Angry mob kills school Director after two students found dead

In a shocking news, the Director of a Delhi Public School (DPS) branch Devendra Prasad was killed by a flash mob after the recovery of the bodies of two students from a ditch in Bihar’s Nalanda district.

Prasad succumbed during treatment at the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), Nalanda’s Superintendent of Police (SP) Sidharth Mohan Jain told PTI.

A post-mortem was being carried out on the body to ascertain exact cause of the DPS official’s death, he said.

Rains play havoc in Uttarakhand, 1,500 pilgrims evacuated

Over 1,500 pilgrims stranded on way to the Himalayan shrines in Uttarakhand have been evacuated as the pilgrimage to Badrinath and the Sikh shrine of Hemkund Sahib in Chamoli district remained disrupted for the fourth consecutive day.

Pilgrimage to Hemkund Sahib has been suspended after a bridge near Bhyundar village along the trek route was washed away in rains and a substitute for it is under construction.

Stranded pilgrims were being ferried in vehicles from Badrinath to Benakuli and Lambagad to Joshimath, Chamoli’s Disaster Management Officer Nand Kishor Joshi said.

FTII controversy: I&B Ministry calls striking students to discuss removal demand

In a new twist in the FTII controversy, now the Information and Broadcasting Ministry has called the striking students to discuss the demand for removal of TV actor Gajendra Chauhan from the post of chairman.

Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Director D J Narain told PTI today that the tentative date suggested for a dialogue with the agitating students is July 3, which has been conveyed to the the FTII Students’ Association, spearheading the strike, which has entered the 17th day.

Indian equities open lower on Monday morning

A benchmark index for Indian equities, the sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), on Monday opened lower and was trading at 27,321.66 points, some 30 minutes after the opening bell.

The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also trading lower, at 8,230.85 points, with a loss of 150.25 points or -1.79 percent.

The 30-share Sensex opened at 27,278.37 points, against the previous close at 27,451.07 points. At 9.45 a.m., it was ruling at 27,310.98 points, with a loss of 509.18 points, or -1.83 percent.

Four terrorists killed in Pakistan

Four terrorists, including a suicide bomber, were killed and nine injured in a raid carried out in Pakistan’s Lahore city on Monday.

During the raid in Lahore’s Rachna Town and Khan Colony area, a suicide bomber blew himself up, injuring nine people including a policeman, Geo News reported.

One terrorist was shot by police on the spot while two more who sustained bullet wounds succumbed to their injuries later.

World’s tallest cow ever dies in US

The world’s tallest cow ever who stood at over 6 feet 2 inches has died in the US after sustaining an irreparable leg injury, Guinness World Records has said.

Blosom stood at a staggering 74.8 inches and was first recognised as the tallest cow living after Guinness World Records visited Blosom and her owner in Orangeville, Illinois, earlier this year.

The 13-year-old female Holstein passed away last month after sustaining an irreparable leg injury.

Road to Dhanushkodi to be completed before this year end

Dhanushkodi, an holy destination for pilgrims and tourists at the south-eastern tip of Pamban Island in Tamil Nadu, will get a good road before the end of this year.

Pakistan heatwave claims 26 more lives, toll nears 1,300

Twenty six people died today of high temperatures in Pakistan’s Karachi, taking the death toll to around 1,300 as residents grappled with the week-long heatwave that has crippled life and overwhelmed the healthcare system.

Weather experts forecast the temperatures, which have been as high as 45 degrees Celsius in the past week, are again likely to soar in the next few days in Karachi, the country’s biggest city and the financial capital.

A Youth Akali Dal leader allegedly committed suicide here following which police today booked seven persons, including two senior leaders of the ruling Akali Dal for abetment of suicide.

Santokh Singh Sukhana, National General Secretary of the Youth Akali Dal, was today found hanging in a bathroom of a hotel, SHO Kotwali Inspector Dharm Pal said. Said.

Seven persons, including two Akali leaders namely Pritam Singh Bhairowal and Gurdip Singh Gosha a Youth Akali leader, have been booked by the police on basis of the suicide note recovered, he said.

Six minor archers enter India and Asia books of records

Six archers, all aged below 12, entered the Indian Book of Records and Asia Book of Records by pulling off spectacular performance at a mixed team event held at Cherukuri Volga Archery Academy here today.

While archers Dolly Shivani and Nischal jointly scored 110 points, Shivani and Virat Sai scored 85 and the duo of Shivani and Datta Sai 90.

The event was held in varying ranges at 10 metres, 9 metres, 8 metres, 7 metres and 6 metres.

Nanowires can be future for better lighting

Light Emitting Diodes made from nanowires would use less energy and provide better light, scientists have found.

Researchers from the Niels Bohr Institute in Denmark studied nanowires using X-ray microscopy and were able to pinpoint exactly how the nanowire should be designed to give the best properties.

Nanowires are very small – about 2 micrometres high (1 micrometer is a thousandth of a millimetre) and 10-500 nanometres in diameter (1 nanometre is a thousandth of a micrometre).

Google’s smart contact lens that will measure glucose levels in diabetics by analysing their tears may be on the market before 2019.

In a recent patent application, Google showed off potential designs for how it could package a smart contact lens, suggesting the project could be further along than thought.

Last year, the company announced that it was working on a lens that would be able to measure a wearer’s glucose levels by analysing their tears.

The lens could potentially remove the need for diabetics to prick their fingers and draw blood to check their blood-sugar levels.

‘Tantrik’ detained in West Bengal

A tantrik who allegedly took the blood of his brother to use in his rituals was detained from his house in Burdwan district, police said.

Police raided their Kanchan Nagar village house falling under Burdwan police station after neighbours lodged a complaint in this regard following which the tantrik, identified as Shubhajit Chanda, 40, was detained.

They also rescued his brother Shamik and admitted him to hospital, police said.

According to villagers, Chanda has been drawing the blood of his brother Shamik for the past one and a half months.

9 killed in China mine theft attempt

Nine people, who had sneaked into an abandoned coal mine in an attempted theft in eastern China’s Fujian Province, have died after inhaling toxic gasses.

Tweleve people had entered the closed mine in Yongding District yesterday to dig coal.

Three of them returned after they smelled a strong odour.

They called up the police after the nine persons who had descended into the mine first did not show up, rescuers said.

Rescuers were sent into the mine but a high-concentration of carbon-monoxide slowed the process.

The nine bodies were recovered today.
