovered overnight, official sources said today.

A minor, Tasveer Ahmad, was hit and killed by a vehicle at Laherwalpora in Bandipora district of north Kashmir.

Another boy Ishaq Ahamd was taking a bath in a pond when he drowned at Chandigam in the frontier district of Kupwara. His body was later fished out and handed over to his relatives, the sources said.

A house was also damaged in a fire incident at Yarbugh in south Kashmir, they said.

A 21-year-old MBA student died after being hit by an unidentified vehicle on Friday afternoon. According to police, Lal Mohammad was a resident of Sahibabad, UP. “He had gone to Jamia Millia University. Later, as he was going towards Sarai Kale Khan ISBT he was hit by an unknown vehicle near the Maharani Bagh crossing,” said an officer.

New Delhi, June 21:A Darjeeling-based couple did a “Bunty Aur Babli” on two Archies outlets in the capital, conning them in the style of the hit Bollywood movie. The accused couple has been arrested, police said Sunday.

Sushant Dhillon, 38, and his wife Kajal, 28, were arrested Saturday for allegedly cheating Archies galleries in Connaught Place and Jwala Heri markets.

They were arrested after a complaint by Sumit Pal Soni, who runs the Archies Gallery in Connaught Place, in central Delhi.

Pujari gang member killed

Mumbai, June 21: The crime branch shot dead sharpshooter Anup Mishra of the Hemant Pujari gang in an encounter late on Saturday. Acting on a tip-off, the police laid a trap in Malad.

When Mishra turned up, cops asked him to surrender, but he tried to flee after firing a few rounds at them. In retaliation, the officials shot at him. Mishra was a suspect in the 2007 murder of informer Sukesh Shetty.

Lance Naik Mohd Rafiq allegedly ended his life yesterday by shooting himself with his service weapon inside his unit room on Dhar road in Udhampur district, police sources said here today.

Rape victim has left for Britain: police

Shimla, June 21: An 18-year-old British volunteer teacher, who was allegedly raped by two taxi drivers in Palampur town of Himachal Pradesh, has left for Britain, police said Sunday.

The charity worker, who was on an exchange teaching programme and was staying on the outskirts of Palampur in Kangra district along with a few other British nationals, was allegedly abducted and raped by locals, Rakesh Kumar (28) and Sunil Kumar (26) Thursday.

Noida, June 21: The Noida police, along with a Special Operations Group from Etah, allegedly picked up a senior citizen from Abul Fazal Enclave in Okhla when he was coming out from a mosque after offering prayers on Saturday.

4 robbers enters into Ernakulam-Okha Express

Militants slit woman’s throat

Srinagar, June 20: In a shocking incident, Militants killed a woman by slitting her throat after barging into her house in Anantnag district, police said today.

Militants barged into the house of one Fayaz Ahmad Lone at Kandipora-Bijbehara, 45 kms from here, last night and killed his wife, Khateeja, by slitting her throat, police said.

The motive behind the murder was not known.

No militant outfit has owned responsibility for the action.

Two security men injured in land mine blast in Lalgarh

Lalgarh, June 20 : Two security personnel were injured when a land mine planted by Maoist rebels exploded in Goaltor in West Midnapore Saturday – on the third day of the operations launched by the West Bengal government to free this trouble-torn area from leftwing radicals.

‘Two personnel got minor injuries in their hands and the gunfight between the security forces and the Maoists is still on in the Goaltor area intermittently,’ Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Raj Kanojia told IANS.

Death threats for anti-abortion groups

Wichita, June 20: Three Wichita-based anti-abortion groups say they have received death threats in response to last month’s killing of abortion provider George Tiller.

For years, Operation Rescue has received threats, but the number increased dramatically after Tiller’s killing, the group’s president, Troy Newman, said Thursday.

Some of the threats have been aimed at anti-abortion activities planned in Wichita this weekend, Newman said.

Minor raped by cousin and his friend in Punjab

Mohali (Punjab), June 20 (IANS) A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her cousin and his friend in a Punjab village, police said Saturday.

“The accused took the victim to a vacant house on the pretext that her friends were waiting there for her. They managed to flee from the village after committing the crime,” said Dalbeer Singh, station house officer of Kharar town, which is 10 km from here.

The incident took place in Chandu village near Kharar.
