Bomb on Jharkhand tracks hits train services

Ranchi, October 28: A bomb was found on railway tracks in Jharkhand’s Simdega district Wednesday, disrupting train services, police said.

The five kg bomb was discovered near Bano railway station in Simdega, nearly 200 km from here, by railway authorities. Two trains were halted at Bano and two trains were cancelled.

Bomb near tracks holds up train movement

Simdega (Jharkhand), October 28: The Puri-Hatia Tapaswini Express was today held up at Bano Railway station in Simdega district after a bomb was spotted near the tracks.

The can-bomb was detected by a check van during a routine patrol between Bano and Mahabuang stations, police said, adding soon after the railway authorities held up the train, 200 km from Ranchi, and cancelled two passenger trains on that route.

A senior police officer said the bomb-disposal squad would examine the object.

Maoist attack on Rajdhani unforgivable crime: Naveen

Bhubaneswar, October 27: Terming the attack on the Rajdhani Express as an “unforgivable” crime, Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today said the activists had put hundreds of people including women and children in trouble.

“State governments, the Union Home ministry and Railways need to take extra care to ensure that such incidents do not occur in future,” Patnaik told reporters here.

He said both Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee informed him about the safety of passengers.

CBI arrests two more in disproportionate assets case

Mumbai, October 28: The CBI today arrested two more persons in connection with the disproportionate assets case registered against Nagpur Income Tax Commissioner Ajoy Kumar Singh and his wife, officials said here.

“Singh’s sister Shanti Kumari and her husband Subhash Chandra have been arrested from Hyderabad and would be produced in a special court in Mumbai later,” CBI Superintendent of Police Abhin Modak said.

3 physiotherapy students arrested for ‘ragging’ juniors

Tiruchirappalli (TN), October 27: Three students of the Government College of Physiotherapy here were arrested today for allegedly ragging and beating up three first year students, police said.

They were arrested following a complaint by college authorities, they said.

ATM machine with over Rs 10 lakh cash stolen in Pune

Pune, October 27: An ATM machine containing over Rs 10 lakh cash was stolen today from Kasarwadi area at Pimpri near here, police said.

The Union Bank machine, located at a cross section, had registered its last transaction in the afternoon with a cash withdrawal of Rs 500, after which customers were greeted by an empty cabinet which housed the ATM, they said.

Security agencies conduct mock drill of plane hijack

Nagpur, October 27: The security agencies today conducted a successful mock drill of plane hijack at the city airport, police said today.

A Kingfisher flight from Mumbai to Nagpur was hijacked midway and landed at city airport. Boeing 300 aircraft, carrying 135 passengers and seven crew members landed at the airport after the pilot informed the Air Traffic Control (ATC) that the aircraft had been hijacked.

The hijackers demanded that four of their colleagues be released from Pune Jail, they be given USD 40 million and an aircraft to leave the country.

Suburban league footballers arrested for raping two women

Melbourne, October 27: Australian police on Tuesday arrested 16 suburban league footballers for allegedly raping two women at a tourist spot in Phillip Island earlier this month.

The men, aged between 17 and 20, were taken into custody after raids on four properties in Montmorency, Bundoora and Briar Hill early this morning, a newspaper said in a report today, adding that they are being quizzed by the sexual crimes squad.

Two suspected Bangladeshi terrorists arrested in Delhi

New Delhi, October 27: Delhi Police on Tuesday arrested two suspected Bangladeshi terrorists from the Nizamuddin area of the national capital.

The two arrested have been identified as Munir and Mehboob. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the two were involved in terrorist activities in Bangladesh and spent two years in jail there before coming to India some 18 month back through an agent. The police have also recovered a pistol from them.

Investigators are probing whether the two were involved in terrorist activities in India.

CBI produces runaway NRI mother and son in SC

New Delhi, October 27: The CBI on Tuesday produced in the Supreme Court NRI Vidyashree Boora, who along with her son Aditya Chandra, fled the US after a divorce dispute with her husband Ravichandran.

A Bench of Justices Tarun Chatterji and G S Singhvi while declining immediate custody of the child to either of the couple directed the CBI to supervise the custody of the child who is presently lodged in a CPWD guest house in the capital.

Robbers stab woman to death; decamp with valuables

Mumbai, October 27: A woman was today stabbed to death and her husband seriously injured after being robbed by two motorcycle-borne men at Parel in central Mumbai, police said.

The victims, identified as Beena and Jatin Desai, were out for their morning walk at around 0545 hours this morning when the incident occurred, senior inspector R B Poman of Kalachowkie police station told PTI.

Goa police arrests wanted Briton

Panaji, October 27: A man of Indian origin with British citizenship wanted by UK police has been arrested in Goa, police said today.

Ajay Kaushal (50) was reportedly on the run after he was awarded 15 years of imprisonment for kidnapping. He entered India through Bangkok, according to police records.

Kaushal’s identity was established through his travel documents and he was held last night, DSP Umesh Gaonkar said.

One killed in chimney collapse

Lakhimpur (UP), October 27: One person was killed and four others injured when a nearly 110-feet high under- construction chimney of a brick kiln collapsed in Kheri area of the district, police said here today.

