Cyberabad’s Petbasheerabad police early this morning conducted a Cordon & Search operation at Vajpayee Nagar colony under supervision of Joint Commissioner of Police Shashidhar Reddy, Addl DCP SOT Ramchandhara Reddy, four ACPs, 12 Inspectors, 30 SI’s and 150 men including AR & TSSP Force.

An 18-year-old girl committed suicide by setting herself ablaze in Kanchanbagh police limits.

The deceased, Sana Fatima, resorted to the extreme step on June 23 and died at the Osmania General Hospital on Saturday. She had love marriage with one Md Khursheed, an auto-driver, about eight months. Khursheed had an argument with his wife when she met her mother on June 23. Upset with the behaviour of her husband, she resorted to the extreme step. Police have registered a case under Section 306 against Khursheed for abetting Sana to suicide.

Mukul Roy to float new party after Eid, claims aide

Former Trinamool Congress general secretary Mukul Roy will float his own political party after Eid, his aide and expelled party leader Dipak Ghosh said on Sunday. The former union minister, however, declined to confirm the development.

“The draft is ready and we will file the documents for floating the new party with the Election Commission after Eid. Once the formalities are completed, we will make the announcement,” Ghosh told mediapersons here.

Roy, however, termed Ghosh’s comments as personal.

“His comments are his own, I have nothing to say about that,” he said in his reaction.

Over 200 girls participate in Mumbai football campaign

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) on Sunday launched a new initiative “FIFA Live Your Goal” where more than 200 young girls participated in footballing activities through grassroots festivities at the Cooperage Ground here.

AIFF technical director Scott O’Donell said the programme was mainly aimed at popularising women’s football in India and growing interest among the younger generation.

O’Donell stressed the fact that the city saw the first launch of such a unique venture and more such programmes will be conducted throughout the country in days to come.

India to set up chair for cross-border teacher education

India will set up a Malaviya Commonwealth Chair for Cross Border Teacher Education, and has also proposed a research consortium for the grouping, an official said on Sunday.

The announcement in this regard was made by Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani at the 19th Conference of Commonwealth Education Ministers held at Nassau (Bahamas) from June 22 to 26, an official statement here said.

The chair will focus on issues pertaining to curriculum development, pedagogy, student assessment, pre-service and in-service teacher training and capacity development.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday ruled out a CBI probe into the bribery charge against the Lokayukta, saying the state government did not have powers to do so against an independent anti-corruption body.

“The state government has no powers to seek a CBI probe into a bribery charge in an independent institution like Lokayukta or against its ombudsman,” Siddaramaiah told reporters here.

51 killed in clashes with IS in Iraq

At least 51 people were killed on Sunday, most of them Islamic State (IS) terrorists, in clashes, air strikes and gun battles across Iraq, security sources said.

In Anbar province, the army artillery pounded IS positions in Saggara area near the city of Haditha, some 200 km northwest of Baghdad, and left 26 IS terrorists killed, a provincial security source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
