22-yr-old youth found killed in Hathras

A 22-year-old youth was allegedly killed by unidentified persons in Hasayan area here, police said on Sunday.

The body of Ranveer was recovered from the terrace of a temple in Paura village yesterday with injury marks inflicted by a sharp weapon, which indicates that he was killed, they said.

The body has been sent for postmortem, they said.

No arrests have been made so far, they said, adding that probe in the matter is on.

Terming as “a deadly attack on Hindus” the Gujarat government’s nod for seeking death penalty for former BJP minister Maya Kodnani and nine others in the 2002 Naroda Patiya massacre case, Shiv Sena today said Hindus have different expectations from Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

“There is a feeling that Modi is a protector of Hindus. Seeking death penalty for Kodnani and Bajrangi is a deadly attack on Hindus, who have different expectations from Modi,” an editorial in Sena mouthpiece ‘Saamana’ said.

Capital anger against five-year-old’s rape, accused nabbed in Bihar

Four months after the Dec 16 gang-rape, Delhi was rocked by angry street protests again Saturday against the barbaric rape of a five-year-old girl who doctors said has suffered serious injuries to her private parts while the accused was nabbed from Bihar and brought back here.

Doctors said the girl’s condition was stable but she would need major reconstructive surgery to her private parts due to the brutal sexual assault. While the capital was seething in anger over the rape, news came in the evening of a gang-rape of a 13-year-old girl by eight men.

US to double non-lethal aid to Syria opposition

The United States has said it would double its non-lethal assistance to Syria’s opposition, taking the total aid to USD 250 million.

The announcement yesterday came following US Secretary of State John Kerry’s meeting with Syrian Coalition President Ahmed Moaz al-Khatib, members of the Coalition leadership and international partners supporting the Syrian opposition in Istanbul.

With political manoeuvrings picking up pace for next year’s Lok Sabha elections, CPI(M) today said Trinamool Congress was being wooed by BJP.

“The Trinamool Congress has a record of alliance with both BJP and Congress. At present, BJP is wooing TMC,” CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat told PTI in an interview.

He was asked about the possibility of Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee striking an alliance with Congress or BJP ahead of or after the general elections.

Bihar’s growth story concentrated in cities, says new book

As Bihar’s growth story under the Nitish Kumar administration gets increasingly talked and written about, a book based on a study of the state over the past three decades contends that development has been highly concentrated in urban areas while manufacturing and agriculture have seen little growth.

The book attributes the improvement in economic growth primarily to the tertiary sector and the service industry, noting that while the former has grown, the primary sector – agriculture and allied activities – remains stagnant.

Man sentenced to life in 10-year old murder case

A man was sentenced to life imprisonment and a penalty of Rupees one lakh imposed on him by a local court here in a 10-year old murder case.

In November 2002 a person named Sunil was killed in Kotwali area and later his body was recovered in Sahraspali village after which an FIR was lodged against Sanjay Gaur and Akash, a minor then, prosecution sources said here.

Additional Sessions Judge Kishore Kumar yesterday held Sanjay guilty and pronounced the sentence, they said.

Akash’s case is pending in the juvenile justice board, they said.

Intermediate 1st year results to be announced today

Intermediate Board will announce Intermediate 1st year results on Sunday April 21. Inter exams were conducted between March 6 to March 19 and a total of 986052 candidates appeared for the exam. 1010915 students appeared for inter 2nd year exams. Inter 2nd year results are likely to be announced on Tuesday, April 23. Exams were conducted at 2633 exam centres.

Auto driver injured in murder attack near Puranapul

A murder attack on a Muslim auto driver in Puranpul area last night created panic in the city. It is said that 40 year old Mahmood Ali resident of Ziaguda was seriously injured in a murder attack by unknown attackers. He was shifted to Osmania hospital by his relatives in unconscious state.

On receipt of information DCP south zone Mr. Tarun Joshi and others reached Osmania hospital and sought details. Police maintained alert in south and west zones.

18 killed in China mine blast

A coal mine gas blast killed 18 people and injured 12 in northeast China, authorities said Sunday.

The blast occurred around Saturday afternoon in Jilin province’s Qingxing coal mine when 73 people were working underground. Of them 55 miner had been lifted out to safety, Xinhua reported.

What caused the blast was being investigated till last report.

4-year-old raped in Fatehabad

A four-year old girl was allegedly raped by a 14-year old boy in the district, police said today.

Deepak, a neighbour, allegedly lured the girl by offering her candy and took her to his house and allegedly raped her on Friday evening at Samain village near Tohana, police said.

The mother of the victim had come to her parents’ house at Samain village last week.

The incident came to light when girl’s mother started searching her daughter and reached Deepak’s house where she found that accused was doing the shameful act with the child.

Jeddah woman delivers a 5-month-old miracle in Ahmedabad

 

This is a story of a woman who defied all odds and gave birth to a child. In a foreign country, five-month pregnant Shaheen Ahmad went desperately knocking on doors of different hospitals even as she was losing precious water from her womb. She was told that at 22 weeks, she had no chance to deliver a child that would live. She was advised abortion but no hospital was ready to admit her.

Iran rejects UNSC’s criticism on n-programme

Iran has rejected a UN Security Council statement calling Tehran’s nuclear programme a threat to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), Xinhua reported.

On Friday, five permanent members of the UN Security Council in a statement described Iran’s “continued pursuit of certain nuclear activities” as a threat to the NPT, according to the report.

“We are a committed member of the IAEA, one of the first countries that signed the NPT and we are committed to our obligations under the treaty,” said Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Ramin Mehmanparast.
