There are a number of abandoned and helpless women in Hyderabad. Some are victims of domestic violence while others are abandoned by their own children. There is no dearth of women who are living alone after the death of their husbands. For such abandoned and helpless women some Muslim women of the city have formed a rescue home named ‘Sukoonat’. We can call it as the first Asra Ghar established by Muslim women in Hyderabad.

India is not imposing restrictions on investments: Chidambaram

Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Friday rejected suggestions that India is imposing restrictions on investments and said the country’s economy is opening up in a gradual manner.

“I think the right way to look at it is we are not restricting. We are opening up in a gradual manner. Where were we in 1991. What are we today, in 2013? In the space of 22 years we have opened practically 90 per cent of India’s economy,” Chidambaram told the popular Charlie Rose Show in an interview.

Wipro Q4 net up 16.73% at Rs 1,728.7 crore

IT major Wipro Ltd on Friday reported 16.73 percent increase in net profit to Rs 1,728.7 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 31, 2013.

The country’s third largest software services firm’s net profit stood at Rs 1,480.9 crore in the year-ago period.

The consolidated total income of the company rose by 13 percent to Rs 9,613.1 crore for the January-March quarter in 2013-13 fiscal as against Rs 8,506.1 crore in the same period of 2011-12 fiscal, it said in a filing to the BSE.

Hacking collective Anonymous launches ‘citizen journalism site’

Notorious Internet hacking collective Anonymous has launched a citizen journalism site that aims to collect breaking reports and blogs.

The site, Your Anon News, will include feeds for livestream events “as they are taking place instead of the 10-second sound bites provided by the corporate media”.

The group has raised 54,798 dollars to get the site up and running, the BBC reports.

According to the report, the aim of the site is to bring together and expand its Your Anon news (YAN) service that currently runs on Twitter, Facebook and Tumblr.

New keyboard for superfast typing on touchscreens

The research team used computational optimisation techniques in conjunction with a model of thumb movement to search among millions of potential layouts before identifying one that yields superior performance.

Not just a guest appearance in ‘Go Goa Gone’: Saif

Actor Saif Ali Khan, who plays the role of a zombie slayer named Boris in his forthcoming co-production “Go Goa Gone”, says his part is more than just a guest appearance.

“I wouldn’t say it’s just something like a guest appearance, there is a role there,” the 42-year-old said here Thursday at the film’s music launch.

“I am happy that if people have liked what they have seen in the trailer. I am confident that they’ll enjoy the role in the movie,” he added.

2 new Earth-like planets orbiting Sun-like star found

Scientists have discovered two Earth-like planets in the habitable orbit of a Sun-like star.

Using observations gathered by NASA’s Kepler Mission , the team, led by William Borucki of the NASA Ames Research Center, found five planets orbiting a Sun-like star called Kepler-62.

Super slow-motion footage of a moth in flight has revealed how insects use their bodies to hover.

The moth moves its body by pivoting its abdomen up and down to fine-tune the forces that keep the insect airborne, the BBC reported.

The researchers are studying insect flight in order to “distil the biological principles of flight control “.

This, they say, will help them to accurately engineer flying robots that use these same principles.

As an insect’s wings move through the air, they are held at a slight angle, which deflects the air downward.

Wipro meets forecast but projects flat growth

Wipro Ltd. has met its revenue forecast for its global IT services in the fourth quarter (January-March) of the 2012-13 fiscal, but projected flat growth for the first quarter (April-June) of this fiscal (2013-14) in dollar terms, as the global environment continues to be challenging.

Though IT services revenue grew 13 percent year-on-year (YoY) in rupee terms to Rs.8,554 crore (Rs.85.54 billion) in the quarter under review (Q4), growth in dollar terms was 3.2 percent YoY and 0.5 percent sequentially to $1.59 billion as projected in mid-January.

Riya Vij, who is making her acting debut with Karan Johar’s ‘Gippi’, says she never dreamt of acting in movies but wanted to be like Kareena Kapoor.

“When I was very small, I wanted to become an actress. Whenever I used to watch movies I was fascinated with glamour and the whole feel of being a heroine. I wanted to become like Kareena Kapoor,” Riya told PTI in an interview.

Sheila Dikshit undergoes sinus surgery

Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit Friday underwent a surgery for sinusitis in a city hospital, doctors said.

Dikshit, 75, was operated for functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) at Fortis Escorts Heart Institute.

“Dikshit was operated Friday under the care of her personal cardiologist Ashok Seth at Fortis Escorts Heart Institute by her personal ENT consultant Devinder Rai from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital,” said an official statement from the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.

According to doctors, Dikshit was suffering from sinusitis since one year.

2G JPC report a Congress document, says BJP

The draft report of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on 2G spectrum allocation appeared to be a Congress document, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said Friday while labelling its leakage to the media a “gross breach of parliamentary propriety”.

“The draft report of the JPC on 2G issues has been widely reported in the media. This is a gross breach of well settled parliamentary propriety where any report/draft is debated, discussed, amendments are moved in the formal meeting and thereafter a view is taken,” said BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad.

Musharraf remanded to two days in custody

Former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf was today arrested from his farmhouse in a case relating to sacking of judges, a day after he dramatically fled the court to avoid detention, and remanded to two days in custody, becoming the first ex-army chief to face such action.

Police officials arrested the 69-year-old former military strongman this morning and took him to the court of judicial magistrate Muhammad Abbas Shah.

Pak cricket recommends 40 players for new contract list

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said that the names of 40 players have been recommended by the selection committee for this years` central contract list, according to an official. This comes in the heels of players` annoyance over PCB`s delay in announcing the new central contract list despite the passage of almost four months since the former contracts expired at the end of 2012, the Express Tribune reports. The official further said that the new list will be finalised by the panel for central contracts headed by PCB`s Director General Javed Miandad.

Carbon dating of a wooden beam from a Guatemalan temple has confirmed the end date of the Mayan Long Count calendar.

It validated that the calendar did end on December 2012, leaving no room for further doomsday prophecies and miscalculations claims, the Fox News reported.

The Long Count is a complex system of bars and dots that consists of five time units: Bak’tun (144,000 days); K’atun (7,200 days), Tun (360 days), Winal (20 days) and K’in (one day).

I`m not against remakes: Sharmiela Mandre

Southern actress Sharmiela Mandre, who has featured in remakes such as ‘Sajni’ and ‘Mirattal’, supports the idea of revisiting old classics because she feels such films are tested and proven.

“I don`t see the need to oppose remakes. Most films are being remade because the original has been tested and proven. Today, most big-budget films in Bollywood are southern remakes,” Sharmiela told IANS.

However, she clarifies that she would do remakes only if it would offer her a substantial role to play.

The finding confirmed that increasing the convenience of fruit increases consumption.

Previous studies and surveys have shown that kids love to eat fruit in ready-to-eat bite-sized pieces, yet in most school settings, the fruit is served whole, which could be the cause that children are taking fruits but not eating them.

Gene that regenerates heart tissue identified

Scientists have identified a specific gene that regulates the heart`s ability to regenerate after injuries.

Researchers at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center identified the previously unknown function of the gene, called Meis1, in the heart.

“We found that the activity of the Meis1 gene increases significantly in heart cells soon after birth, right around the time heart muscle cells stop dividing,” said Dr Hesham Sadek, assistant professor of internal medicine in the division of cardiology, and senior author of the study.

As per the details, watchman Ramulu has been working as a watchman in an apartment in Srinagar colony. He had sold a plot owned by him in Hafizpet for Rs. 10 lakh.
