India, Thailand ink agreement on avoiding double taxation

India and Thailand on Monday exchanged the Instruments of Ratification of the extradition treaty and also an agreement for the avoidance of double taxation after talks in Bangkok between External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Thai Deputy Prime Minister Gen. Tanasak Patimapragorn.

The two leaders also reviewed the bilateral ties during the Seventh Thailand-India Joint Commission meeting.

Two persons die after falling from height

A 35-year-old watchman died after falling into the lift shaft from the first floor of a building in KPHB area.

The incident happened on Sunday evening when the deceased, D Ramulu, accidentally fell down into the lift shaft. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead. He was a native of Krishna district, KPHB Police said.

15yr old boy killed in Road accident

A 15-year-old boy succumbed to the injuries which he suffered when the bike he was riding skidded.

The deceased, Syed Moosa Hussaini, met with the accident on June 6 near Pargi Court. He was admitted to the Osmania General Hospital where he died on Sun day night, Pargi police said. (INN)

President Mukherjee arrives in Hyderabad for southern sojourn

The Telangana Government has extended a warm welcome to President of India Pranab Mukherji, who arrived here on 10-day Southern Sojourn, at Air Force Station at Hakimpet on Monday.

The President was received at the Air Force Station by Governor ESL Narasimhan, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and other dignitaries. In a rare fete of sorts, KCR touched the feet of Pranab Mukherjee after welcoming him with a bouquet.

Goa government allowed resort to violate CRZ norms: Bombay HC

The Bombay High Court’s Panaji bench on Monday hauled up the state government for allowing the construction of the Marriott Resort and Spa, a five star property here, without adhering to coastal regulation zone (CRZ) norms.

In its order, which was kept on hold for eight weeks, a bench of Justice K.L. Wadane and Justice F.M. Reis said: “We prima facie find that there is development/construction activity carried out which may include the swimming pool and the compound wall towards the seaward side of the imaginary line to be drawn from the light house referred to in the said plan”.

AP to form 6 sub-committees including bankers to drive growth

In order to give a thrust to economic activity in Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu suggested forming six sub-committees for agriculture, horticulture, livestock, fisheries, MSME and affordable housing.

These sub-committees, the Chief Minister said, will identify growth drivers in each sector and monitor how/why an entity (to which credit has been lent) is non-performing and give hand-holding until it begins performing to generate revenue.

27 killed in air strikes, bomb attacks in Iraq

At least 27 people were killed and 27 wounded on Monday in bomb attacks and air strikes by the US-led coalition and Iraqi aircraft targeting Islamic State (IS) militants across the country’s western province of Anbar, a provincial security source said.

In one air strike, 15 IS militants were killed and nine injured when warplanes bombarded the phosphate facility near the town of Qaim on the Iraqi-Syrian border, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

Marri seeks Talasani’s dismissal as Minister

Congress senior leader and former minister Marri Sashidhar Reddy on Monday demanded the dismissal of Talasani Srinivas Yadav as the minister from State Cabinet.

Speaking to media persons here, Marri said that the Constitutional Bench of Supreme Court, in its judgment delivered on 14-2-2007 in the Rajendra Singh Rana Vs Swami Prasad Maurya case, observed that the indecision by the Speaker on the applications seeking disqualification cannot be merely in the realm of procedure. No new deadline for Iran n-talks: France

French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius has dismissed rumours that a new date may be set for the conclusion of a deal on Iran’s nuclear programme as ongoing negotiations are expected to go past the June 30 deadline.

“We agreed not to set a date,” Fabius told reporters in New York, where he was to attend a UN event on climate change, adding that the negotiators have deliberately decided not to extend the talks in order to reach a conclusion, Press TV reported.

Congress senior leader and former MP Ponnam Prabhakar has accused Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao of suppressing the employees unions by luring their leaders with big posts.

Speaking to media persons in Assembly premises here on Monday, Ponnam said that the State Government did not resolve the problems of employees during the last one year. He said that the bifurcation of employees was yet to be completed and the entire division process has been turned into a puzzle. One more farmer’s suicide rocks Karnataka legislature

Suicide by a debt-ridden farmer and a similar attempt by another in Karnataka on Monday rocked the state legislature on the first day of the 10-day monsoon session in this northern city.

Even before the day’s proceedings began here in Belagavi, over 500 km from Bengaluru, news came from Mandya, about 100 km from the state capital, that 52-year-old farmer Basavaraju committed suicide as he was unable to pay back Rs.5 lakh he took as loan to grow sugarcane in his field, but did not receive money from a sugar mill for last year’s crop.

Osama bin Laden died natural death, claims ex-ISI chief

Al Qaeda Chief Osama bin Laden died a “natural death” in 2005 and not in the US Navy Seals raid in the Abbottabad mansion, claims former Pakistan Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) Chief Lt Gen (retd) Hameed Gul.

“In my opinion Osama was not there (Abbottabad). He died a natural death in 2005,” Hameed Gul told Geo News programme “Jirga” on Monday.

The former ISI chief added that the truth would come out about the May 2, 2011 Abbottabad raid.

Cash-for-vote case: TDP MLA’s custody extended till July 13

A city court on Monday extended till July 13 the judicial custody of TDP legislator A. Revanth Reddy in cash-for-vote scam.

The court dealing with the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) cases also extended the remand of two other accused Sebastian Harry and Uday Simha.

With the judicial custody of the accused ending Monday, the ACB produced them before the court and sought extension of the remand on the ground that the investigations in the case are at a crucial stage.

No nod for dams that hinder environmental flow of rivers: Uma Bharti

The Central Water Commission (CWC) has been directed not to give permission for dam projects that hinder environmental flow of rivers, Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti on Monday said.

Bharti, who reviewed a joint presentation on ‘Namami Gange – National Mission for Clean Ganga’ in Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh, said that the river would be cleaned in 11 important cities situated across its basin in the next three years, a statement here said.

The 11 cities includes Rishikesh, Haridwar, Allahabad, Varanasi, Garhmukteshwar, Kanpur, Patna, Sahibganj, Kolkata and Nabadweep.

West Bengal: Dog’s photo on ITI entrance admit card

An ITI aspirant was in for a shock when he found a photo of a dog on his admit card. Soumyadip Mahato (18) downloaded the admit card for the ITI entrance exam from the official website to find the dog’s photo on it with his address and other details yesterday.

Mahato, who passed higher secondary examination this year, soon contacted the nodal officer for conducting the examinations in the area and was assured of assistance.

Fresh wave of flood in Assam, two die

A fresh wave of flood hit the northern bank of Brahmaputra in Assam on Monday claiming lives of at least two persons and affecting over 5,500 people in 20 villages.

Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said one person died in Lakhimpur and Sonitpur districts each.

With this, the death toll in this year’s flood in Assam has gone up to five — two in Lakhimpur and one each in Bongaigaon, Baksa and Sonitpur districts.

ASDMA said over 5,500 people are affected as of now in 20 villages across Sonitpur, Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts.

Of them, 4,000 belonged to Lakhimpur.

Eighteen army personnel were killed and 15 seriously wounded on June 4 when a convoy of 6 Dogra Regiment was ambushed by NSCN-K militants in Paraolong village in Chandel district bordering Myanmar.
