Give job to Samjhauta Express blast victim’s son: HC

The Delhi High Court has asked the railway ministry to provide a job to a man whose mother died in the 2007 Samjhauta Express blast.

The court also imposed costs of Rs.1 lakh on the ministry for the enormous delay in providing employment to him.

The then railway minister had announced Rs.10 lakh compensation to the family of the deceased and job in the railways for a dependent member of the victim.

Faryaz, who moved the high court, had received the compensation but had been running from pillar to post for securing the promised job.

Investment in textile project up to Rs.37,000 crore: Mamata

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said investment for the integrated textile development project in the state has soared to Rs.37,000 crore.

“The investment figure for the integrated textile project has gone up to Rs. 37,000 crore from Rs.26,100 crore,” she said here at an interactive seminar, Business Made Easy – The Next Level.

On May 29, she had pegged the investment amount at Rs. 26,100 crore.

Israel welcomes Modi’s proposed visit

An elated Israel today warmly welcomed the announcement of Narendra Modi’s visit to the Jewish nation, the first ever by an Indian Prime Minister, saying it would lead to “tightening” of the bilateral ties.

A day after External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj announced Modi’s plans to visit that country, Israeli Ambassador to India Daniel Carmon told PTI that high level visits “are a natural ingredient of the tightening relationship” between Israel and India.

People protest for citizenship rights for minorities in Myanmar

A group of people staged a protest near the Myanmar embassy in New Delhi on Monday demanding restoration of citizenship rights to minority community in the country.

The protesters demanded that Muslims be rehabilitated and accommodated as citizens of Myanmar.

“Our demand is that Muslims should be accommodated soon. Myanmar has revoked their citizenship and it should be restored and they should be recalled,” said protester, Abdul Nashir, protestor.

The police prevented the protesters from advancing towards the embassy by blocking the roads with barricades and standing before it.

Bangladesh authorities have confirmed that they will be filing murder charges against those involved in the 2013 garment factory, Rana Plaza building collapse that killed more than 1100 people.

The charges will be filed against the building’s owner Sohel Rana and 40 others, including Rana’s parents and more than a dozen government officials for their role behind the deaths of 1137 people, said the lead investigator, Bijoy Krishna Kar, reported Stuff.co.nz.

Observing that public functionaries should not make “hollow promises” as they would be bound “morally, ethically and legally” by such announcements, Delhi High Court has slapped a cost of Rs one lakh on Railways for the eight-year delay in giving a job to the son of a victim of the 2007 Samjhauta Express bombing.

Then Railway Minister, Lalu Prasad Yadav, apart from offering Rs 10 lakh compensation to the kin of people who died in the blast, had also said that one member of each affected family would also be given a job in the Railways, the court noted.

76 countries fell to Botnet attacks in first quarter of 2015

The Kaspersky Lab statistics has shown that a total of 23,095 DDoS attacks were carried out on web resources located in 76 countries in the first quarter of 2015.

Servers in the USA, Canada and China were most frequently targeted, while the top 10 victims also included resources in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.

The study also finds that the greatest number of attacks on a single web resource in Q1 2015 was 21, compared to 16 in Q4 2014, and the most prolonged botnet attack occurred for almost six days.

U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Anne Richard has urged Myanmar to give citizenship to Rohingya Muslims fleeing persecution there, saying that resettling them in a third country was not an answer to the “swelling tide” of boat people in South East Asia.

While wrapping up a three-day visit to Malaysia, Richard said the solution to the migrant crisis was “peace and stability” and added that resettling refugees in the U.S. will entice others to leave their homeland, The New York Times reports.

2,600 people killed in Egypt since ex-Prez Morsi’s deposition

Almost 2,600 people have been killed in Egypt in the 18-month-long period after the deposition of former President Mohamed Morsi in 2013, a state-sanctioned rights body has said.

The Guardian quoted Mohammed Fayeq, head of the National Council for Human Rights, as saying that about 700 police officers and 550 civilians were among those killed in the period between 30 June, 2013 and 31 December, 2014. He added that Morsi’s supporters constituted half the total number.

42 booked for Rana Plaza collapse in Bangladesh

Bangladesh police has reportedly charged 42 people, including the owner of Rana Plaza, Sohel Rana, in two cases filed over the building’s collapse in 2013, which killed 1,135 people, mostly garment workers.

Bijoy Krishna Kar, assistant superintendent of Criminal Investigation Department, submitted two charge-sheets before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Dhaka: one for murder and another for violating building code, reported The Daily Star.

Students protest against HRD ministry, IIT-Madras

Scores of students on Monday staged a protest outside the Human Resource Development (HRD) ministry here against de-recognition of a students group by the Indian Institute of Technology-Madras (IIT-Madras).

The students, gathered under the aegis of Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union, raised slogans against IIT-Madras and the HRD ministry at Shashtri Bhawan, which houses the ministry.
