Ex-armyman arrested for sodomy in J-K

Jammu, August 30: Police today arrested an ex-army man on the charge of sodomy in Rajouri district.

Hardesh Kumar is accused of sodomising an 11-year-old boy in a maize field in Chingus belt of Rajouri district, police said.

His parents lodged a complaint after he told them about the incident and Kumar was arrested, police said.

12 injured in clash over eve teasing incident at sports meet

Mangalore, August 30: Twelve persons were injured when two groups clashed over a eve teasing incident at a sports meet at Mondakapu maidan, about 25 km from here today, police said.

Two buses were damaged in the ensuing violence, following which prohibitory orders were clamped in the area, they said.

Police said trouble broke out after one group teased women athletes participating in a sports meet. This was objected to by the other group, who assaulted one of them, leading to a tense situation in the area.

All the injured have been hospitalised, police said.

Property dealer shot dead in Delhi

New Delhi, August 30: A 28-year-old property dealer was allegedly shot dead by four men in northwest Delhi, police said Sunday.
“The incident took place around 11.30 p.m. Saturday in the Mangolpuri area. The victim, Budh Bachchan, was returning home on his motorcycle when four men stopped him. They then entered into an argument which was followed by a fight,” a senior police officer said.

Business man’s son held for shooting at MLC’s son

Jammu, August 30: Police today arrested son of a leading business man here for allegedly opening fire at a man, who was out on bail in connection with a recent incident of firing at Jammu University premises.

The critically injured Amandeep Singh is son of a former National Conference (NC) legislator.

Police today intercepted a car and arrested prime accused Jitender Singh alias Raju, son of Choudhary Nagar Singh alias Nago, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Jammu, Manohar Singh said.

However, co-accused Royal Singh is at large, he said.

Six deaths take India’s swine flu toll to 93

New Delhi, August 30: Six people died Sunday due to swine flu, including four in the worst-hit Maharashtra and one each in Gujarat and Kerala, taking India’s toll to 93, health ministry said.
Besides, 128 people were found positive to the influenza A (H1N1) virus. While Uttar Pradesh reported 27 fresh cases, 22 cases were detected in Delhi, 21 in Tamil Nadu, 17 in Karnataka and 10 in west Bengal.

Minor girl kidnapped, gangraped in Jamnagar, Mumbai

Jamnagar, August 30: Mother of a 17-year-old girl has registered a complaint saying that her daughter was allegedly kidnapped by seven persons and gangraped several times over a period of one week, police said today.

According to police complaint registered yesterday, the girl was gangraped between August 21 and August 26 in Jamnagar and Mumbai by seven persons several times.

On August 21, the girl, who lived with her father here, boarded a private bus from the city to go to meet her mother living in Ahmedabad, the complaint said.

Youth washed away in river, still to be traced: Police

Thane, August 30: An 18-year-old youth from Manor in Thane district was washed away in the Vaitarna river where he had gone to immerse the Ganpati idol last evening on the seventh day of the festival, a delayed reports reaching the district police headquarters here said today.

The washed away boy is identified as Shiv Dashrath Dalvi and added that he had gone along with several other villagers for the immersion in the river.

Couple dies in a road accident

Purulia, August 30: A couple were killed and their 12-year old daughter was seriously injured when their motorcycle collided with a tractor at Bishkundpa village in West Bengal’s Purulia district today, police sources said.

Hapan Murmu, of Sindri in Jharkhand along with his wife Sarala Murmu and daughter were coming in a motorcycle when it collided with the tractor.

The daughter of the Murmu’s was seriously injured in the accident and admitted to Barabazar health centre.

A mob set on fire the tractor but the driver fled. The local residents also blocked the road for an hour.

Robbers decamp with cash and jewellery

New Delhi, August 30: Unidentified men broke into a house in east Delhi and decamped with cash and jewellery worth about Rs 15 lakhs, police said today.

The incident took place in the Pratap Nagar residence of Rajesh Kumar yesterday. The burglary came to light when Kumar and his brothers returned home from office at around 9 pm.

No one was there at the house when the incident took place, police said, adding Kumar’s wife and a child had gone to her house while Kumar and his two brothers had left home at around 1:30 pm.

Police crack down on Gujarat small chemical units

Ahmedabad, August 30:A day after three people died here after consuming methyl solvent mistaking it for locally-brewed liquor, police have started a drive against small industrial units manufacturing such chemicals, officials said Sunday.

A senior crime branch official said police were identifying such small industrial units who make chemicals that are misused by bootleggers.

The official said the three people who died in Ahmedabad Saturday had not consumed illicit liquor but methanol solvent which they bought from a bootlegger.

Four members of family killed in road accident

Dehradun, August 30: Four members of a family were killed on the spot and eight others injured when a car and a tractor collided near Manglore in Roorkee on Delhi-Haridwar Highway early today.

According to Manglore police, the car was coming from New Delhi and going to Haridwar. The accident occurred near Hotel Godavari, near Manglore on New Delhi-Haridwar Highway as the car which was speeding towards Haridwar collided with a tractor that was coming from Roorkee. The car overturned at around 0400 hrs.

Four people died on the spot whereas eight others were injured.

25 year-old woman killed, 19 injured in mishap

Kancheepuram, August 30: A 25 year-old woman was killed and 19 people, including the driver, sustained serious injuries when a bus in which they were travelling overturned at Sunkuvarchathram near here tody.

Accoring to police the mishap occured when the bus fell into a ditch when the victims were returning to Wallajabad after work. The bus belonged to a private company where the victims were employed.

The deceased Sukanya died on the spot.

Apart from the driver, the other injured were all women. They were admitted to the Government Hospital here.

