Report of net neutrality to be out soon: Ravi Shankar Prasad

Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad on Saturday said that the report on net neutrality would be out once the TRAI report is out.

“Report of net neutrality will be out soon. But as I said in the Parliament, I will have to await TRAI report also. We are expecting that the RBI will give license for payment bank to the Department of Post by August,” said Ravi Shankar.

China aggressively building islands on reefs claimed by Philippines

China is reportedly proceeding with the construction of artificial islands on at least two reefs, which are claimed by the Philippines, despite Beijing promising to end some work soon.

Mayor Eugenio Bito-onon of Kalayaan Islands, which falls under Philippine’s control, said that he saw Chinese land reclamation activity going on in ‘full swing,’ with many dredgers and huge cranes visible near Subi Reef, reports The Guardian.

He noted that it was ‘full-blast, massive and incredible’ construction and added that it would take months before the Chinese completed the work.

Bihar: NDA constituents in show of unity

Dispelling doubts about any cracks in the unity of three NDA constituents, their chiefs today said they would jointly campaign for next month’s elections to 24 seats of the Bihar Legislative Council, which is being seen as the semi-final for the Assembly elections later this year.

Cashless Outpatient service at NIMS for govt employees and pensioners

Now government employees, pensioners and their families can utilize the outpatient (OP) and diagnostic services in the Nizams Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) and MNJ Cancer Hospital from July 1. At present, the govt employees, pensioners and their families are eligible to secure inpatient services only.

The decision was taken in a meeting with the Minister for Health Dr C Lakshma Reddy had with Principal Secretary for Health, NIMS director, Director Medical Eeducation and other officials of Health Department on Friday.

People with high BP face lower risk of Alzheimer’s

People who have high blood pressure face lower risk for Alzheimer’s disease, claims a new study.

Associate Professor, and co-author of the study John Kauwe at Brigham Young University, said that it was likely that the protective effect was coming from antihypertensive drugs.

The study analysed genetic data from 17,008 individuals with Alzheimer’s and 37,154 people without the disease. Data came from the Alzheimer’s Disease Genetics Consortium and the International Genomics of Alzheimer’s Project.

French police continue to question beheading attack suspect

French police are reportedly still questioning a man suspected of carrying out an attack on a factory near Lyon, in which a man was found decapitated.

Yassin Salhi, 35, caused an explosion by ramming his car into an area containing flammable liquids, the BBC quoted prosecutors in Lyon, as saying.

His boss, the owner of a delivery firm, was found beheaded alongside Arabic inscripted flags.

Delhi court allows Pachauri to travel abroad

A Delhi court has allowed former TERI director R.K. Pachauri to travel abroad from June 29 – July 9 to attend the last rites of a relative.
Pachauri was questioned yesterday for the second time by Delhi Police in connection with the alleged sexual harassment case lodged against him by a research associate working in his office

On May 21, a local court had declined to allow Pachauri to enter his office while noting the slow progress in the probe against him and asked police to complete it by July 17.

UP mock drill: SP accuses BJP of ‘politicising’ the issue

The Samajwadi Party (SP) on Saturday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of politicising the Uttar Pradesh Police’s anti-riot drill which involved the usage of saffron flags.

“The BJP wants to make this a political issue when it’s not. We will give orders to the police to keep such things in mind next time,” said SP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia.

Mock rioters had waved saffron flags during an anti-riot drill at reserve police lines in Allahabad on Friday. The incident had angered BJP leaders, who termed it an insult to crores of Hindus.

Bihar: Child dies, six others fall ill after taking polio drops

A child has died and six others fell ill on Saturday in Bihar’s Vaishali district allegedly after being administered polio drops.

The incident occurred in Shahpur village near Hajipur, district headquarters of Vaishali, about 25 kilometres from Patna, where children aged upto five were administered polio drops on Friday.

Vaishali civil surgeon Ramashish Kumar has ordered a probe into the incident.

Facebook will soon make its Instant Articles programme live, with publishers like NBC News and the New York Times already in the fray.

Other early-stage partners include the Guardian, BBC News, Spiegel Online and Bild. Facebook would host the content on its servers so that it loads faster than regular article posts on mobile phones.

Publishers are ready to ramp up content distribution on Instant Articles, with some newsrooms preparing to post a few dozen stories a day, the Wall Street Journal reported.

AAP plans to launch anti-corruption units

“Eating too frequently, especially when we are not hungry, is a major potential cause of weight gain,” said study author Stephanie Fay who conducted the study at Queensland University of Technology in Australia.

“Excessive portion size and energy-dense foods are often blamed for weight gain but the frequency of eating is a significant contributor too,” said Fay, now based in London with the World Cancer Research Fund.

India’s High Commissioner to New Zealand Ravi Thapar on Saturday said he was not leaving the country because of assault allegations against his wife but because he wanted to take care of his mother living in India.

Thapar’s wife has been accused of physically assaulting a domestic help at their residence. He has denied the allegations and said his wife was an “experienced diplomatic spouse” incapable of assaulting an “able-bodied man”.
