Reliance, ICICI to manage Rs 60,000 crore coal PF Fund

Reliance Capital Asset Management Company (RCAM) and ICICI Securities Primary Dealership have been selected to manage Rs 60,000 crore provident fund corpus of coal industry workers, an government official has said.

The decision was taken by the board of trustees (BOT) of the Coal Mines Provident Fund Organisation (CMPFO) in its meeting, chaired by Coal Secretary Anil Swarup, who is the Chairman of BOT, in Kolkata yesterday.

Drunken driving: Lawyer Janhavi Gadkar’s bail plea rejected

A court today rejected the bail application moved by 35-year-old corporate lawyer Janhavi Gadkar who is accused of mowing down two persons here on June 10 under the influence of alcohol.

“The application is rejected,” Magistrate Richa Khedkar said in her order while extending Gadkar’s judicial custody till July 10. Gadkar, through her lawyer Amit Desai had told the Kurla court that the investigation in the case is over and her custody is no longer required.

German lang row could have been handled differently: Steiner

German ambassador Michael Steiner was today of the view that the language row with HRD Ministry could have been avoided and handled slightly differently.

Steiner, who would be leaving India next week after ending his tenure as ambassador to New Delhi, said “this is one issue that could have been avoided. It could have been handled slightly differently.”

The ambassador was addressing a small gathering at his residence where a recipe book authored by his wife was launched.

Israel releases prominent Hamas official year after arrest

Israel today released a prominent Hamas leader in the West Bank, the Islamist group said, a year after his arrest along with hundreds of others following the killing of three Israeli teenagers.

Hamas says Hassan Yusef, who has spent years in Israeli jails and was elected to the Palestinian parliament in 2006 while in Israeli custody, has worked entirely in the political wing of the movement.

He is also known for having disowned his son after he worked as an informant for Israel’s Shin Bet internal security agency under the codename “The Green Prince”.

President Pranab Mukherjee stresses on ‘self-imposed code of conduct’ for media

With the issue of “paid news” apparently weighing heavily on his mind, President Pranab Mukherjee on Friday made a strong pitch for self-correcting mechanisms to check any aberrations.

“Regulation and restraint cannot come from any external source, but internally from system itself… from self-imposed code of conduct,” Mukherjee said here.

Noting that media has an important role to play in a democracy, he said newspapers must be keepers of the conscience of the country.

Haryana to give free bicycles to SC students

Haryana has sanctioned Rs.7 crore for this fiscal to provide free bicycles to the Scheduled Castes (SC) students studying in government schools, an official statement said on Friday.

The students of Class 9 and Class 11 will get the bicycles free of cost.

Only those Scheduled Castes students would benefit under the scheme who have to commute to the next village to attend a high school or a senior secondary school, the statement said.

It said that to avail of benefits under the scheme, the student should be a resident of the state.

Mumbai Police today observed the ‘International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking’ with a commitment to wipe out the menace from the city.

The anti-narcotic cell of Mumbai Police, mandated to deal with such cases, launched a motto ‘No place for Drug..Just Say No’ appealing to the people of Mumbai to stay away from the use of psychotropic substances.

“Our men will visit schools and colleges and also contact NGO workers to make a sustainable impact of our drive, which will continue for a fortnight,” Mumbai Police spokesman Dhananjay Kulkarni said.

No Fresh Case Registered Against Jagdish Tytler in Cases of Money Laundering and Influencing Witness

CBI today told a Delhi court that no fresh FIR has been lodged against Congress leader Jagdish Tytler, who has been given clean chit in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case, on allegations of influencing witness and money laundering.

CBI’s reply came while responding to the court’s query whether the agency has registered any case against Mr Tytler under sections 193 (punishment for false evidence), 195A (threatening a person to give false evidence) of IPC and the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

Jammu-Srinagar National Highway Reopens for One Way Traffic

One way traffic was today restored at the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, which was closed due to landslides triggered by heavy rain.

