Pakistan: ‘Imran Khan’s home attacked’

The party of Pakistan vote hopeful Imran Khan said Wednesday that “a horde of 100 miscreants” attacked his home and beat up his brother-in-law, as it accused the government of failing to provide security.

Islamabad police denied there had been any break-in at the hill-top villa of the cricket legend, a major contender in general elections next month, and blamed any disturbance on members of his own Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf party.

Tibetan woman immolates herself

A young mother died after setting herself on fire to protest Chinese rule, prompting thousands of people to gather near her home and the monastery where the self-immolation occurred.

Chugtso, 20, set herself ablaze Tuesday near Dzamthang county’s Jonang monastery, in Sichuan province, bringing to 116 the number of people who have killed themselves in this fashion since 2009, Radio Free Asia (RFA) said.

The woman, who leaves behind a husband and a three-year-old son, died shortly after the flames engulfed her near the monastery. Neighbours later carried her remains to her home.

Obama ricin letter case: Mississippi man arrested

A letter addressed to President Barack Obama tested positive for ricin, and authorities arrested a suspect, stoking alarm in Washington on Wednesday after an earlier scare over poisoned mail.

The FBI said there was no connection between blasts at the Boston marathon that killed three people on Monday and mailings sent to Obama, Republican Senator Roger Wicker and an unidentified Mississippi justice official.

Boston marathon blasts: CCTV shows suspect’s image

US investigators on Wednesday said they found an image of a suspect who may have planted the homemade bombs that killed three people and maimed scores more at the Boston marathon.

The image could mark a breakthrough in the hunt for perpetrators, two days after the explosions that wounded 180 people. President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama will visit the city Thursday in a show of solidarity.

Musharraf flees as court orders his arrest

Former president Pervez Musharraf Thursday fled from the Islamabad High Court premises after the court dismissed his bail extension plea and ordered his arrest.

The Islamabad High Court dismissed Musharraf’s interim bail extension plea and ordered his arrest in a case related to the confinement of judges in 2007, Geo News reported.

Accompanied by his guards, Musharraf appeared before court to seek an extension in his bail. However, the court dismissed his plea and ordered his arrest.

Pakistan court orders Musharraf’s arrest

A Pakistani court Thursday ordered the arrest of former president Pervez Musharraf, a media report said. The former president managed to escape with his private security guards from the court here.

The Islamabad High Court Thursday dismissed Musharraf’s interim bail extension plea and ordered his arrest in a case related to the confinement of judges in 2007, Geo News reported.

Eight Indian runners in Boston marathon are safe

All the eight Indians who participated in the ill-fated Boston Marathon escaped unhurt from the deadly twin blasts at the finish line with one hailed as a hero for acting as saviour to the victims.

Dr. Vivek Shah, an Indian American orthopaedic surgeon at Boston’s New England Baptist Hospital, was 25 yards away from finishing the 26.2-mile run when the twin blasts occurred.

North Korea wants end to US-South Korea drills for talks to start

North Korea laid out onerous conditions Thursday for any talks with Seoul or Washington, including the withdrawal of UN sanctions and a guaranteed end to South Korea-US joint military drills.

“If the US and the South enemies… genuinely want dialogue and negotiation, they should take these steps,” the North’s National Defence Commission said in a statement.

The conditions are almost certain to be rejected outright by both South Korea and the United States, which have themselves made dialogue conditional on the North taking steps towards denuclearisation.

PM condoles loss of lives in earthquake in Pak, Iran

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday wrote to the Presidents of Pakistan and Iran condoling the loss of lives in the earthquake.

In a letter to President Asif Ali Zardari, Singh said, “I was deeply saddened to learn of the damage and loss of life caused in Pakistan following the earthquake that struck the eastern region of Iran yesterday.”

He expressed hoped the impact of the earthquake has been minimal.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who have lost their dear ones, sustained injuries or suffered damage to their property,” he said.

China unwilling to move on Brahmaputra joint mechanism

Days after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh voiced India’s concerns over dam construction on the Brahmaputra river by China and proposed a joint mechanism during talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Beijing is believed to have not shown willingness to move on the issue.

During his meeting with President Xi in Durban, Manmohan Singh had sought a joint mechanism to assess the construction work on dams on the Brahmaputra river in Tibet.

India accounts for one third of the world poor: World Bank

India accounts for one-third of the world poor, people living on less than USD 1.25 (about Rs 65) per day, a World Bank report on poverty has said.

The report said that 1.2 billion people still living in extreme poverty across the world.

“The State of the Poor: Where are the Poor and Where are the Poorest?,” using data released in the latest World Development Indicators, shows that extreme poverty headcount rates have fallen in every developing region between 1981 and 2010 from half the citizens in the developing world to 21 percent.

Demand to install Allauddin’s Statue in Parliament

Voice of Telangana and 1969 Founder Forum for Telangana struggle have strongly demanded Dr. Manmohan Singh, PM of India and Ms. Meera Kumar, Speaker of Lok Sabha to install the statue of Maulvi Alauddin who was the first freedom fighter for the Indian Independence who died in prison in Andaman. In order to commemorate his services and sacrifices, it is a befitting tribute to him that his statue is erected in Parliament Hall. Govt. should stop politics on Urdu

History of India is linked with Urdu language. It played a major role in the freedom struggle of India. Today, Govt. is doing politics in the name of Urdu. It is making lofty claims about the development of Urdu which are not enough. Urdu language can not progress by writing the names of departments and shops in Urdu. By taking oaths in Urud in the portals of legislatures also Urdu can’t be developed. Urdu language could be developed only when the syllabus of Urdu is made compulsory right from school level and Urdu teachers appointed to teach Urdu in schools.

TDP MLA of Karimnagar, Mr. G. Kamalakar has announced his resignation from TDP. He had informed Mr. KCR about his intention to join TRS. He told that he has already sent his resignation to TDP. He will join TRS on 25th April in the presence of Mr. K. Chandrasekahara Rao, president of TRS.

He told that he had struggled for separate Telangana State while he was in TDP but people are not believing him. He told that TRS would emerge as a great force in Telangana after the elections of 2014.
