A city court on Tuesday granted bail to TDP legislator A Revanth Reddy, an accused in the cash-for-vote case.

ACB had arrested TDP MLA Revanth Reddy and two others on May 31 in connection the case.

ACB had arrested Reddy while he was handing over bribe of Rs 50 lakh to nominated legislator Elvis Stephenson to induce him to vote for TDP-BJP candidate in Telangana legislative council elections.

Revanth’s two aides were also arrested by the ACB in a trap laid on a complaint by Stephenson.

Legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar on Tuesday extended his greetings to new captain Ajinkya Rahane, hoping the youngster will do a good job during the upcoming Zimbabwe tour.

Rahane, 27, is first cricketer from Mumbai in 15 years to be handed the reins of the team since Tendulkar led the team in 2000.

ED seeks legal assistance from Singapore, Mauritius

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has sought legal assistance from Singapore and Mauritius to take forward its probe in the alleged financial irregularities in the Indian Premier League tournament (IPL) and its former chairman Lalit Modi.

Officials said the agency has initiated the “legal procedures” to obtain from a court two Letters Rogatories (overseas judicial requests) to be sent to the two countries as part of its probe in the alleged laundering of funds in awarding media rights of the money spinning cricket tournament in 2009.

Australia, New Zealand set to play first day-night Test match in November

In a bid to revive dwindling interest in Test cricket, Australia and New Zealand have joined forces to meet in the game’s first day-nighter later this year.

The trans-Tasman rivals will play a three-match Test series beginning November 27, with the final match to be played under lights in Adelaide.

A pink ball will be introduced in order to facilitate the game under floodlights while still allowing players to wear traditional whites.

Reflecting on this new format, Cricket Australia chief executive James Sutherland said he hopes the idea would increase interest in the game.

Rupee gains 8 paise against dollar on foreign capital inflows

Snapping its five-day falling spree, the rupee rose 8 paise to 63.76 against the US dollar in early trade on Tuesday on fresh selling of the American currency by exporters and banks amid a higher opening in the domestic equity market.

Selling of the American currency by exporters and banks supported the rupee, but the dollar’s firmness against euro and other currencies overseas capped the gains, dealers said.

Besides, a higher opening in domestic equity market helped the rupee, they added.

Key member of NSCN(K) nabbed by NIA

National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a key member of Naga insurgent group NSCN-K for allegedly being a part of conspiracy to carry out the June 4 ambush that killed 18 army men in Manipur, in the first breakthrough in the probe into the incident.

Khumlo Abi Anal, 40, the self-styled ‘Regional Commander’ of NSCN-K, is alleged to be a part of the conspiracy that was hatched to carry out the attack on army men at Chandel area of Manipur on June four, NIA said.
The accused has been produced before Special Judge, NIA, who remanded him to the agency’s custody till July seven.
