Smartphone users in India spend 47 % of their time on communication applications such as WhatsApp, We Chat, Hike and Skype which are key driver of mobile broadband usage, says a report.

EAMCET Engineering web counselling likely on July 6

Madras HC asking rapists to settle matter ‘unethical’: Legal experts

Terming the recently delivered order of the Madras High Court that directed the rapist to mediate with the victim as “illegal” and “unwarranted”, legal eagles pitched for delivering justice instead of referring it for “settlement”.

Expressing that such verdict will increase rape cases in the country, legal experts said the high court had no power to overwrite expressed provisions of law and “rape survivors needs justice instead of sympathy”.

BJP plans major outreach in Tamil Nadu, Shah to visit

Seeking to project itself as an alternative to Dravidian parties, the BJP has planned a major outreach programme in Tamil Nadu ahead of next year’s Assembly polls, with party president Amit Shah likely to visit the state soon.

Tamil Nadu has elected only Dravidian governments in the last nearly 50 years.

Talks between Iran and the US enter a “critical phase” today with tensions rising just three days from a deadline to nail down a deal thwarting any Iranian nuclear arms drive.

EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini was due to arrive during the day after US Secretary of State John Kerry and his Iranian counterpart appeared to have made little headway when they returned to the negotiating table in Vienna yesterday.

“Obviously we are at a critical stage now,” a Western diplomat said. “It’s become more tense in the final days. But that was always likely to happen.”

Minorities can self-attest community certificates to get benefits of government schemes

People belonging to minority communities will no longer have to secure certificates from officials to avail of benefits of welfare schemes, with the government making it clear that self-attestation was enough.

“In this context, it is informed that minority certificate is not mandatory for getting the benefits of welfare schemes being implemented by the ministry,” the Ministry of Minority Affairs has said in a recent communication to the states.

The government has notified six communities as minorities — Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Parsis and Jains.
