With the exposure of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s involvement in the defamed bribery case led to arrest of Revanth Reddy bribing Rs 50 lakhs to MLA Stephenson, Telugu Desam Party is a non existing entity in Telangana State. This was stated by Industries Minister Jupally Krishna Rao during a press conference here. He accused Naidu of playing bad politics for survival in Telangana and creating hurdles to Telangana development. He attributed Revanth’s episode for using ill gotten money of Andhra region by Naidu to purchase MLAs.

Higher service tax makes mobile, eating out, travel expensive

Eating out, mobile phone usage and air & rail travel have become expensive from today with the government hiking service tax rate to 14 per cent.

The government’s proposal to increase the rate of service tax from 12.36 per cent (including education cess) to 14 per cent has come into effect from today.

The service tax is levied on all services, expect a small negative list.

IIT-M row: Protests continue, Athawale says action unjust

Protests continued today over de-recognition of a students’ body, comprising mostly dalits, by IIT-M as NDA ally RPI joined the chorus against the premier institute’s action, terming it as an “act of injustice” and “attack” on freedom of expression.

Protests were held in Chennai and the national capital against the institute’s decision to temporary de-recognise Ambedkar-Periar Study Circle (APSC) by the IIT-Madras management after an anonymous complaint that it was spreading “hatred” against Prime Minister Narendra Modi was forwarded to it by the Union HRD ministry.

Can hormones also affect our morality? A new study says they can — with findings that high levels of testosterone – the male sex hormone – make people more prone to corruption.

Researchers from the University of Lausanne, Switzerland, also found that human beings may be naturally predisposed to corruption, Daily Mail reported.

They had set out to discover the truth behind John Dalberg-Acton’s famous saying that “power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely”.

AP cabinet blames KCR on Revanth episode

Andhra Pradesh cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, which was held here today reported to have discussed on the issue of arrest of party MLA A Revanth Reddy on the alleged charges of bribe.

In the meeting, the members apparently discussed about how the TRS party, which has a strength of 63 MLAs in the House, could field fifth candidate for MLC post. The TDP members reportedly charged KCR with indulging in horse trading to ensure win of his fifth candidate in the poll.

Free 9 hr power to agriculture from 2016: Min

The Telangana State Government has signed an agreement with BHEL for commissioning Yadadri Power Plant at Damaracharla in Nalgonda district, Minister for Energy G Jagadish Reddy has said.

Addressing the media at Secretariat here, Jagdish Reddy said the Yadadri Power Plant project cost is much lesser than other projects at national level, he said. The Government will spend Rs 17,950 crore for producing 4000 mw power and will become functional in three to four years, he said. The government will supply free power for nine hours to farming activities in the State.

KCR meets Guv; invites to State formation day fete

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao today extended an invitation to Governor ESL Narsimhan to attend Telangana State Formation Day celebrations to be conducted at Parade Grounds on June 2 at 9.30 am.

The Chief Minister called on the Governor and closeted with him for about half-an-hour and spoke on issues related to delay in bifurcation of the departments and officials. The meeting assumes significance in the wake of Union Home Ministry calling a meeting of chief secretaries of both the States on key issues.

Revanth’s bail petition adjourned to Tuesday

The Anti-Corruption Bureau here has registered an FIR against Telangana TDP MLA A. Revanth Reddy, who was caught red-handed while offering Rs 50 lakh out of Rs 5 crore to nominated MLA Elvis Stephenson on Sunday night to vote for TDP-BJP candidate in the Monday’s MLCs elections.

The ACB also included Revanth Reddy’s three aides in the trap case as co-accused. While Revanth Reddy was made Accused No. 1, Sebastian Harry was made A-2, Udaysinha as A-3 and Mathews Jerusalem as A-4.

UAE employers’ registration for Indian workers made mandatory

India has made it mandatory for employers of Indian workers and nurses in the UAE to register themselves online on a government website before hiring them.

