Missing Ukrainian paraglider rescued

Palampur (HP), November 11: A Ukrainian paraglider, who had gone missing while flying five days back, was located and rescued today from the dense forests of Bundala, about 10 kms from here in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh.

Egore (49) was located and later rescued by a private chopper from the forests situated at a height of over 8000 feet, Billing Paragliding Association President Suresh Thakur said.

The paraglider from Ukraine is out of danger, but has grown weak, he said, adding that the same chopper has taken him to Delhi.

Two wanted dacoits killed in encounter

Bhind (MP), November 11: Two dacoits, active in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, were gunned down in an encounter by the police in the district, police said today.

The duo was carrying a reward of Rs 35,000 each and have been identified as Rambir Sikarwar and Sanjeev Tomar, Chambal Range Inspector General of Police (IG) Sanjay Jha told reporters.

Acting on a tip-off, a police party, led by Additional SP Siddharth Choudhry, challenged them in Phoof area near Sapad village following which they opened fire at the police.

Mysore-Ajmer train derails near Pune, four injured

Pune, November 11: Four passengers sustained minor injures when ten bogies of Mysore-Ajmer train derailed this evening at Jejuri near here, railway officials said.

A rescue team was rushed to the spot, about 70 km from here, a railways spokesman said.

4 nabbed in capital for series of robberies in states

New Delhi, November 11: Four persons, allegedly involved in a series of robberies in several states, have been arrested in the national capital, police said today.

A stolen car, gold and silver jewellery, mobile phones, Rs 2.61 lakh in cash and a pistol with four live cartridges were recovered from them.

Those arrested were identified as Narender (19), Jaspal Singh (24), Pradeep Sharma (21) and Sohan Lal (21), a senior police official said.

Court summons Congress MLA

Karimganj, November 11: A Congress MLA and son of state minister in Assam has been summoned by a local court for allegedly kidnapping and assaulting a college student.

Debabrata Pal, the student, had filed an FIR alleging that Rahul Roy, the MLA from Algapur in Hailakandi district, who is the son of Social Welfare Minister Gautom Roy, along with four of his supporters had kidnapped him and severely beat him up, police said.

Pal further alleged that he was whipped by the MLA and his accomplices, who also set a dog on him.

One killed, three injured in road accident

Greater Noida, November 11: A speeding bus rammed into a car in Kasna area killing one person and injuring three others late this evening.

According to police, the accident took place near Honda Siel factory in which four injured were rushed to Kailash Hospital, where one person, Satte(45) died during treatment.

Three injured Azad Pratap and Sharda suffered injuries and their condition was stated to be stable.

Kasna police has seized the bus, while the bus driver was absconding

Woman alleges bank of stealing her valuables

Bulandshahr, November 11: A woman today lodged a complaint with the Khurja police in which she accused a prominent bank of “stealing” her jewellery and cash worth over Rs 12 lakh from her locker.

In her complaint, Shankuntala Devi has said her locker at the State Bank of India main branch, at Khurja, was found open when she visited the bank yesterday.

According to SHO Khurja, Daya Sagar, the matter was being probed.

J-K govt orders magisterial probe into Poonch mishap

Jammu, November 11: Jammu and Kashmir government today ordered a magisterial probe into the road mishap in which eight persons were killed and 32 injured in Poonch district.

Deputy Chief Minister (DCM) Tara Chand, who visited Government Medical college (GMC) here to meet the injured, said that he has directed the Deputy Commissioner to conduct an inquiry into the mishap and submit a report to him at the earliest.

Murdered Dalit’s mother appeals to Punjab government

Chandigarh, November 11: A Dalit woman Wednesday sought the intervention of the Punjab government in the suspected killing of her son by some influential people in their village last week and urged police be directed to arrest the main accused.

Jeevan Kumar, a resident of Chukar Chak village in the state’s Moga district, 210 km from here, was shot dead following an altercation with a man who used to play music at a high volume.

Kathmandu, November 11: Within a week of uncovering a Chinese sex workers’ network here, Nepal police have now busted a budding sex empire run by an Indian with tentacles in major Indian metros and with audacious plans to expand internationally.

Manish Sharma, resident of New Delhi, began running the call girl racket in Kathmandu about two months ago, the police alleged. In India, his operations are said to cover Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Goa.

Maoists kill three in Orissa

Bhubaneswar, Nov 11: Maoist guerrillas killed three people and injured two others in Orissa’s Rayagada district, police said Wednesday.

‘As per our information, Maoists killed three people late last night (Tuesday). About 45-50 armed Maoists had come to the village late night and killed these people. They were speaking in Telugu,’ Superintendent of Police Ashish Singh said.

According to the police, some encounters had taken place between the rebels and the police in the last few months. ‘By killing these innocent people, the rebels were retaliating against the police,’ an officer said.

