According to the research, 63 percent of Australia’s workers consume an average of 1.02 cups of takeaway coffee every day, taking about 15 minutes per break, the Daily Telegraph reported.

Boston bombing suspects’ father calls son ‘true angel’

Washington, Apr 20 (ANI): The father of the suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing has described his son as a smart and accomplished ‘angel’, adding that brothers were set up.

Anzor Tsarnaev, the father of the suspects, spoke with Beth Knobel, an expert in Russian politics, she said he remains “absolutely in shock and denial” and insistent that his sons are “very good boys.”

According to CBS News, he said his son was “an intelligent boy” who was studying medicine.

US says Musharraf case should be resolved ‘solely in accordance with Pak’s laws’

Islamabad, Apr 20 (ANI); The United States has said the issue of former president Pervez Musharraf needs to be resolved “solely in accordance with Pakistan’s constitution and laws”.

The statement came from A spokesperson of the US embassy.

According to the Daily Times, the remarks underscored that “the US takes no position on the return of Musharraf or the legal proceedings against him”.

The spokesperson further said in the statement that the US reaffirms that it is backing democracy in Pakistan.

Three found guilty of ‘enslaving’, sexually abusing Indian woman in London

London, Apr 20 (ANI): Three London residents have been found guilty of physically and sexually abusing an Indian woman employed in their households as a nanny and a domestic worker, and also for treating her like a ‘slave’. Shamina Yousuf and Shashi Obhrai were found guilty of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and making a threat to kill, while Enkarta Balapovi was convicted for raping the mother of four, who belongs to the Indian city of Hyderabad, the BBC reports.

American Sikhs fear backlash following Boston bombings suspect`s identification

Another shame: 13-year-old gang-raped by eight men in Delhi

A 13-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by eight men, four of whom were known to her, police said Saturday. The incident comes even as the capital is witnessing outrage over the horrific rape of a five-year-old girl.

Three of the eight men have been arrested.

The victim and her 12-year-old brother were abducted by two men known to her on March 15 from outside her house at Farsh Bazar area in east Delhi and taken to Loni in the city outskirts, where she was gang-raped by the eight, a police officer said.
Four of the eight accused were known to the girl, the officer added.

Child rape: Protests across Delhi against police laxity

The brutal sexual assault on a five-year-old girl here has again brought protestors out on the streets, with crowds assembling at various places, including Police Headquarters, AIIMS and residences of Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi.

Five-year-old rape survivor critical, being shifted to Nagpur

A five-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped by a 35-year-old man in Ghansour town, is being shifted to Nagpur in neighbouring Maharashtra in an air ambulance as her condition remains serious. “After taking the consent of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, we are shifting the survivor from Jabalpur to Nagpur tonight by air ambulance as she continues to be in serious condition,” Minister of State for School Education and in-charge of Seoni district, Nanabhai Mahod said.

The TRS on Saturday voiced opposition to the allotment of iron ore mines at Bayyaram in Khammam district to Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, a Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) enterprise.

Mineral resources of Telangana region were being unjustifiably given to the RINL enterprise in coastal Andhra region, TRS MLA T Harish Rao alleged.

CBI should probe phone call records of Modi’s office: Sohrabuddin’s brother

Rubabuddin Shaikh, brother of alleged slain gangster Sohrabuddin Shaikh, has demanded that CBI should investigate phone call records of the office of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and senior IPS officers in connection with the Tulsiram Prajapati fake encounter case.

“Rubabuddin Shaikh has sought probe of telephone calls between the office of Chief Minister and senior IPS officers under Sec 173 (8) of the CrPC,” his lawyer Mukul Sinha said. The section allows further investigation after charge sheet is filed.

Outrage in Odisha after gang-rape

A 15-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped and gang-raped by three people in Odisha’s Kendrapada district sparking protests across the region, police said Saturday.

Three people, including a vehicle driver allegedly kidnapped the student Friday when she was on her way back home after witnessing a religious festival near her village Kantia, about 100 from here.

The incident came to light after the girl lodged a complaint with the police Saturday, police officer Tapas Pradhan said.

Kiran Bedi calls for change in mindset of people

Expressing shock over the rape of a five-year-old girl, former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer and activist Kiran Bedi on Saturday called for a change in the mindset of the people, and asked the parents to inculcate the right values in their son.

Musharraf’s farmhouse declared sub-jail, to be detained there

Hours after an anti-terrorism court remanded Pervez Musharraf to judicial custody, authorities on Saturday declared his sprawling farmhouse a “sub-jail” so that the former military ruler could be detained there.

The administration of Islamabad issued a formal notification declaring Mr. Musharraf’s farmhouse in the suburb of Chak Shahzad a sub-jail on Saturday afternoon.

An assistant jail superintendent and some policemen will be posted at the residence so that they can keep an eye on Mr. Musharraf and monitor his visitors, sources said.

Section 144 imposed at India Gate

The Delhi Police Saturday imposed prohibitory orders in the India Gate area to forestall protests after the brutal rape of a five-year-old girl.

“Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) has been imposed near the India Gate and no gathering would be allowed there,” a senior police officer told IANS.

Following the imposition of prohibitory orders, the India Gate was got vacated in the afternoon and vendors were asked to leave the area.

The Aam Aadmi Party and several NGOs had called the people to gather at the India Gate for a candlelight march in the evening.

Actor Govinda is set to judge a reality show titled “Indian Model Hunt 2013”. He says despite being in filmdom for close to three decades, he has never been famous for his fashion and style.

“It has been 27 years as an actor. I became famous as an actor, then star and then became an MP (member of parliament). But in these 27 years, it never happened that people said ‘Govinda is famous for fashion’,” the 50-year-old said here at the press conference of “Indian Model Hunt 2013”.

Five Delhi girls brutalised in April, 393 rapes since Jan 1

The five-year Delhi girl, brutalised by a neighbour earlier this week, is the fifth minor to have fallen prey to rapists this month. In many of the 393 rapes since Jan 1, the accused were known to the victims, police records show.

The five-year girl was abducted April 15 and kept hostage by her neighbour for two days without food and water and repeatedly raped in east Delhi’s Gandhi Nagar, police said.

Accused Manoj Kumar, 25, was arrested from a village in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district early Saturday, police said.

Woman suicide bomber kills five in Pakistan

A woman suicide bomber blew herself up outside a hospital in Pakistan’s northwest tribal region Saturday, killing five people and injuring four others, a media report said.

The bomber detonated her explosives-laden jacket around 2.30 p.m. at the main entrance of the District Hospital in Khaar town of Bajaur agency along the border with Afghanistan, Xinhua reported.

The blast damaged many vehicles in the area.

Witnesses said the woman wearing a veil tried to enter the hospital but security personnel at the gate asked her for checking, and then she blew herself up.

US report documents deteriorating human rights in Tibet

A US report on human rights has documented severe repression and marked deterioration of human rights in Tibet, the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) said here Saturday.

The Chinese government’s respect for and protection of human rights in the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) and other Tibetan areas deteriorated markedly, a CTA spokesperson said, quoting the US State Department’s 2012 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices.

124 killed, 3,000 injured in China quake

At least 124 people were killed and more than 3,000 others injured Saturday when a devastating earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale struck southwest China’s Sichuan province, adjacent to a region where an 8.0-magnitude quake in 2008 left 69,000 people dead while 18,000 are still missing.

The earthquake hit Lushan county of Ya’an city at 8.02 a.m., Xinhua cited the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC) as saying.

More than 3,000 people were injured in the earthquake, the Lushan county publicity department said.
