The Boston Marathon bombing suspect, who was killed in a shootout with the police, was reportedly a fan of a radical Australian Muslim cleric, who despises Harry Potter and preaches that rape victims only have themselves to blame.

The suspect, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, had posted a YouTube video of a 2007 British documentary called ‘ Undercover Mosque’, which shows the cleric Sheik Feiz Mohammad encouraging children to have a zeal for jihad and become martyrs for Islam, the New York Post reports.

China’s nuclear engagement with Pakistan potentially remains the most destabilizing factor in the global management of nuclear weapons technology, a report has said.

In March, Beijing confirmed its plans to sell a new 1,000-megawatt nuclear reactor to Pakistan in a deal signed in February.

This pact was secretly concluded between the China National Nuclear Corp. (CNNC) and the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission.

Lebanon sheltering nearly 428,000 Syrian refugees: UNHRC

About 428, 000 Syrian refugees have fled their war-torn country to Lebanon, the UN Higher Refugees Council (UNHRC) has said in its latest report.

These refugees are being given aid by the UN agencies and Lebanese government, it adds.

The number of Syrian refugees, registered so far with the agency ‘s offices in Lebanon is 302,000, and there are more than 125,000, still waiting to complete their registration process, reported Xinhua citing UNHRC’s report.

SCR clarifies on Ramagundam rape case

The South Central Railway on Saturday clarified that the incident of rape of a girl on Friday took place outside the Ramagundem Railway Station and not in the station premises.

“It is clarified that the said condemnable incident took place outside the Railway Station premises at Ramagundam and not at the Station and the case is being dealt with by the local Police. The victim, who was on the platform, was apparently lured by a stranger on the promise of guiding her to get a train to her destination and led her to outside the Railway Station premises, the SCR said in a press release.

Refer Land Acquisition Bill to Select Committee: Brinda Karat

Maintaining that the Land Acquisition Bill dilutes the rights of tribals in scheduled areas, CPI(M) Politburo member Brinda Karat on Saturday demanded that the UPA government refer the proposed legislation to a Select Committee of Parliament for further discussion.

A broad consensus was reached among political parties on the contentious Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Bill, 2011, at a meeting convened by the government in New Delhi on April 18.

Inter first year result on Sunday

The Board of Intermediate will announce the results of Intermediate First Year exams on April 21.

As many as 9,86,052 students appeared for the Inter first year exams that were held from March 6 to March 19. A total of 10,10,915 candidates also appeared for the Inter Second Year exams whose results are likely to be announced on April 23.

The examination was held in a total of 2,633 examination centres which include 864 Government, 190 Aided and 1,579 Private centres. (INN)

Defence Ministry firms up new procurement policy

Stung by scams in acquisition from foreign vendors, the Defence Ministry on Saturday finalised a new procurement policy under which Indian public and private sector will be given first priority for military procurements and will help in plugging loopholes that allow corruption.

To avoid scams such as the AgustaWestland chopper deal and enhance transparency, the Ministry also approved a proposal under which Services headquarters would be required to freeze specifications of the desired products before they are approved by the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC).

A 40-year-old woman, said to be an “illiterate” Indian, was beaten, raped and given out-of-date food and passed between three middle-class families as a slave for many years in Britain, a daily reported.

The woman made desperate pleas for help to Hertfordshire police as well as charities and other state agencies. But when police officers spoke to her, one of her “powerful and well-connected abusers” was used as an interpreter, The Independent said.

Former Pakistani president Pervez Musharraf has shown lack of judgment in the past and every step he took backfired, an official who had worked the former army chief has revealed.

Retired brigadier Javed Hussain, a former Special Services Group officer, has known Musharraf since he served as a captain in the elite Pakistan Army group.

Hussain cited a number of examples of what he calls Musharraf’s failures as chief of the Pakistan Army, including going to war with India in 1999 and the Red Mosque operation in 2007, the Christian Science Monitor reports.

US teacher fired for `setting up porn sites on work laptop`

A high school teacher from California was fired for her alleged involvement in setting up of porn sites

on her work laptop, one of which was called mysluttyteacher.com.

The teacher, named Heidi Kaeslin, was dismissed from Lincoln High School in Stockton in 2012 after the unethical act came

into light, the New York Daily News reported.

A panel from the state Office of Administrative Hearings confirmed the ruling this week, stating that files found on the laptop

were indeed “pornographic, lewd, vulgar or repugnant.”

The Members also described the conduct as “immoral.”

Britain ready to work with any government in Pakistan

Britain is ready to work with any government that emerges after the upcoming general elections in Pakistan, British High Commissioner Adam Thomson has said.

“This year is particularly important as the upcoming elections are a crucial milestone in Pakistan’s democratic history… the first time in decades that there will have been a democratic transfer of power between one civilian government and another,” the Daily Times quoted the British envoy as saying.

The elections are scheduled to be held May 11.

UNICEF India condemns rape of five-year-old

UNICEF India Saturday condemned the rape of a five-year-old girl here and called for stronger and immediate action to improve safety for girls in the country.

“The rape that took place in the past days in Delhi where a five-year-old girl is now fighting for her life, is yet another sign that urgent and concerted action is needed to make sure that girls and women in India can feel and be safe on the streets, in school, at work and at home,” the organisation said in a statement.

71 killed, over 1,000 injured in China quake

At least 71 people were killed and more than 1,000 others injured Saturday when a massive earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale struck southwest China’s Sichuan province, officials said.

The earthquake hit Lushan county of Ya’an city at 8.02 a.m., Xinhua cited the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC) as saying.

More than 1,000 people were injured in the earthquake, the Lushan county publicity department said. Among those injured, 135 are in serious condition.

Firefighters pulled out 27 survivors from collapsed structures in Lushan, the ministry of public security said.

Delhi rape accused held in Bihar

A 25-year-old Delhi rape accused has been arrested from Bihar, police said Saturday. The name of the accused is Manoj, said the Police.

“Manoj has been arrested from Chiknauta village in Muzaffarpur district in Bihar late Friday night,” a senior officer told IANS.

The five-year-old rape victim was rescued by her family from her abductor’s house in east Delhi’s Gandhi Nagar area.

The victim is undergoing treatment at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi.

Pakistani political party’s office set ablaze

Unidentified assailants Saturday set on fire an election office belonging to a political party in Pakistan’s port city of Karachi, a media report said.

The office, situated in Nazimabad No.2 area, belonged to the Jamaat-e-Islami party, a party spokesman said.

He said that at the time of incident, only one worker was present inside the office, who was also “tortured by the attackers”.

It was not clear whether the worker was alive or dead.

The furniture of the office was destroyed in the fire.

Imran to kick-off poll campaign Sunday

Pakistani cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan will Sunday launch the election campaign of his Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) party, a media report said.

The general election is scheduled to be held May 11.

Imran will address rallies across the country and ask voters to cast their decision in favour of “change”, the Dawn reported.

An official statement from the party said that though the campaign was to be launched April 16, an intra-party row over the distribution of poll tickets, and an attack at Imran Khan’s home by the party’s protesting workers resulted in the delay.

Village head shot dead in Bhadoi

A village head was shot dead by unidentified persons in Kotwali area, police said here on Saturday.

Achche Lal Maurya (40) was shot at in Surhan while he was returning home late last night. He was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead, they said.

An FIR has been lodged, police said, adding that the motive behind the murder was not clear.
