Nair takes charge of NABARD in Andhra Pradesh

Mr K Ramachandran Nair, Chief General Manager has taken over as the Head of the Andhra Pradesh Regional Office of NABARD here with effect from August 27. He replaced Mr P.Mohanaiah who has been posted to the Head Office of NABARD at Mumbai, a release from NABARD here said today. Mr Nair began his career as a direct recruit officer with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in 1980 and opted to serve NABARD from 1983 onwards. He has specialised in all aspects of rural finance. The core area where he has contributed is opening up of new avenues of rural infrastructure financing, including PPP models.

Companies with more women in top positions tend to huge profits

Companies with more women in executive positions tend to have higher profits, according to a study made by Professor Roy Adler of Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. In a book ‘Gender Diversity in Board Rooms, published and released by the Insitute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) on the occasion of Corporation Governance week here today, the study said it tracked 215 Fortune 500 companies through an extensive 19-year study of the firms which showed a strong correlation betweern a strong record of promoting women into the executive suite and high profitability.

Man dies under suspicious circumstances in police station

A person, who was brought to police station in a criminal case, died under suspicious circumstances here today.

Police said in a dowry harassment case, police brought T Shankar (31) to the Machavaram Police Station.

Sometime later, he fell unconscious. He was immediately shifted to the Government Hospital where he was declared dead. Knowing this, the relatives of the deceased complained that he was tortured by the police in the station. However, the police denied the charge.

Don’t play with fire, Mamata warns opponents

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Tuesday warned her detractors and opponents not to play with fire by fomenting riots in the state.

Addressing the foundation day programme of the Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad, Banerjee said she has information that “some people” opposed to her were trying to spark trouble in the state.

“I warn them. Don’t play with fire. Don’t try to start riots. I know who all are behind such conspiracies.”

Banerjee said her opponents would not succeed in their “nefarious plans”.

First flight for Haj 2012 on Oct 6

Haj Committee of India today said that the first flight for Haj is on October 6 from embarkation point Hyd erabad. In a release, Haj Committee Member Dr Salim Raj today said that as per the flight schedule, the departure of pilgrims will be organised from October 6 to 19 and after the pilgrimage Haji will arrived back from November 16 to 30. The flight arrangement by Saudi Airways from embarkation point Hyderabad in the same as lsat year. a total 300 Hajis will depart from Jeddah and arrive Hyderabad from Madina Sharif directly, Dr Salim added. Stop all settlement activities: India asks Israel

India today asked Israel to stop all settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territories and emphasised that it supports a negotiated solution resulting in a “sovereign, independent, viable and united state of Palestine”.

“The Palestinian cause is of paramount importance to India. In fact, India was the first non-Arab country to recognise the state of Palestine on November 16, 1988, pursuant to the Algiers Declaration of November, 15 1988,” External Affairs Minister S M Krishna said today.

A global business meet to provide a platform to the Indian diaspora will be held in New York next month by New Global Indian Foundation (NGIF), a representative said here Tuesday.

Red Cross to resume operations in Pak at reduced scale

The Red Cross today said its operations in Pakistan will resume at a “reduced scale” following a review undertaken after the brutal murder of a British aid worker in the restive Balochistan province.

Following a thorough review of its activities, the International Committee has “reiterated its commitment to
carry on with its work in Pakistan but on a reduced scale”, said a statement from the organisation.

The ICRC has decided to terminate all activities for people affected by the current unrest in Balochistan,
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and the tribal areas.

Being part of ‘Heroine’ was my destiny: Kareena

Actress Kareena Kapoor feels she was destined to do director Madhur Bhandarkar’s “Heroine” and says the film is very close to her heart.

Bhandarkar first offered the lead role to Kareena but she couldn’t do it due to date issues and it went to Aishwarya Rai. However, Aishwarya subsequently opted out due to pregnancy.

Model-actress Malaika Arora, who made a mark in Bollywood with her hit item number “Chhaiya Chhaiya” in the 1998 film “Dil Se”, gets nostalgic at the mere mention of the song.

“Nostalgic! I still remember that shoot, I still remember every step, every moment and it just makes me smile,” the 39-year-old said here Monday at a dance academy.

She has done quite a few item numbers so far. When asked about her personal favourite, she said: “I would definitely say ‘Munni’ (from ‘Dabangg’) because it was our film.”

Police intervenes in Pakistani MP’s route

Police intervened in the route of a Pakistani MP, who was scheduled to leave for Wagah border by road, as it included a restricted place in the district.

Pakistani MP Abdus Sattar had arrived here on Sunday evening and after meeting a member of erstwhile royal family
and others, he was scheduled to leave for Wagah border yesterday, police said.

His route included Naachna area for which visitors are required to take separate permission from Jaisalmer district
administration and the same was communicated to him, SHO Naachna, Gautam Dodasara, said today.

Dominguez, who moved to New York with her parents as a child, two years ago founded World of Margarita, a company that offers advertisers Walking Bill-bods.

“People really like it. They take photos of me. I think it’s a good idea to promote a product,” Dominguez, who goes to the gym two hours a day to keep herself in shape, told EFE.

Israel among top arms exporters in world: Report

Israel is one of the top exporters of weapons, with sales worth $12.9 billion between 2004 and 2011, according to a newly-released American report examining global arms’ transfers.

According to the report, Israel is not only one of the world’s top arms exporters but also one of the biggest buyers, and it exports weapons mainly to developing countries.

The report titled Conventional Arms Transfers to Developing Nations prepared by the Congressional Research Service (CRS), reported Xinhua citing the Globes economic daily.

Woman suicide bomber kills six in Russia

A woman suicide bomber killed six people in Russia’s southwestern Dagestan region Tuesday, according to local officials.

The attack was carried out in the village of Chirkey, killed a religious scholar and his five followers, Xinhua quoted a spokesperson of the local Investigation Committee as telling reporters.

A spokesperson of the Dagestan Interior Ministry confirmed the toll and identified the scholar as Sheikh Said Afandi.

India U-19 cricket team gets heroes welcome
