An Indian woman, who left her country and religion to marry a Pakistani man, claims that her husband has locked her up in a small room on the roof of their house here for the past 13 years.

Shirley Ann Hodges married Gul Muhammad Khan, a Pakistani money lender, after meeting him in Ahmedabad city of Gujarat in the summer of 1997. She changed her name to Shabnam Gul Khan and came to Pakistan in 2000 with her newborn daughter.

At the time, Khan said they were going to Pakistan to meet his family and that they would return to India within six months.

Don’t need certificate of responsibility: BJP

Hitting back Congress President Sonia Gandhi on the issue of Parliament disruption, BJP today said it did not need a certificate of responsibility from Congress party.

It also reminded Congress of accountability towards Parliament and said it wants to hold a debate on the coal blocks allocation issue only for the sake of it.

Responding to Gandhi’s attack against it for not allowing Parliament to function, the opposition party said, “We don’t need a certificate of responsibility from Congress, we need conduct of accountability from them.”

Saudi SIM cards for Indian Haj pilgrims

For the first time, Indian Haj pilgrims will get SIM cards of Saudi Telecom company at a nominal cost before commencing for the pilgrimage, officials said.

“It will have talk time of 5 Saudi Riyals and incoming calls can be received with zero balance also. The SIM will be preloaded with contact numbers of all concerned officials of the Consulate as well as other important numbers,” Indian Consulate in Jeddah has said.

Number of missing people rising in AP

With an alarming rise in cases of missing people, especially women and children, since 2009, the Andhra Pradesh police have taken several measures to trace them in co-ordination with various agencies and police force from other states.

According to data available with the CID, there was an upward graph in the number of missing persons including women and children during the last four years. A total of 47,936 went missing since 2009. Of them 13,120 were women, 11,104 female children and 5,926 male children.

(Siasat News): A lover who failed in his affair committed suicide in the outskirts of the city.

This incident occurred in L B Nagar police station limits where Nitish, 21, took the extreme step by hanging. He has been working in a TV channel as video editor.

He was in love with a girl but it was a one-sided affair, as the girl did not reciprocate. Nitish was very upset over this and ended his life.

Police has registered a case and further investigations are on.

Sensex down 40 points, metal, consumer durable stocks falls

A benchmark index of Indian equities markets was trading 40 points lower in afternoon trade Tuesday after heavy selling in metal, consumer durables and capital goods stocks.

The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 17,676.13 points, was ruling at 17,638.35 points, 0.23 percent or 40.46 points down from its previous day’s close at 17,678.81 points.

The Sensex touched a high of 17,712.35 points and a low of 17,631.37 points in intra-day trade.

Six die in shootout at Brazil nightclub

Six people were killed and 14 wounded in a gunfight at a nightclub in the southeastern Brazilian city of Belo Horizonte, police said Monday, blaming the violence on a dispute between gangs.

Scores of people were inside the club late Sunday night when two armed men burst in as a band was playing and started firing indiscriminately.

One of the intruders was carrying a military-issue submachine gun, police said.

Several club patrons drew guns and returned fire, fatally wounding the attacker with the submachine gun, while the other assailant fled on a motorcycle.

UP minister Azam Khan abuses IAS officer publicly

Uttar Pradesh’s Urban Development Minister Azam Khan publicly scolded and abused an IAS officer at a meeting on Monday.

The officer of the Indian Administrative Services was abused after he sought to explain why two other officers were missing from the meeting of the senior bureaucrats.

Azam Khan was furious at the Principal Secretary and the Chief Secretary of the Urban Development Department skipping the meeting. When the minister asked as to why the two were absent, the Special Secretary said the duo was busy with some other work.

One killed, many injured as LPG tanker explodes

A woman was killed when an LPG tanker lorry burst into flames after an accident and set her house nearby on fire, police here said on Tuesday. Thirty-four people were injured in the accident.

The incident occurred when the lorry carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) overturned after hitting a divider around 11.30 pm on Monday.

While the driver and a helper ran for safety, the vehicle caught fire and the flames engulfed five houses and some shops nearby.

Yesterday, the police had conducted fresh raids at Kanda’s house in SIrsa and are questioning him about his relationship with Geetika, who committed suicide on August 5.

In her suicide note, the former air hostess had named Kanda and his close aide Aruna Chaddha as being responsible for forcing her to commit suicide.