“The stranded vehicles were cleared yesterday evening, whereas one way traffic from Srinagar to Jammu was restored today after the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) removed the debris from the highway,” SSP Traffic National Highway, Sanjay Kotwal told PTI.

The men and the machinery of the BRO has been working day and night to make the highway motorable from both the sides, he added.

49 Child Labourers Rescued in Odisha

As many as 49 child workers, including 20 from Bihar, have been rescued from small-scale units in Ganjam and Gajapati districts of Odisha.

22 children, including 20 from Bihar, who were working in small manufacturing and sugarcane juice processing units in Berhampur were rescued during a raid by a district- level monitoring committee squad yesterday.

In a separate raid, 27 children were rescued from Paralakhemundi in Gajapati district yesterday, said Gajapati district Child Protection Officer, Arun Tripathy.

Bail Plea of Lawyer Jahnvi Gadkar Rejected by Mumbai Court

Lawyer Jahnvi Gadkar, accused of running over two persons under the influence of alcohol, has been denied bail by a Mumbai court.

The 35-year-old lawyer had crashed her Audi SUV into a taxi allegedly in a drunken state. Two people had died in the accident on June 9.

Ms Gadkar has been booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

Google starts testing of prototype self-driving cars

Google has announced that it is begun testing the latest prototypes of its self-driving car, which are designed to be autonomous without any sort of controls.

According to the Techcrunch.com, during this testing phase, they have safety drivers in the driver seat during this stage of the test, with removable steering wheel, accelerator and brake pedals to ensure they can take control if necessary.

In self-driving mode, they top out at 25 mph, and are using the same system software that has powered the previously Lexus-made test vehicles with minimal incidents.

The solar charkha has revolutionised India’s Khadi sector in terms of improved technology, and now, according to the government, it has the potential to generate more jobs for women.

This view was expressed by Minister of State for MSME Giriraj Singh during a two-day visit to the Central KVIC office.

He interacted with Arun Kumar Jha, CEO and Commissioner, senior KVIC officials and representatives of Khadi institutions from the State of Maharashtra, and said that the objective is to employ one lakh women in each parliamentary constituency and cover them under social security schemes.

Water storage status of 91 reservoirs pegged at 43.26 BCM

The water storage available in 91 important reservoirs of the country as on June 25, 2015 was 43.26 BCM which is 27 percent of total storage capacity of these reservoirs.

This storage is 111 percent of the storage of corresponding period of last year and 146 percent of storage of average of last ten years.

The present storage position during current year is better than the storage position of last year and is also better than the storage of average of last ten years.

Deve Gowda, Yeddyurappa meet family of K’taka farmer who committed suicide

Janata Dal (Secular) supremo H.D. Deve Gowda and former Karnataka chief minister B S Yeddyurappa on Friday met the family members of the farmer who committed suicide in the state’s Mandya district.
The farmer, identified as Linge Gowda, was upset at the non-payment of dues by sugar mills and harassment by moneylenders which pushed him to take this extreme step.

Linge succumbed to burns on the spot from where his body was sent for a post mortem by the police.

Intermediate suppl. Exam results announced

Deputy Chief Minister in-charge of Education Kadiam Srihari released Intermediate supplementary examination results on Friday at 12 noon at Intermediate Bhavan here.

While the first year pass percentage was 66.23 per cent, the pass percentage of Intermediate II year was 42.77. Dates for revaluation of examination papers and recounting of marks have been extended till July 4. The students can check their results on www.examresults.com and www.results.cgg.gov.in.

AP extends one more year for recruitment of disabled

The Government of Andhra Pradesh has extended the time limit by one more year for the differently abled persons for filling the backlog vacancies reserved for them in various departments and bodies.

According to a GO issued recently, the Principal Secretary, Women, Children, Disabled and Senior Citizens Welfare Department has extended the last date for filling vacancies by differently abled persons from March 31, 2015 to March 31 next year.