Cop kills cousin over land in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow, Nov 11: A policemen shot dead his cousin in full public view at a village council meeting in Uttar Pradesh, authorities said Wednesday.

The council meeting was underway to sort out the land dispute between the two when Harendra Kumar, a constable with the Delhi Police, allegedly killed Rampal Tuesday in Dhigna village of Baghpat district, some 400 km from Lucknow. Kumar is absconding.

Drunk Noida man crushes four sleeping by road; four others injured

Noida, Nov 11: Four members of a family of labourers were killed and four others were injured when a speeding car ran them over on the roadside near Sector-39 police station here on Monday night.

According to the police, one Rahul Gupta, a property dealer, was behind the wheel — he was inebriated when the accident occurred around midnight.

Gupta, a resident of Sector-27, was arrested last night, and sent to judicial custody of 14 days on Tuesday morning. While witnesses have said there were three others in the car, the police are yet to confirm details.

Doctor booked for sexual harassment in Himachal

Shimla, November 10: A case was filed against a doctor of the prestigious Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital in the Himachal Pradesh capital Tuesday for allegedly sexually harassing a medical student, police said.

Shimla Superintendent of Police R.M. Sharma said a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the doctor on the complaint of a post-graduate student.

She alleged that the doctor, who is head of the oral surgery department in the Government Dental College, had been physically harassing her for quite some time.

Two sweepers of joint forces abducted; one released

Kolkata, November 10: Maoist-backed tribals allegedly kidnapped two sweepers attached to the security forces engaged in anti-naxal operations in West Midnapore district, but released one of them after a few hours.

Ramswarup Hela and Rajendra Hela were posted at the Dharampore camp. “They are not jawans, but they are part of the joint forces definitely,” IG (Law and Order) Surajit Kar Purokayanstha said.

Rajendra Hela was released about 10.30 pm.

Remand for IAS officer in bribe case

Mohali, November 10: A senior IAS officer, who was allegedly caught accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh, was remanded in two-day custody of Vigilance Bureau.

Vijay Kumar Janjua, Secretary-cum-Director, Industries and Commerce, was arrested by the Vigilance sleuths yesterday while accepting bribe from a Ludhiana industrialist.

Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate, Lalit Kumar Singla, directed the agency to produce him before the court on Thursday.

The VB had sought ten-day custody of the 1989 IAS officer for ascertaining his alleged unaccounted assets and assess his bank details.

8 killed, 32 injured in road mishap in Poonch

Poonch(J&K), November 10: Eight persons including two women and a four-month-old baby were killed and 32 others injured, some of them seriously, when a matador in which they were travelling skidded off the road and fell into Trungli river in Poonch district here today.

The over-loaded matador, which was on its way from Noona Bandi to Poonch, skidded off the road at Bandi Chachian, about 230 kms from Jammu, and rolled down about 60-feet deep into the river, officials said.

AMU students to intensify agitation

New Delhi, November 10: Students of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) today decided to intensify their stir to demand resignation of Vice Chancellor Abdul Aziz on the issue of alleged murder of a fellow student by hooligans.

The students, who are continuing their agitation here, also demanded that the decision to close the university sine die should be revoked immediately.

They said their prime demand is removal of the vice chancellor. Students’ Union of JNU has also joined the AMU students in their agitation.

Temporary driver of MCD arrested for bike thefts

New Delhi, November 10: Two persons including a temporary driver of MCD were arrested and four stolen motorcycles recovered from their possession, police said today.

The duo were identified as Sunil Sharma alias Chotu (19) and Ashok Kumar alias Tony (24), who was working as a temporary driver in MCD, police said.

Three Hero Honda Splendour and one Hero Honda Unicorn bike, which the duo confessed to have had stolen from Bhajanpura and Mukherjee Nagar police station areas, were recovered from their possession, police said, adding a fake number plate was also recovered.

Girl poisons family to elope with paramour

Bahadurgarh (Har), November 10: A teenaged girl allegedly served tea laced with some poisonous substance to her mother and three younger brothers before eloping with her lover in Baamnouli village here, police said today.

The victims, all in an unconscious state, were rushed to PGIMS Rohtak following the incident last evening.

Police carried out raids at several places and arrested the couple. They were produced before a local court today which remanded them in 14-day judicial custody.

Six persons arrested for auto-lifting

New Delhi, November 10: Delhi Police today claimed to have cracked a gang of auto-lifters allegedly involved in more than 100 cases with the arrest of six persons here.

The arrested were identified as Sonu Pathak, Raju Hitler, Vishaila, Shakir, Mujir and Sangeet Sharma, a senior police officer said, adding 16 stolen cars were recovered from them.

“Members of above gang are involved in more than 100 cases of auto-lifting in Delhi and adjoining states,” the officer said.
