Mulayam discharged from Gurgaon hospital

Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav was on Saturday discharged from a private hospital here after being treated for viral fever and abdomen infection, a doctor said.

The 75-year-old former Uttar Pradesh chief minister came to Medicity Medanta Hospital on Friday after feeling unwell.

“Yadav was diagnosed for viral fever and an infection in his abdomen. Senior cardiologist Dr. Naresh Trehan and Dr. Sushila Kataria were monitoring his diagnosis process,” a doctor at Medanta, who did not wish to be named told IANS.

Heat wave toll touches 1,242 in Karachi

The devastating heat wave that struck Pakistan’s Sindh province is slowly subsiding but the toll has climbed to 1,242 with 32 deaths reported in Karachi on Saturday.

Various government-run hospitals in Karachi confirmed that at least 32 people died of heatstroke on Saturday, reports Dawn.

At least 13 people died in Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), 11 in Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH), two in Qatar Hospital, three in hospitals owned by Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) and three in other hospitals in the city.

Arun Jaitley to skip FMs meet to sign agreement on AIIB in Beijing

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will skip the meeting of Finance Ministers of 57 countries to approve setting up of US $100 billion Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) in Beijing on Monday.

“The Minister is not be going to China,” a Finance Ministry official said.

The official, however, did not give any reasons for Jaitley skipping the meeting but it may be because of pressing domestic issues.

MERC allows Tata, Reliance, Mahavitaran to hike power tariff in Mumbai

The Mumbai electricity regulatory authority has allowed three utilities Tata Power, Reliance Infrastructure and Mahavitaran to increase their tariff with effect from this month.
Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has approved an increase in tariff of 2.44% for Mahavitaran, while 5.2% and 3.92% for RInfra and Tata Power (TPC), respectively. The new rates will now be applicable from June 1.

6-year old girl falls into borewell, rescue operation underway

A seven-year old girl on Saturday fell into a borewell in Rajasthan’s Sikar district.

Police officials reached the spot to rescue the girl.

The area around the borewell is being dug in an effort to rescue the seven-year old.

Safdarjung Sports Injury Centre approved as referral centre for next Olympics

The Sports Injury Centre (SIC) at the Safdarjung Hospital has been approved as a referral centre for elite Indian athletes selected for the next Olympic Games.

A decision in this regard was taken recently at a meeting which included all the sports federations of the country.

The SIC was selected as the referral centre by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) for all its national and international events, said the centre’s director, Dr. Deepak Chaudhary.

The centre is fully equipped and trained to handle all cases of injuries to the athletes selected for the Olympics.

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday asserted that the Congress Party is not doing its home-work before demanding the resignations of Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj over the Lalit Modi row.

RBI may give payment bank licence to Post Dept by August: Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad

Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad today said he expects Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to grant payment licence to the proposed Post Bank of India by August.

This will enable the network of 1,54,000 post offices (including 1,30,000 rural post offices) to offer banking services to the masses in the country.

“We expect RBI to give payment bank licence to post (department) in August,” Minister of Communications and IT Prasad said.

In last one year, the Department of Post (DoP) has networked 27,215 post offices into one national unit through computers.

West Bengal credit-deposit ratio rises; still below national average

West Bengal’s credit-deposit (C/D) ratio, a key indicator of a state’s credit offtake, has inched-up to 68%, but was still below the national average of more than 70%.

West Bengal Finance Minister Amit Mitra, who chaired the State Level Banker’s Committee meeting here on Saturday, told reporters that the C/D ratio of the state had increased from 67% to 68%.

“It was below the national average, which was little more than 70%,” he said.

The minister said that credit disbursements to the minority and the SC/ST sectors had increased considerably in the state.
