Maoists kill abducted police officer

Ranchi, October 06: Police officer Francis Enduwar, abducted by Maoists five days ago, has been killed in Jharkhand, a senior police official said Tuesday.

The Maoists had demanded that three of their leaders, including Kobad Ghandy, be released in exchange for Enduwar.

The news of Enduwar’s killing was confirmed by Jharkhand Deputy Inspector General R.K. Malik, who said his body was found on the Jamshedpur-Ranchi highway around 9 a.m.

Assam village limps back to normal after militant attack

Biswanath Chariali (Assam), October 06: Army personnel continued to patrol villages in Assam’s violence-hit Sonitpur district after tribal separatists killed 12 villagers, officials said Tuesday.

“Heavy deployment of army personnel backed by police and paramilitary commandos has helped in easing the situation to a great extent,” Assam government spokesperson and state Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told IANS.

11 Chhattisgarh tribals die after eating ox meat

Raipur, October 06: At least 11 tribals died of food poisoning and about a dozen were battling for life in a hospital in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region after they reportedly ate half-cooked ox meat at a village feast, officials said Tuesday.

The victims belonged to the forested Bandapal and Khurpai villages, over 300 km south of Raipur, located in the border area of Narayanpur and Kanker districts.

Hizbul militant killed in encounter

Doda, October 06: A self-styled section commander of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit was shot dead by security forces during an encounter in Marmat area of Doda district today.

On specific information about the presence of a militant in Deda forest of Marmat area, about 193 kms from Jammu, Rashtriya Rifle troops launched a search operation last night to nab him, police said.

Troops located the militant early today and in the subsequent encounter, he was killed.

Minor raped by ‘tantrik’

Muzaffarnagar, October 06: A minor Dalit girl was allegedly raped by a godman in a village here, police said today.

The parents of the 10-year-old girl had left her to the godman’s ashram for cure of some ailment two days ago in Adli village but was allegedly raped.

The girl reached home yesterday and narrated the incident to her parents who lodged a police complaint in this regard.

The ‘tantrik’ is on the run and police have registered the case.

Riyadh, October 05: Teachers and pupils reportedly fled in panic as the ceilings in three classrooms at a secondary school building in Riyadh’s Khanshalilah District started to collapse Sunday.

Six students injured in minor fire in Delhi school

New Delhi, October 05: Six students were on Monday injured when a fire broke out in an MCD school in south-west Delhi, an incident which brought to the fore the need to improve safety measures in government and civic-body run educational institutions.

The blaze was reported from the MCD primary school in Bapraula village in Najafgarh at around 11:15 am, fire brigade officials said.

The fire broke out in an electric meter due to a suspected short circuit and six students standing near the meter suffered “minor” injuries, the officials said.

Father, daughter kill two in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow, October 05:A man, along with his daughter, opened fire at five people in Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnore district Monday killing two on the spot and critically injuring the rest, police said.

The incident was reported in the Kambhour village of Bijnore district early Monday.

The accused, Akhtar and Fatima, are absconding after the incident. The injured were sent to Meerut for treatment.

One person arrested with fake currency notes

Meerut, October 05: On person was arrested and fake currency notes worth Rs 1.75 lakh recovered from his, police said today. According to ADG Law and Order (west zone), AK Jain, the ATS following a tip-off on Sunday arrested Brijvir, a resident of Atulpur and seized fake currency notes from him.

Police also a scanner and printer used by the accused in printing the fake notes, he said.

Cops to verify nabbed Pakistani man’s story in Nepal

Bhopal, October 05: Police in Madhya Pradesh are planning to send a team to Nepal and Malaysia to ascertain the veracity of the story of a 27-year-old Pakistani man – arrested from the Chhindwara district for entering India on a false Nepali passport – who claimed he had come to search for his “wife”, police sources said Monday.

Mohammad Asghar Ali, 27, who has been identified as a resident of Chheena village near Lahore in Pakistan, told the police after his arrest Sep 29 that he sneaked into India via Nepal in search of his “wife”, 22-year-old dancer Ratna Soni.

Body found in canal; four police personnel suspended

Dehra Dun, October 05: Four police personnel have been suspended and a case registered against them for allegedly throwing a woman”s body into a canal near here, officials said today. Sub-Inspector Raghubir Singh, also incharge of Harbartpur police post where the incident took place, and three constables were suspended last evening after preliminary investigations suggested that they allegedly threw the woman”s body into the Shakti canal, Station House Officer of Vikasnagar J C Pathak said.

Kobad Ghandy sent to police custody till Oct 8

New Delhi, October 05: A city court Monday sent arrested Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) leader Kobad Ghandy to three days’ police custody.