Muzaffarnagar, August 30: A Dalit woman has been allegedly raped on gun-point by two youths in Firozabad village of the district, police said toady.

The incident took place yesterday morning when the victim was going to answer nature’s call, they said.

In her complaint, the victim alleged that the youths threatened her to kill if she disclosed the incident to anyone.

The woman has been sent for medical examination and search on to nab the culprits, they added.

Two Nepalese arrested with fake currency in MP

Bhopal, August 30: Two Nepalese of Indian origin have been arrested here for allegedly smuggling fake currency into the country, police said today. Atiq Ahmed alias A K Shrivastava (42), a resident of Birganj in Nepal and Rajesh Gupta (42) of Khatmandu were arrested yesterday with counterfeit currency of face value Rs 11,000, following a tip-off, Madhya Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) chief Pawan Shrivastava said.

Police Havaldar commits suicide

Jagdalpur, August 30: A police havaldar, who was posted as mess In-charge at the Jungle Warfare College here, has died of self-inflicted gunshot wound in Kanker district of Chhattigarh, police said today.

Jashpur-resident Manoj Kumar Tigga, who had been recently promoted as Havaldar from Constable, returned home from duty yesterday and committed suicide using his rifle at his quarters.

Brigadier B K Ponwar and Additional Superintendent of Police Balaji Rao rushed to the spot. The reason behind the suicide was not known yet.

Three killed in car accident

Alappuzha, August 30: Three people were killed and one person was injured when the car in which they were travelling collided with a van at Mathilakam near Cherthala early today. Police said the deceased were identfied as Rafiq (37), his brother Sajeer (29) and Nawaz (38), all hailing from Kollam.

The ill-fated car was proceeding to Ernakulam from Kollam when the mishap occured on the national highway.

The injured was admiited to a hospital in Ernakulam, police added.

Train looted, passenger killed in Bihar

Patna, August 30: A railway employee was killed and ten people injured when armed robbers looted cash and valuables from passengers of a local train in Bihar’s Jamui district, police said today.

Mukesh Mandal, a gangman, was shot at when he tried to resist the armed attackers who boarded the 507 EMU Jhajha-Patna at Jamui and went on a looting spree late last night, they said.

Mandal died on the way to a hospital at Jamui.

The firing led to a stampede-like situation as panic- stricken passengers jostled to get down from the train, they said, adding 10 peole were injured in the melee.

Harrowing time for girl students, one raped another stripped

Jaipur, August 30: Two girls faced harrowing time at their schools with one being raped by the school owner and another stripped off her shirt by her teacher for not paying tuition fee.

In the Pink City, a 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped by the owner of her school. The Class VI student of Maharaja Secondary School was allegedly raped by Ramesh Sain at the school office yesterday, Deputy SP (North) Anil Gothwal said today.

Following the incident, angry locals indulged in stone pelting and gheraoed the police station. The accused has been arrested.

Cannabis worth Rs.3 mn seized in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, August 29: Chhattisgarh Police said Saturday they had seized a truck carrying cannabis worth Rs.3 million in the state’s Bastar district.

“We seized a truck loaded with 91 sacks of ganja (Cannabis) in a village near the national highway,” Suresh Dhruv, in-charge of the Keshkal police station said.

The cannabis was estimated to be worth at least Rs.3 million.

The truck has a Chhattisgarh registration plate. The driver and helper, however, managed to escape, police said.

Police officer booked in Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad, August 29: A police officer has been booked in Ghaziabad for detaining a man and then taking a bribe for releasing him, an official said on Saturday.

The police registered a case against Sub Inspector Afal Singh, former station officer of Vijay Nagar police station, for illegally detaining Rahul Yadav and releasing him only after taking a bribe from his brother, said Circle Officer R.K. Gautam.

Bank manger caught accepting bribe

Shahdol, August 29: A branch manager of Central Bank of India was today allegedly caught red-handed taking a bribe of Rs 12,000 from a farmer by the CBI at Shamatpur area in adjoining Anuppur district, sources said.

The CBI’s action came following a complaint lodged with them by one Siyaram Rathore stating that Bank’s Shamatpur branch manager A M Chincholkar was demanding Rs 12,000 bribe for issuing Kisan Credit Card to him, they added.

A team of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) laid a trap and caught and arrested Chincholkar taking the bribe at his office, sources said.

Man kills woman, injures her son

Hyderabad, August 29: A man allegedly killed an elderly woman and seriously injured her son, on the suspicion that the duo were practising sorcery in Karimnagar district of Andhra Pradesh, police said today.

The deceased, S Rajavva (60) died on the spot after sustaining head-injuries while her son S Malaiah (45) who suffered stab-injuries was undergoing treatment at a hospital, after one Rajender attacked them last night in Walvonda village of Mallapur mandal of Karimnagar district, they said.

Bollywood producer booked for misbehaving with model

Mumbai, August 29: A non-cognisable offense has been registered against a Bollywood producer for allegedly misbehaving with a model during the release of a music album in suburban Andheri, police said here today.

In an inebriated state, the producer Ashok Khullar, held the model Survi Chaterjee in public and misbehaved with her during the release of an album last night in a restaurant at Amboli police station senior police inspector K Ghamande told.

One arrested for selling chemical that killed three

Ahmedabad, August 29: A man was arrested here today in connection with the death of three persons due to consumption of a chemical for ecstasy purpose, a crime branch official said.

The arrested, who allegedly sold the substance to victims, was identified as Zakir alias Shabbir Hussain, he said.

“We have arrested one person, who is apparently involved in selling of the chemical which was consumed by some persons yesterday,” a senior official in the crime branch told.

The official said that the investigation is underway and police are likely to arrest few more persons.
