Gold sets fresh record of Rs 31,400 per 10 gms

Scaling a new peak, gold prices Monday touched all-time record of Rs 31,400 per 10 grams in the bullion market here on strong cues from global markets.

Traders said gold registered gains for the seventh trading session in a row, rising by Rs 100, on sustained buying by stockists amid rally in overseas market.

The investors were also seen shifting funds from melting equities to firming bullion, they added.

The metal has gained Rs 860 in last six trading sessions.

However, silver lacked necessary buying support and declined by Rs 100 to Rs 57,700 per kg.

PM to embark on crucial Iran visit today

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would arrive here on Tuesday on a four-day visit to attend the NAM Summit on Thursday, prior to which he will hold crucial bilateral talks with Iran’s top leadership, including supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, ignoring US reservations.

Singh will also be holding bilateral meetings with leaders from other countries, including Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the sidelines of the 16th Summit of the 120-nation grouping.

TRAI set 12-minutes upper cap on the advertisement

(Siasat News)Telecom Regulatory of India, the broadcasting regulator proposes a 12-minute cap on the advertisements every hour.

They decided this after getting complaints about the growing number of commercials.

It stated “No broadcaster shall, in its broadcast of a programme, carry advertisements exceeding 12 minutes in a clock hour.”

TRAI said it acted after wide consultations with all stakeholders.

Fresh violence in Assam; 1 killed, 5 injured

One person was killed and five others injured in three separate incidents of violence in Assam’s strife-torn Kokrajhar district late Monday night, police said.

The first incident took place in Phumti Village under Salakati police outpost, but no casualty was reported from there.

In yet another incident, one person was killed and 4 others injured when miscreants opened fire in Pakritola village under Fakira gram, they said, adding that one more person was injured in the third incident that took place in Tupimari under Gossaigaon area of the district.

Six die in shootout at Brazil nightclub

Six people were killed and 14 wounded in a gunfight at a nightclub in the southeastern Brazilian city of Belo Horizonte, police said Monday, blaming the violence on a dispute between gangs.

Scores of people were inside the club late Sunday night when two armed men burst in as a band was playing and started firing indiscriminately.

One of the intruders was carrying a military-issue submachine gun, police said.

Several club patrons drew guns and returned fire, fatally wounding the attacker with the submachine gun, while the other assailant fled on a motorcycle.

Akshay learns gibberish for `Joker` Mumbai: As actor Akshay Kumar`s upcoming film `Joker` revolves around aliens, he learnt a new language to communicate with them.

Directed by Shirish Kunder, `Joker` is a fantasy-adventure film starring Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha, Shreyas Talpade and Minnisha Lamba.

“In the film there is a real alien Golkot who we have introduced. The only person who understands and talks the alien language is Shreyas Talpade. In this film Akshay will be seen speaking in a gibberish language which the aliens speak,” producer Farah Khan said in a statement here.

Adnan Sami, Roya Faryabi ready for parenthood

Singer Adnan Sami had decided that as soon as legal troubles with his second wife Sabah Galadari end, he would take his third wife, Roya Faryabi, to a city of her dreams and they would initiate the process of parenthood.

The couple is currently in Paris.

“We have waited long for parenthood. We wanted our child to be born after we freed the world around our lives from the stress that Roya and I have been facing incessantly. Sonia Gandhi to rally party behind PM Manmohan Singh

Leading the counter-offensive on the coal block allocation issue, Congress president Sonia Gandhi is expected to rally the party behind Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Gandhi will on Tuesday be addressing the general body meeting of the Congress Parliamentary Party, which will be the first occasion for her interaction with party MPs after the controversy broke out.

Her address will come shortly before PM Singh leaves for Iran for a four-day trip to attend the NAM Summit.

Taliban behead 17 Afghan civilians for taking part in music event ‎

Seventeen civilians, including three women, who were at a picnic were beheaded by Taliban militants at Musa Qala district in Afghanistan’s southern province of Helmand on Sunday night, an official said on Monday.

“The incident happened in Roshan Abad neighbourhood, a remote area in Musa Qala district, late Sunday evening,” administrative district chief Nematullah told Xinhua.

Some of the slain non-combatants were beaten and others were shot dead, he said.

The area is under Taliban control and the reason for killing the innocent civilians was not clear so far, he said.

Akshay Kumar to act in Priyadarshan’s AIDS film?

If all goes well then Akshay Kumar will be starring in Priyadarshan’s much-awaited film based on AIDS, which is aiming at international festival circuits.

“Akshay knows the subject. I have not given him the script yet. We may go with Akshay and if not him then newcomers will be roped in. Whatever I tell him he will do because of the rapport and great relation that we share,” Priyadarshan told PTI.

“I have never forced anybody to do a film with me and I will not do that ever. If he is interested I will do it with him,” he said.

Kareena’s birthday surprise for Bhandarkar

Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar was in for a surprise when actress Kareena Kapoor decided to celebrate his birthday on the sets of “Heroine”.

While dubbing for the film, Kareena surprised Bhandakar with a birthday cake and also gathered all the crew members to wish the director on his special day.

“I am either working or out on a family trip on my birthday. It was very sweet of Bebo (Kareena) to give me this birthday surprise,” said Bhandarkar, who turned 43 Sunday.

Slovenian accordionist sets new world record

Slovenian accordionist Zoran Zorko has set a new Guinness world record with a marathon accordion performances that lasted 35 hours and 32 minutes, Xinhua reported.

Zorko’s record was set during performances in Ljubljana’s Congress Square, the lakeside resort of Bled, and an accordion festival in the border town of Brezice between Thursday and Sunday.

Finland’s Anssi Laitinen held the previous record by continuously playing for 31 hours and 25 minutes in 2010.

Under Guinness rules, Zorko had to play the accordion continuously with a maximum of 30-second breaks between songs.

Girl suffocates to death in hole dug at beach

A 12-year-old Italian girl on vacation with her family in France died from suffocation in a hole she dug at a beach.

The girl’s death was confirmed by the Italian foreign ministry.

The victim suffocated in a hole she dug at the La Teste-de-Buch beach near Gironda.

Lifeguards alerted medics after the girl was spotted partially buried.

Witnesses said they saw a “happy girl” who spent hours digging the hole which would later take her life.

Arjun Rampal no more part of ‘Zanjeer’ remake

Actor Arjun Rampal is no longer part of Apoorva Lakhia’s remake of “Zanjeer”. He was earlier slated to essay the part of Sher Khan, played by Pran in the 1973 original, but date hassles played spoilsport.

“Arjun Rampal is not doing the film. He had some date issues so he could not do the film,” Lakhia told IANS.

The role was reportedly first offered to Sanjay Dutt even before Arjun was approached for it. But Lakhia dismissed it as mere speculation.

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who is currently shooting in the Kashmir Valley for Yash Chopra’s next, was greeted with wet roads and dark clouds as he geared up to kickstart his early morning film schedule.

Govt To Take Jet Aircraft On Lease

The State government has decided to take a special jet aircraft that could carry VIPs even in inclement weather on lease.

The government feels that the new aircraft would solve the problem of the timings of regular commercial services not being suitable for VVIP movements. Eight persons could travel by this aircraft non-stop for four hours.

Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chattisgarh have purchased this aircraft. The State government has felt that it could minimize the expenditure by taking it on lease.