Barish Ali (25) was killed on the spot while four other labourers were injured when the chimney collapsed in Rampur village last evening, they said.

Sub Divisional Magistrate Avinash Singh said sub standard construction led to the mishap.

The contractor and the brick kiln owner were absconding after the incident.

Rajya Sabha deputy chairman’s stolen vehicle recovered

New Delhi, October 27: Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman K. Rahman Khan’s car, which was stolen, was found abandoned in the parking space of the Radisson Hotel here, police said Tuesday.

The Mahindra Bolero car, which had a radio tag attached to it for entry into the Parliament House complex, was stolen from driver Niranjan Mohanty’s house in Sector-5 of R.K. Puram in south Delhi around 5.15 a.m Monday.

“The car was found in the parking lot of the Radisson Hotel in Mahipalpur late Monday. It has now been seized by the police and the matter is being investigated,” a police official said.

17 killed in Bihar bus accidents

Patna, October 27: At least 17 people were killed and dozens injured in two separate bus accidents in Bihar Tuesday morning, police said.

Nine people, including women and children, died in Banka district when their bus collided with a vehicle. Nearly two dozen people were seriously injured.

“The accident took place when the bus driver lost control and collided with a high speed vehicle,” a police official said.

The second accident took place in Munger district where eight people were killed.

Maoist ultras blow up two schools in Jharkhand

Giridih (Jharkhand), October 27: Maoists blew up two schools in the district in the wee hours today.

The ultras packed explosives inside Upgraded Haridih School and Upgraded Dharpahari School, damaging the structures, police said here.

There was no loss of life in the incident. Police personnel have set out on foot to reach the place of the bombing to avoid landmines.

Maoists usually trigger blasts in schools which the security forces have used as shelters during their anti-naxal operations.

Abducted police official quizzed

Kolkata, October 26: Police officer Atindranath Dutta, held hostage and later freed in a swap for 14 women cadres by Maoist rebels, was Monday summoned to the state police’s Criminal investigation Department (CID) headquarters and quizzed for six hours about his 51-hour captivity with the extreme Leftwing rebels.

CID sources termed Dutta’s questioning from 2 pm to 8 pm here as a routine exercise.

PCPA abducted two missing policemen – DGP

Kolkata, October 26: The West Bengal Police today alleged that the two missing policemen were abducted by the Maoist-backed PCPA from the Lalgarh region and claimed this has been admitted by the arrested bodyguard of its leader Chhatradhar Mahato.

Director General of Police Bhupinder Singh claimed Papan Mondal, arrested bodyguard of Mahato, now in judicial custody, told the police during interrogation a month back that Kanchan Gorai, ASI, and Shabir Ali Molla, constable, were abducted by PCPA activists.

Four injured in protests over youth’s killing in J-K

Srinagar, October 26: A girl and three others were injured as violent protests continued in the valley over the death of a youth who was killed in an Army camp by the troops after he allegedly intruded there.

The clashes between police and angry people rocked Batmaloo, Maisuma, Gawkadal and adjoining areas for most part of the day, disrupting normal life, official sources said.

IIT scholar was a pervert: Police

New Delhi, October 26: A 34-year-old PhD scholar of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, who was arrested for the murder of a Manipur teenager, is of “pervert and maniacal” nature and suffers from obsessive compulsive disorder, Delhi Police said Monday.

“Pushpum Sinha is suffering from obsessive compulsive disorder. And some articles showing his pervert nature and maniacal obsession have been recovered from his rented room,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) H.G.S. Dhaliwal told reporters here.

Five held for molesting girls on train

Lucknow, October 26: Five students have been arrested for allegedly molesting women at gunpoint on a train in Uttar Pradesh’s Etawah district, officials said Monday.

The incident took place on the Delhi-bound Gomti Express Monday morning near the Phaphund railway station in Etawah, some 300 km from Lucknow, they said.

“Some of the girls mustered courage and managed to approach Railway Protection Force (RPF) officials in the train after which the five students were nabbed,” A.K. Singh, Government Railway Police (GRP) inspector in Etawah, told IANS.

Poachers poison elephant, remove tusks, nails

Ranchi, October 26: Poachers poisoned an elephant and removed its tusks and nails in Khuti district of Jharkhand, a forest official said Monday.

“An elephant had strayed into a village in Khuti district. The poachers fed the elephant poisoned banana leaves. The elephant died and the poachers removed the tusks and nails,” a forest official told IANS.

“The elephant was buried on Sunday evening. We have lodged a FIR (first information report).”

The incident took place at Goplapur village, 60 km from here.

Rajya Sabha deputy chairman’s car stolen

New Delhi, October 26: Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman K. Rahman Khan’s car, which had a radio tag attached to it, has been stolen from his driver’s residence, police said here Monday.

The Mahindra Bolero was stolen Sunday night from his driver’s home in Mahipalpur in south Delhi, police officials said. The radio tag that allows its entry into parliament has been deactivated.

“The car, a Mahindra Bolero, was stolen from the residence of the driver Niranjan Mohanty late last night. He had taken the vehicle to his home after his duty ended very late,” an official said.