“With effect from June 1, 2015, the foreign employers, who seeks to recruit Indian nurses, need to register in the eMigrate system (www.Emigrate.Gov.In),” the Indian embassy said in a statement here.

The recruitment agencies which are authorized to recruit Indian nurses will not charge any fees towards recruitment expenses from them, it said.

Man’s body exhumed a year after burial

The body of a man was exhumed here today by Udhamsingh Nagar district police, a year after his burial to find out if he was murdered.

The body of Shailesh Massey was exhumed in compliance with a court order as the man had died under mysterious circumstances a year ago with his father suspecting that he was poisoned to death by his wife in collusion with his in-laws, SSP Nilesh Anand Bharne said.

However, Massey who died on June 14 last year was buried without a post mortem, he said.

Bomb attack kills 45 Iraqi soldiers in Iraq

At least 45 Iraqi soldiers have been killed and tens of others injured on Monday, when a tank rigged with explosives struck an arms depot in Iraq’s northern province of Salahuddin.

According to the security officials, the attack took place in the town of Tharthar, some 120 km north of capital Baghdad, when an assailant blew up the tank inside the military site, Arabic-language al-Baghdadia satellite television network reported.

At least 33 soldiers also sustained injuries in the attack.

US anti-terror spying legality expires

The legal authority for US spy agencies to bulk collect Americans’ phone data has expired after the Senate failed to reach a deal, media reported on Monday.

Republican presidential hopeful Rand Paul blocked a Patriot Act extension and it lapsed at midnight on Sunday, BBC reports.

However, the Senate did vote to advance the White House-backed Freedom Act so a new form of data collection is likely to be approved in the coming days.

The Freedom Act imposes more controls, after revelations by Edward Snowden.

App launched to complain against ISI mark products

Union Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Protection Minister Ram Vilas Paswan on Monday launched a mobile phone app for consumers to register complaints against products with ISI mark.

“The minister launched a mobile app enabling consumer to register their complaints against consumer products having ISI marks,” an official statement said.

Paswan also launched a quarterly newsletter mentioning the best practices of targeted public distribution system.

Rain in Himachal brings down mercury by three to four degrees

Rain in Himachal Pradesh on Monday brought down the maximum temperature three to four notches, bringing much relief from the scorching heat, said a Met department official promising more showers in the coming days.

“One or two spells of rain or thundershowers are likely on Tuesday. Maximum temperature will fall even further,” the official told IANS here.

Shimla recorded a maximum temperature of 24 degrees Celsius as against Sunday’s high of 26.1 degrees Celsius. It also received 2.5 mm of rainfall.

42 charged in 2013 Bangladesh building collapse

Police in Bangladesh on Monday charged 42 people in connection with the collapse of a building in 2013 in which more than 1,100 people lost their lives, a media report said.

The charges against the accused, who include owner of the building Sohel Rana, include murder, bdnews24.com reported citing investigating officer Bijay Krishna Kar.

Rana and 18 others have also been accused of violating the building code, the report said.

The chargesheets were submitted to the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s court on Monday.

80 percent Indians suffer from protein deficiency: Survey

A whopping 80 percent of all Indians were protein-deficient, a new survey has revealed.

As many as 91 percent vegetarians and 85 percent non-vegetarians among Indians were deficient in proteins, the survey titled ‘Protein Consumption in the Diet of adult Indians Survey’ (PRODIGY) said.

Conducted by IMRB in seven major cities among 1,260 respondents, it revealed that majority of Indians were not getting the right amount of proteins in their diet daily.

Cow protection programme raises Rs.4.5 crore!

A programme of hymns and folk songs held for the cause of cow-protection here in Gujarat evoked an astounding response – raising a staggering Rs.4.5 crore.

Maid torture: Court’s order on charge June 3

A court here set Wednesday for delivering its order on issue of framing charges in a case against former parliamentarian Dhananjay Singh, accused along with his wife, of torturing their maid leading to her death.

This was announced by Additional Sessions Judge Amit Bansal on Monday.

The former MP is out on bail, but his wife Jagriti is lodged in Tihar Jail.