The Delhi Police contended before the court that they need to interrogate him to proceed further in the case. The court sent Ghandy to police custody until Oct 8.

The 63-year-old London-educated Ghandy was arrested here Sep 21 though his party says he was picked up by police four days earlier Sep 17. The top Maoist leader was in judicial custody till Oct 5.

Two arrested for throwing beef at idol in Orissa

Bhuwaneshwar, October 05: Two persons were arrested on charges of throwing beef at an idol of Goddess Laxmi at a community puja pandal in Orissa’s Sundargarh district today, police said.

A large number of people gathered in large number in front of the puja pandal at Bolonda village about 25km from here and blocked the road for about four hours demanding arrest of the culprits, police said.

Steward key witness in AI airhostess assault

Delhi, October 05: The day after four crew members of Air India—two pilots, an airhostess and a flight purser—came to blows in the cockpit and galley of a Sharjah-Delhi-Lucknow flight, Delhi Police made one of them a witness in the case.

On Saturday, an airhostess had pressed charges against pilots Commander Ranbeer Arora and Captain Aditya Chopra for allegedly trying to molest her inside the cockpit. The stewardess said when she resisted, the pilots pushed her out.

Bodo militants gun down 11 people in Assam, 15 injured

Guwahati, October 05: At least 11 people were killed and 15 wounded, seven of them critically, in a daring attack by tribal separatists in Assam late Sunday, officials said.

A police spokesperson said heavily armed militants of the outlawed National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) attacked Bhimajuli village in Sonitpur district, about 240 km north of the state’s main city of Guwahati.

Bodies of two men found in train

Ranchi, October 04: The bodies of two men were found in different bags in the toilets of a passenger train at Dhanbad in Jharkhand, police said Sunday.

The bodies were lying in the toilets of two separate coaches of the Maurya Express late Saturday. Some passengers saw the bodies and informed police.

“It seems that someone killed them and loaded their bodies in the passenger train. It is difficult to say where the bodies were loaded as the train reached Dhanbad five hours after it started from Ranchi,” a police officer said.

Haryana Police conduct raids to arrest rapist murderer

Rohtak, October 04: Police are conducting raids at various places in this Haryana district to arrest a man who had set on fire a 16-year-old girl after raping her Friday, police said Sunday.

According to the police, 22-year-old Sonu, a resident of Khokarakot town here, had called the girl to his house Friday night and raped her. The victim also lived in the same locality and her parents had gone to the market at that time.

Baramulla protests minor’s death

Baramulla, October 04: Violent protests rocked the garrison town of Baramulla on Saturday after a 13-year-old boy was killed after being hit by a tear-smoke shell fired by the cops on Friday.

Irfan Ahmad Lone, 13, was grievously wounded after he was allegedly hit a by a smoke shell when police used baton charge and fired smoke shells to disperse a mob that tried to lead a procession after Friday prayers demanding the release Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani who continues to remain under house arrest.

Shootout on train in Gujarat, one dead

Vadodara (Gujarat), October 04: A shootout on a packed running train in Gujarat following a tiff between a passenger and a rail staffer over bill payment left a youth dead and another injured, police said Sunday.

The incident occurred at around 11.30 p.m. Saturday in the general compartment of the Gorakhpur-Mumbai Awadh Express near Vadodara, said Vadodara Government Railway Police Inspector D.J. Choudhary.

Protestors, police clash in Kashmir, 22 injured

Srinagar, October 03: Twenty-two people, including an additional superintendent of police, were injured as protestors clashed with police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla town Saturday, a day after a 13-year-old died when he was hit by a teargas smoke shell, an official said.
“At least 12 policemen, including the Baramulla additional superintendent of police, were injured in stone pelting by an irate mob. Ten protesters also suffered minor injuries in the clashes,” a senior police officer said here.

Brothers held for kidnapping, raping teenager in Delhi

New Delhi, October 03:A 25-year-old man was arrested for kidnapping and molesting a 15-year-old girl while his younger brother was arrested for raping her when she refused to marry him, police said Saturday.

Rinku, who is married, was insisting the victim get married to his brother Deepak, police said.

When she refused do so, they kept her hostage for 10 days in their Model Town house in northwest Delhi, “where the elder brother molested her and the younger one raped her. They also threatened her with dire consequences,” said a police officer.

Mastermind of Bihar massacre, 10 others arrested

New Delhi, October 03: Bihar Police said on Saturday they have arrested 11 people, including the mastermind behind the massacre of 16 people, including five children, in Khagaria district two days ago and more arrests would be made soon.

Additional Director General of Police (headquarters) Neelmani said the mastermind behind the massacre O.P. Mahto had been arrested and was being interrogated along with the others. “Police have got some vital information about the incident and more arrests will be made soon,” he said.
