Police action against Telangana journalists and lawyers condemned

Telangana Rashtra Samithi and Telangana Political Joint Action Committee demanded judicial enquiry of the police action against the journalists and lawyers on the occasion of the release of an anti-Telangana book at Press Club, Basheerbagh two days back.

They also condemned the release of book opposed to Telangana.

Mr. T. Harish Rao, MLA, Mr. K. Tarakarama Rao, MLA, Prof. Kodandaram, President of Telangana Joint Action Committee, Mr. Srinivas Goud, Mr. K. Vithal and other leaders went to hospital to enquire about the health of the injured journalists and expressed their sympathies.

Muslim Education Conference on Sunday

In order to promote educational awareness among the Muslims, Muslim Education Society AP unit is holding a conference at 10: 00 am on Sunday 21st April at Indira Priya Darshini Auditorium, Public Garden. It will be presided over by Mr. Asif Pasha, former Minister and president of the society.

Talking to newsmen today, Mr. Asif Pasha told that various issues concerning the education of the Muslims would be discussed in the conference.

A meeting of the distinguished citizens of Hyderabad was held at Aligarh Club on 14th April under the Chairmanship of Mr. Asif Pasha, former Minister and President of Elders’ Think Tank.

PCB chief offers to host 2019 World Cup qualifiers despite ICC suspension

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohammad Zaka Ashraf has said that he had requested the International Cricket Council (ICC) to host qualifiers for the 2019 World Cup despite a four-year suspension of international cricket in the country over security fears. Foreign teams have shunned tours to the troubled country over security fears, forcing the ICC to shift Pakistan`s share of matches for the World Cup in 2011, the Daily Times reports.

6.9-magnitude quake strikes off Russia”s Kuril Islands

A 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck near Russia”s Kuril Islands on Friday, the news agency RIA Novosti reported.

The quake occurred at 15:05 local time (0305 GMT) with its epicenter at a depth of 33 km.

So far, there have been no reports of casualties or property damage. No tsunami warning has been issued. Further details are awaited. (Xinhua-ANI)

Man held for posting morphed photo of Odisha minister

A 29-year-old man in Odisha has been arrested for allegedly posting several morphed, “obscene” photographs and videos of a state minister and a girl on different websites, an official said Friday.

The accused, Siddharth Sankar Pati, a resident of Jeypore town in Koraput district, about 520 km from here, was arrested Thursday. He allegedly doctored the photographs and videos of state Minister for Mass Education Rabi Narayan Nanda and a girl and posted them on various websites a few months ago.

Dawood aide Tiger Hanif to be extradited to India:

Tiger Hanif, a close aide of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and wanted in India in connection with two bomb attacks in Gujarat in 1993, has lost his appeal in a UK High Court against extradition to India.

Reports on Friday said that Hanif alias Mohammed Hanif Umerji Patel, 51, was traced to a grocery store in Bolton, Greater Manchester in March 2010.

He is believed to be a close associate of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.

Metropolitan Police arrested Hanif in February 2010 on an extradition warrant that alleged conspiracy to murder and conspiracy to cause explosions.

Singers today have more space and work, says Shreya Ghoshal

Playback singer Shreya Ghoshal feels these days artists have a lot of space and work compared to earlier, when there were only a handful of singers.

Despite the fact that a lot of singers enter filmdom every year, Shreya says there is opportunity for everyone.

“I think today there is space and work available for everyone out here. Earlier the scenario was different. Like there was a time when there was monopoly, only two or three singers would get to sing…It was difficult that time,” Shreya said in an interview here.

Musharraf’s farmhouse declared sub-jail

Pervez Musharraf’s sprawling farmhouse here was declared a sub-jail Friday after the former Pakistani president was arrested, a media report said.

Musharraf was arrested Friday, a day after he fled from the Islamabad High Court which had ordered his arrest in a 2007 case related to the detention of senior judges.

Dawn reported that Pervez Musharraf’s farmhouse at Chak Shahzad on the outskirts of Islamabad was declared sub-jail Friday. He appeared in the court of a judicial magistrate in Islamabad after which he left for his farmhouse.

Police officer shot at in US

A police officer was shot at in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) campus Thursday night, authorities said.

MIT reported on its website that gunshots were reported late in the night on campus, and police said a MIT police officer has been shot.

According to MIT, gunshots were reported at 10.48 p.m. near Building 32.

Media quoted police as saying an MIT police officer has been shot with life threatening injuries.

Authorities investigating an “active shooter incident”.

Need to bridge gap between rural, urban: Kalam

The gap between urban and rural should be bridged for overall development of the country, former President and ‘Missile Man of India’ A P J Abdul Kalam said on Thursday.

Addressing engineering students of Chandigarh University during a convocation ceremony at Landran near here, Kalam said development of rural areas was the need of the hour as the real power of the country lies in its villages.

Sharing his vision of making India a world power till 2020, Kalam said there was a need to bridge the gap between urban and the rural areas for the country’s all round development.

