Old woman murdered in Bangalore

Bangalore, August 09:A 78 year-old woman was found murdered near a hotel in the city today, police said.

The deceased identified as Lourd Mary was found with her head crushed, they said.

The old woman, who was staying alone in Vijayanagar area, is survived by three sons and six daughters.

A complaint was filed by the deceased’s son Uday Kumar.

“It is not murder for gain as the gold jewellery Mary was wearing was found intact,” police said. PTI

London, August 09: Ravi Bopara has admitted that he is fighting to save his Test place after his poor form continued with a miserable match at Headingley. Melbourne, August 09: “Lazy”, “shallow” and “flat” – that is how former Australian opener Justin Langer described the English cricketers in his dossier, which was handed over to Ricky Ponting’s men before the first Ashes Test in Cardiff.

2 fresh H1N1 cases reported in AP

Hyderabad, August 09: Two fresh cases of swine flu were reported in the state capital taking the number of those affected to 74.

Co-ordinator of the Chest Hospital Nodal Centre here, Dr Subhakar told UNI two more cases were reported yesterday, taking the total cases to 74 so far.

Out of 74 cases, 69 were discharged from the hospital after treatment and five patients were still undergoing treatment, he said, adding they were responding well to the treatment.

Free health camp for autorickshaw drivers

Hyderabad, August 09: A three-day free health camp for autorickshaw drivers and their families began here today.

Inaugurating the camp, organised by ‘TVS Tyres,’ Andhra Pradesh Minister for Health and Family Welfare Danam Nagender said ”most of the drivers neglect their health.

Infact 90 per cent of the drivers dont even know their blood group.” The autorickshaw drivers and their families could avail medical facilities like checking of blood group, eye, ECG, Blood Pressure among others, the minister said.

Airtel launches wireless data card for prepaid users

New Delhi, August 09:Telecom major Bharti Airtel Sunday launched its wireless data card for prepaid users in Delhi and the national capital region (NCR) that will enable Internet connectivity for laptops and other computing devices while on the move.

The data card can work on all the partner networks of Airtel when on national roaming and is compatible with GSM network while on international roaming, the company said in a statement.

New Delhi, August 09: Filmmaker Ram Gopal Verma`s tongue-in-cheek posts may be miles away from Amitabh Bachchan`s philosophical musings, but the controversial director says that it is Big B who inspired him to blog.

Verma who has directed the megastar in many films, including the hit Sarkar series, said that it was Bachchan who made him realise the full scope of the medium.

“I knew about it before but it was Amitji who sort of educated me about the scope of blogging and then I started writing and the feedback was interesting,” the director told reporters.

5 cops suspended for beating mentally challenged man

Ranchi, August 09:The Jharkhand police Sunday suspended five policemen for beating a mentally challenged youth in a hospital in Dumka district, police said.

“Five policemen, including one sub-inspector, have been suspended for beating a mentally challenged youth in a hospital in Dumka district,” said a police official in Ranchi.

“Explanation has been sought from the suspended policemen,” he said.

On Saturday, five policemen beat up a mentally challenged man, Ramvilas Thakur, 30, the police official here said.

Couple dead in Haryana, ‘honour killing’ suspected

Jhajjar (Haryana), August 09:Another suspected ‘honour killing’ was reported in Haryana’s Jhajjar district Sunday, with the bodies of a man and a minor girl who went missing from their homes some days ago found hanging from a tree on the outskirts of their village.

“At this point of time we cannot conclude whether it was suicide or murder. But after studying the background of the case and seeing the circumstances, we cannot rule out the possibility of ‘honour killing’,” district police chief Saurabh Singh told IANS.

In an interview to the television channel IBN7 telecast Sunday evening, Patel said: “The credit for bringing Supriya Sule into politics goes more to me than to Sharad Pawar. We brought her into it because she is young and wanted to enter politics.”

“So why not, just because she is the daughter of Sharad Pawar?” Patel asked.

Birthplace of Roman emperor found in Italy

Rome, August 09: Archaeologists have unearthed a sprawling country villa believed to be the birthplace of Vespasian, the Roman emperor who built the Colosseum, they said Friday. The 2,000-year-old ruins were found about 80 miles (130 kilometers) northeast of Rome, near Cittareale, lead archaeologist Filippo Coarelli said.
The 150,000-square-feet (14,000-square-meter) complex was at the center of an ancient village called Falacrine, Vespasian’s hometown.