Finance Minister P Chidambaram and actor Aamir Khan have been named by Time magazine among the 100 most influential people in the world in its annual list of global achievers that also includes teenaged Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzai and US President Barack Obama.

Describing Indian politicians as typically being “warm and fuzzy, chronically late and terribly imprecise”, Time says Chidambaram, 67, is “detail-oriented, works from 8 to 8 and has a reputation for getting a lot done.”

Former Pakistani president Pervez Musharraf was arrested Friday, a day after he fled the Islamabad High Court that ordered his arrest.

Police arrested Musharaf from his Chak Shahzad farmhouse, Geo News reported Friday.
A police official has requested a court to consider his house as sub-jail due to security issues and threat to his life.

Musharraf Thursday fled from the Islamabad High Court after it had ordered his arrest in a 2007 case and remained closeted in his farmhouse with police blocking access to it.

US agents on the lookout for ‘extremely dangerous’ Boston duo (Lead)

Describing them as possibly armed and “extremely dangerous”, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has released pictures and videos of two men with a direct appeal to the public to help them find the prime suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing that killed three people and wounded about 180.

The men were photographed walking down Boylston Street, one behind the other, near the marathon finish line where two near-simultaneous blasts went off at 2.50 p.m. Monday, killing three people and wounding about 180.

Abu Dhabi, Mauritania hold talks

Abu Dhabhi and Mauritania have held talks to reinforce bilateral relations to serve common interests of the two countries and people.

The meet was held between Sheikh Saeed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi ruler’s representative and Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz here.

Sheikh Saeed is in Nouakchott on the occasion of inaugurating the largest solar power plant in Africa — 15-megawatt Sheikh Zayed Solar Power Plant.

Sehwag the bowler finally makes a comeback

The sight of Virender Sehwag bowling his innocuous off-spin has become a rarity but against the Chennai Super Kings, the Delhi Daredevils player finally made a comeback after a long gap.

Sehwag rolled his arm over just once, bowling the seventh over of the Super Kings innings and giving away nine runs.

The Delhi dasher in 25 innings has bowled 340 balls giving away 469 runs and has taken 22 wickets at an economy rate of 8.27 runs per over.

In International T20s, Sehwag has bowled just six balls in which he gave away 20 runs.

Class 3 boy crushed by container

A Class 3 boy was crushed to death by a speeding container here while he was on his way to school, police said Thursday. The driver of the vehicle is absconding.

Raje was killed when he was going to his government school in east Delhi’s Harsh Vihar around 7 a.m. Wednesday. He lived in the same area.

“The errant driver fled from the spot after leaving the container,” a police officer said.

Bollywood star Aamir Khan has been featured on one of the seven special covers of the Time magazine listing the world’s 100 most influential people.

The list includes Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, Delhi lawyer Vrinda Grover and California’s Indian-American attorney general Kamala Harris besides teenaged Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzai and US President Barack Obama.

I hope ‘Go Goa Gone’ doesn’t get banned: Saif

Actor-producer Saif Ali Khan, who was seen using abusive language in ‘Go Goa Gone’, quips that he is hoping that the film gets ‘A’ certificate and doesn’t get banned.

“The dialogues in the film have Russian and Hindi galis (abuses)… I just hope the film gets an ‘A’ certificate and doesn’t get banned at the censors,” a smiling Saif told reporters during the film’s music launch.

HCL to supply laptops for Chhattisgarh distribution scheme

HCL Infosystems has bagged a major contract from Chhattisgarh’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government for supply of laptops to final year engineering and medical students in the state, official sources said on Thursday.

Officials said that the contract has been placed by Infotech & Biotech Promotion Society (CHiPS), the nodal agency for procurement of laptops. The laptops to be distributed by Chief Minister Raman Singh during his six-phase Vikas Yatra, starting from on May 6 from Maoist heartland Dantewada.

Heritage education for youth important, say educators

Educating youngsters about heritage and culture is as important as awareness about other issues, said educators and heritage conservationists here Thursday on the occasion of the World Heritage Day.

Haryana youth commits suicide, a day after girlfriend

Just a day after his girlfriend committed suicide, a yoth studying at the Maharishi Dayanand University (MDU) here ended his life by consuming a poisonous substance, police said Thursday.

The youth, Trilok Chand, 28, who was pursuing post-graduation at MDU, consumed Celphos tablets after he came to know that the girl, Anu, with whom he had an affair, had killed herself by hanging in her hostel room Wednesday evening. Anu’s body was found hanging in her room Wednesday evening.

American people refuse to be terrorised: Obama

Taking up the mantle of healer-in-chief after Monday’s terror attack in Boston, President Barack Obama Thursday declared that the American people refuse to be terrorised and whoever is behind the bombings will be caught.

“Yes, we will find you. And yes, you will face justice,” Obama said at “Healing Our City: An Interfaith Service” in Boston dedicated to the three people killed and over 180 injured in Monday’s bombing near the finish line of the Boston Marathon.
